YOU’RE A MEAN ONE, MR.BAY

I got an iTouch for Christmas and I’ve spending a lot of time adding songs from my iTunes on to it, which is a great thing to do as we wait for the Mets to sign yet another reliever to go with all the third string catchers they horded away earlier this off season. But nothing sums up the state of the Mets this off season and as what the organization looks like to the outside baseball world than this quote from the Great Gammo via MLBTradeRumors on Jason Bay signing with the Mets:

Gammons quips that Bay would “rather play in Beirut than Queens” and adds that he should have taken Boston’s offer of $60MM over four years back in July.

I think I might use that line on the Mets ticket rep when they come a-callin’ for me to buy a season ticket.

Gotta go I have some Dictators, Chesterfield Kings and Mission of Burma tracks to download!

  1. T.O. needs to call Bay’s agent, and tell him to (in kind words) enjoy re-upping in Boston. I do not want players here, that do not want to play here. That includes backup catchers. I would rather watch my team lose than hear guys say, when they are at that press conference, “It’s where I wanted to be, they drafted me, the negotiations were complicated, and that is what took so long.” I finally asked my wife/girlfriend/housekeeper, where should I play, and when she said, NY, I finally made up my mind.”

If this does not show the powers that be how disfunctional this organization has become under T.O. & Gotti, Jr. then nothing will.

Mr. FRED (Gotti, Sr) Wilpon, as much as I hate those Bill James/SABR guys running basbeall, please, go and get one of them. Go find a guy from the Twins, the Pirates (teams that actually spend money on R&D of players) or even Billy Beane for crying out loud, and get rid of Minaya, and tell your son, the only thing you know about baseball is signing the checks. Which is all he should do. From trying to tbe Dodger lookalikes to the worst run training staff in baseball, enough is enough. CLEAN HOUSE. I realize that you are not going to get rid of your son, nor would anyone say you should, but get a REAL baseball man running your organization, and let him actually run it. Tell Minaya goodbye, and tell your son, to get the heck out of the way…PLEASE, for the sake of all Mets’ fans and the people that care about this team. ENOUGH.

  2. PFH your post is about the tenth millionth that I have read with the same theme. The ONLY way to show Wilpon the door is to not go to the game. Period…that’s it.

  3. Paul, that is happening. They can’t sell a season plan…and Clueless Omar is still employed.

  4. BTW I got the iphone. Amazing what these things can do…enjoy the itouch! There is a cool MLB app that you can download for free. Gives you news…like Mets sign 46 year old catcher to 10 year guaranteed deal…

  6. Paul L,

The Wilpons are not going to sell the team, so the best we can hope for is for the elder to tell the son, get the hell out of the way, and let the baseball people do their job…you just sign the checks. Minaya has turned the team into a joke. They said on MLB network the other day, that the Pirates…that’s right, the Pirates, spent THREE times the money on their draft that the Mets did. Just another joke on we Mets’ fans, who have a clue that the owners don’t. The Mets should never be outspent by the Pirates on ANYTHING!

I wonder where The Corsairs got that money from? Duh……..

  8. James L. Dolan – move over.
The Wilpons now rule the nation in franchise mismanagement.

  9. This is a great sports blog you have here man. It’s a very good read. I have a sports blog myself but I specifically cover the New York Giants. I’ve been a fan all my life and it’s great writing about them. I would like to exchange links with you to help spread some traffic around. It can’t hurt us, it’s a win/win on both sides.

Please let me know if this is possible. Take care and keep up the good work.

Oh, c’mon now. Be fair. It was a 9 year deal with a CLUB OPTION for the 10th year because Omar is shrewd.
