For as bad as the NY Football Giants season has been, yesterday took some of the sting out of the painful failure, as team owner John Mara, stepped up big time by calling out his coaches and players for a lack of mental and physical toughness and lack of effort. WOW, how strong are those words? Sure the cynic in me says, “John Mara needs to sell his Private Seat Licenses, so this is all a business move” but the Mara family have owned this team since it’s inception in 1925 and Giants have been one of the top teams in the NFL this decade and watching and listening to him he looked legitimately pissed off.

The way John Mara handled the day after the season is the way an owner of a team that not only disappoints but embarrasses themselves by quitting, and make no mistake the NY Football Giants quit, should. He stood up like a man and articulated that, yes his team suffered injuries but they were not an excuse for not showing up the last half of the season. He acted swiftly by axing way over his head offensive coordinator Bill Sheridan and put every player and coach on notice that if you don’t or  you can’t give him what he wants, then he will go out and find personnel that will. As a Giants fan, I appreciate Mara’s words and action very much.

Contrast John Mara’s words and actions to the stumbling, fumbling, mumble-oid of an owner like Jeffey Skill Sets who acted mealy mouthed and clueless in his season post-mortem of the season to forget. There is a reason why the Mets brand is laughed at through out baseball and it starts at the top.

Speaking of our favorite baseball team, I brought out my pinstripe uni top for toady’s Bay Day celebration. In fact my co-workers have wished me happy Bay Day when I reported for duty. I’ve become a charity case, as even the Highlander fans have stop teasing me and feel sorry for me. I hate being a charity case or a baby face, I’d rather be a heel.

There are rumors that the Mets could trade Rogers Castillo for Mike Lowell. What would the Bosox want with Rogers Castillo when they have Dustin Pedroia and Marco Scutaro? Lowell would be a nice fit for the Mets, as he’s a respected vet with 2 World Series rings ( as you know I’m a major proponent of bringing in winners to this team)  I just wonder if he can play some 1st base and spell David Wright sat 3rd base.

From reading some of the stories, if Carlos Delgado can stand up straight, the Mets would love to bring him back for a 1 year incentive laden deal. That’s why it seems the Mike Lowell talk is interesting as a platoon of Lowell/ Delgado could be what the Mets are looking at for 1st base in 2010.

The details of the Jason Bay contract are as follows:

$8.5 mil bonus and $6.5 mil salary for 2010

$16mil for the next 3 years + 4th yr option

Full No Trade Clause.

Not a killer contract, now the question is this. I have a MILLEDGE 44 pro uni top. Do I go and have the MILLEDGE taken off and add BAY? Your thoughts please?

Waiting on the Bay presser. I’ll be commenting on Twitter during the presser.

  1. Agree completely on the way the G-Men handled the situation. It was swift and definitive. The Wilpons, however, bring back the biggest moron in the history of the franchise, the man who ruined the big league and minor league clubs. What message did the Mara’s send? Accountability. Sheridan-gone. Mets-Minaya stays. No accountability here. Fuck us over and we’ll smile and let you do it again. Un-fucking-believeable.

You see where we’re headed? Possibly Molina, Delgado, and Castillo in the opening day line-up. Every one of them over 35, with injury histories. And moron says “we need to be young and athletic”. This man may be the dumbest person in sports. Say one thing over and over, and do the opposite over and over. He is incapable of learning from his many mistakes. And, folks, this man is responsible for bringing the team back to respectability.

raise your hand if you’re confident he can. Any hands up?

Its also Jeff wilpon who annoys me just looking at him if I’m an owner of a billion dollar sports franchise I’m making sure that my team is going in the right direction.I’m tired of the mets penny pinching they never go the extra mile to win they do enough to give us hope and put people in the seats if they don’t acquire a frontline starter and def not piniero he’s the next Carlos silva a legit platoon with murphy and either trade or eat castillos contract which I know they won’t then it’s gonna be another frustrating season…

  3. George the Stork says:

Take a read on Joel Sherman’s article in the post yesterday. Interesting. According to him, the Mets aren’t interested in Zambrano — they think his skills have diminished. And we might get a starting pitcher from among the Pineiro, Washburn, Garland crowd, but not until prices go down. Expect Delgado to be back for another year, and don’t hold your breath on Castillo for Lowell.

  4. mikey boy324 says:

and that is why well fall short again where’s the creativity you dont have to be a baseball guru in order to know the mets need a legitinate frontline starter but omar is trying to sell us on pelfrey maine perez but i aint buying it…

  5. kranepool says:

Right on target Rich. How many times do we hear Omar say the team needs to get young and athletic and he goes out and signs the old and crippled. If Delgado agrees to a one year deal you know Omar will bring him into the fold. I love how Omar tells the fans to be paitent that the team will go out and get pitching. That what I told the guy from the Mets ticket office, be paitent because right now I’m keeping my money in my pocket along with a lot of other Mets fans.

  6. kranepool says:

Mikey, If the Skill Sets showed a pair of balls and released Rogers Castillo and ate his contract like the Tigers did with Sheffield I would do such a positive post on the front office that both Jeffey and Omar would need a cigarette after reading it.

  7. kranepool says:

Stork, Omar is waiting for the Blue Light Special to go on to get some pitching. It’s not that I don’t think the plan sucks I just don’t have faith in the executors of the plan

  8. mikey boy324 says:

i just dont understand why.. there a billion dollar franchise they have a great fanbase i mean in 06 shea was sold out every game so its not like if they win where not gonna come to the stadium castillo’s contract should be chump change to them and if they were real fans to have to see the phillies and the yankess win the world series in back to back years they should wanna go all out not sign john garland or piniero who i think will be a hugeeeee bust..i dunno i guess theres nothing we can do but wait and see but from what im hearing were gonna go into the season with garland/piniero delagado and the gimp well be competive but this team isnt going over the top until the wilpons sell the team to a legit owner who wants to win at all costs ie yankees, red sox…

  9. JEFFY?
Not ANYONE’s idea of a Rocket Scientist:
    1st Exhibition Game with Red Sox & Mets Fans called Jeffy “A Moron & a Retard”;
    Jimmy Dolan with NO Personality.
