It’s stupid, idiotic, short-sighted, desperate, mind numbing, ridiculous, insane, moronic, and unconscionable and the sad fact is he might just happen, unless somebody in the front office puts his big boy pants on and stops Gangsta’ Jerry from sacraficing a twenty year old, who most experts project as a top of the line starter, to save his lame duck ass.

From John Sickels Minor League Ball Site:

1) Jenrry Mejia, RHP, Grade B+: He needs to refine his breaking ball and a full year of Double-A/Triple-A is necessary in my view, but he also has number one starter potential. I hope they don’t rush him.

  1. Simply put; the Mets have a better chance of finishing third then they do of making the playoffs. Is sacrificing the development Mejia worth that? Well, Kranepool, I think you left out criminal and selfish.

  2. Eh, I don’t see the great crime here. It used to be very common for young starters to break in via the bullpen and considering the facts that a) the Mets likely would have Meija on an innings limit anyway; and b) young starters on the big-league level tend to get knocked around as a rule.

I also don’t think Jerry has the juice to do this without approval from the front office, so it could be for nought anyhow.

From every scouting report I’ve read and heard Meija has the ability to be a top of the rotation starter also he is just 20 years old if he were 23 or 24 and out of a college program my opinion would be similar to yours. But this kid is still learning how to pitch and the club will do him or the organization no favor by putting him on the express track to the big leagues but also in a tough spot as the 8th inning set up man for K-Rod

Yet another short-sighted, dumb-ass decision by this organization. It gets more difficult to root for these guys all the time.
