LOOKS LIKE MEIJA’S COMING NORTH

And that’s not a good thing. How is it that a 20 year old pitcher of great promise who needs to work on his skills to become a front line pithcher (deep breath to get through the run on sentence of run on sentence) but a 23 yr old slugger, Ike Davis,¬†who has shown to be primed and ready to play in the big leagues doesn’t get a chance?

I’m trying to be as optimistic as possible about the Mets chances in 2010 but I’m having a hrad time talking myself into it.

Hopefully more later, and again thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers

  1. Ike needs time at AAA, maybe not much time, but some time. Bringing Mejia north is clearly about saving Omar and Jerry’s asses. Rooting for this time takes more effort than my job and being a parent combined.

  2. The reason is that Omar is the most incompetent GM in the business. The guy hasn’t a clue. Gets to spend the most money in the NL and cannot put a team together.

  3. Paul, that’s what I’ve said for years. Right on, brother!

  4. whozgotnext says:

Mejia comes north to save their asses? Mejia coming north should be the final straw that gets Omar canned, and asking Omar to do it should get Jerry canned. To even consider screwing this kid up should be a firing offense.

Even if Jerry doesn’t screw him up by overusing him, the lack of innings this year will mean that he’s got to be limited to somewhere around 100 IP next year.

    Ugh.

  5. And you can count on Manuel overusing him…he has no choice, unless the starters start averaging 6+ innings, and really, outside of Santana (and they will underuse him early, witht he line of him coming off of surgery) & Niese (unproven) do you really have confidence in the other three to routinely get into the seventh inning?

  6. And oh, by the way, Jacobs over Carter? No way, Carter could have hit .900 and he had no chance of making this roster. He can’t be a worse fielder than Jacobs, and we already know that Jacobs will strikeout half the time. Even at the AAA you know that Carter, from the Red Sox organization, was not even going to get to AAA without having some sort of plate discipline.

I have full faith in Omar and his staff.

I eagerly await the start of the championship season.

I love our 1st base platoon.

  9. Paul L. says:

@Rich – This is a replay of the Murphy disaster, Every year we have to put our faith in unproven rookies, over the hill veterans and players rehabbing. This season:

We hope Maine perez and Pelphrey pitch well
We hope things work out at 1b
We Cora can play three days in a row
We hope we can live with below grade CFers
We hope Francuer has a good season
We hope we have a bulppen with rubber arms
    We hope Wright hits HRs
We hope Bay will play well in NY Citifield
We hope we have a catcher who can hit .250

    On and on and aon……

  10. Now they’re messing with Tejada and Mejia. Just when you have some prospects…let’s screw them up so they become also-rans. The problem bolis down to having two people in charge (dumb and dumber, we’ll call them) who view scraping together wins in April as job security. They can’t plan for the future, because they know they will likely not be here much longer. So, again I ask, in who’s world did it make sense to bring them back? They have demonstrated an inability to do their jobs, and now we’re adding in lame-duck status, to make a very bad situation worse.

I’ll answer my own question. This makes sense only in the world of the New York Mets.

    Ugh

  11. I’m perturbed by all of the pessimism around here. It’s going to be a big year for us.

I eagerly await the start of the championship season.

Michael I’m just upset that tonight’s game is on ESPN and then the next two are blacked out on NESN on my DirecTV so I’ll be forced to check in on The Old Town Team on YUCK television
