I hate when my goof off time gets interrupted but this weekend it’s worth it as I had two baseball games (both wins!!!) a graduation party and now today my daughter’s dance recital so blogging is taking a back seat today.
I have two hours to relax and watch the Mets today and an added treat, Ralph Kiner is in the telecast.
So taking a break today and I’ll be back in action tomorrow with some good stuff I promise.
Don’t forget to check out my This Call To The Bullpen Shop for This Call To The Bullpen t-shirts, caps, mugs etc.

Ralph still has his fastball.
This is one area where I must differ, Steve. Ralph is a Mets treasure, for sure. Kiner’s Korner, the malaprops, all of it make Ralph special. But he needs to be a memory at this point. This once feared slugger and popular broadcaster is tough to listen to, tells the same old stories, and in my opinion is just a drain on the telecast. We had a family party today and were talking about it. I said I’d want my kid to step up and say, “Dad, it’s time. I don’t want the world to remember you this way”.
I do cringe when he comes on. I don’t want to think this way, but I can’t help it.
Rich, then we will have to agree to disagree, I love listening to the stories, and when he gets talking about the game itself, especially with Darling (pitcher/hitter thing is one of the things that makes Darling/Hernandez great). I love that point/counterpoint. Ralph can still bring it.
Got to say in my view Ralph Kiner can still bring it to the table on the SNY telecast. When Keith was talking abouthis GOld Golves and where he displays them at the end of the discussion he said “Where the awards go when your dead who cares” and then he told Raplh that you know one day I’m gonna die and Ralph said ‘ Your too nasty to to die” I think they hit the cough button so we couldn’y here them laughing in the booth. I still love it that Kiner still holds a grudge against Branch Rickey for stiffing him when he was with the Pirates
