Last night’s Shouts from Shea Podcast, Ed Marcus and me welcomed Joe DeCaro of Metsmerized Online and Danny Abriano of Rising Apple to the show and we’d like to thank Sandy Alderson for signing Bartolo Colon to a 2 year/$20mil deal which just feed another log onto the Hot Stove.

Few observations on the Mets Winter so far:

I guess all the Alderson bashers will have to go back into hibernation after what the GM has accomplished the last couple of weeks. Is this a World Series team? No, not yet but the Mets did what we all hoped they would do but didn’t think they could do, spend money.  A grand total of $87 mil so far and they are not done yet. The front office has shown me so I’m ready to buy my tickets for the season.

It looks more and more like Stephen Drew is next on the Mets list of acquisitions this winter. I’m not high on Drew but it seems the baseball ops folks feel at the right price, Drew would be a guy they want.

To get Drew it looks like Ike Davis is a goner. I feel Ike has to go, for his own good and the Mets as well. It’s sad since Ike looked like a guy who would be a solid Met for 10+ years but it just seems like it’s not going to happen here for him. Add in the fact that he is looking at a big raise to around $5mil you can see why the Mets are looking to move him and put that money to better use.

Same for Daniel Murphy, it seems Alderson would like to deal #28 because (a) he loved to use his salary to fill a need and (b) he wants to see Eric Young Jr get as many AB’s as possible.

So what if the Mets could get Drew on a 3 yr/$30 mil deal and trade off Ike and Murph to use their money to pay year one of Drew’s deal, is it worth it? I think so.

Right now the Mets are not the best team in baseball but they are clearly the best baseball team in NYC.

Ill have to admit the colon signing surprised me I really thought Granderson was gonna be the only significant move after all you never know with sandy speak What he really means. The Granderson move got me in my car the colon move made me drive to the ballpark and buy some tickets If wé can get one more bat ill be in for a weekend package for sure…

  2. DON’T trade Murphy, period!!

  3. I like Murphy, like to see him stick around, but as is said often, Tom Seaver was traded…

  4. If all it takes for you guys to buy tickets is to sign a few aging players, then Fred & Jeff have done their job. Hey, who knows, maybe you”ll have some “Meaningful” July games. As for me, I’ll NEVER forget the way they treated Season and Plan Tickets holders when $iti Field opened and have not been back since.
Except for Santana’s FAKE No-Hitter, tell me what I have missed….

  5. There’s only one way I come back: when I see an 82 on the left side of the win column. The moves are nice on paper and I get why they excite fans, but then again people were excited about Jason Bay too and how’d that work out for us?
