If you have not seen or heard former Patriot and Jets RB Curtis Martin’ acceptance speech last night in Canton, do yourself a a favor a click on the video and watch this very inspirational speech. By the way, what an embarrassment to the NFL HOF voters that Bill Parcells has not been inducted and also Jerry Kramer of the great Lombardi Packers. Disgraceful
It’s been one of those days. I was in every boro of the city except for the Boggie Down Bronx and I’m guessing I may hit the home of the Highlanders, a 5 broro cycle if you will, tomorrow. So I’m just getting in to read e mails and news and also draft my fantasy hockey team so hold on to your hats:
I was asked to write a guest blog at the site 85% Sports. It’s about how the corporate-ization of sporting events have killed the die hard fans influence for the home team and total “at the game” expirence.
The primaries are over. The acceptance speech has been given. Now Howard Megdal has thrown down the gauntlet to Jeffey Skill Sets with this summit letter, putting the Mets owner on notice that the people have spoken and Jeffey owes Howard an interview for the Mets General Managers job. Let’s see if the Skill Sets understand the concept of LOGIC, PASSION and TRANSPARENCY
Oh yeah, by the way, the Mets GM job is wide open as it’s as good as a lead pipe cinch that Omar Minaya will be stripped of his GM duties. Guess what I bet, Jerry Manuel gets fired at season’s end too. DUH!!!
The fans have spoken and the man they want to run the baseball operations for the New York Mets is Howard Megdal. Howard’s message of LOGIC, TRANSPARENCY AND PASSION has stuck a cord in the heart of Mets fans. All three facets of Howard’s campaign is the bedrock of what being a Mets fan is all about.
Tomorrow evening at 6:15PM Howard will accept the Mets fans nomination for GM with an acceptance speech at Citi Field, Parking Lot E. After the speech, Howard will present his impressive resume to Jeff and Fred Wilpon and hopefully they will realize that there is only one man to lead this organization out of the malaise it is in that has injured the heart and soul of every Mets fan and that man is Howard Megdal.
Here is the press release detailing Howard’s primary sweep and I would like to thank the readers of The Eddie Kranepool Society for voting 82 % in favor of Megdal to be the next General Manager of the New York Mets.
After receiving thousands of votes over the course of 18 grueling primaries at blogs dedicated to the Mets around the Internet, Howard Megdal will graciously accept the nomination of New York Mets fans to be the next General Manager at 6:15 PM Thursday night in Parking Lot E at Citi Field.
Megdal won every primary he entered, with a vote share of 65 percent or greater in 17 of the 18 contests, and averaged a vote share of greater than 74 percent. Considering that Metsblog currently rates the fan confidence rating in the team at 9 percent, there can be no greater sign that Fred and Jeff Wilpon are listening to the wishes of the fans than by making Howard Megdal the next General Manager of the New York Mets.
“I have been honored and humbled to be chosen by so many fans, motivated by my pillars of LOGIC, TRANSPARENCY and PASSION as guideposts for this baseball team’s future in 2011 and beyond,” Megdal said. “I look forward to speaking with the Wilpons, earning the job that so many fans want me to have, and drying forever my daughter’s baseball-related tears.”
After Megdal concludes his speech detailing his vision for the future of the New York Mets, he will submit his resume to Fred and Jeff Wilpon. T-shirts will be available, and Megdal will answer questions from the press or fans before doing what he loves most—going to watch a Mets game with his wife and daughter.

He has lived and loved the Mets since he was six years old. When he was 13 years old, his school Principal forced Megdal to spend the day in his office, since the school had declared Phillies Hat Day, and he refused to remove his Starter pinstriped Mets cap. Had he agreed to remove the Mets hat, he would have been set free. But that was too high a price to pay.

First the Giants spit the bit, then this morning the 6:40 AM Staten Island Ferry was canceled so my usual Monday morning foul mood is intensified today. The Giants better hope that the new stadium they are building has some kind of wind baffle built in it because for all his heroics, Eli Manning turns into Tim Wakefield when the wind gets to 20 mph or more. Oh and thank you Plaxico Buress for letting down your teammates, fans and the whole Giants organization for your stupidity. Next time you want to shoot yourself, aim the gun a little fucking higher.

I’ll be rooting hard for the Cardinals on Sunday especially for my favorite Irish-American wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Count me as a huge Joe Posnanski fan. On his blog he has a great post on Adam Dunn and Willie Bloomquist.   I wanted Bloomquist on the Mets but he signed with the Royals where he will get a lot of playing time but Posnanski shows the difference between Dunn fans and Bloomquist fans and his analysis is right on the money I am most definitely a BLOOMQUIST FAN.

Today is Hall of Fame day and the one guy we know for sure who is getting in is Rickey Henderson and the reason there is an MLB Network is just for Rickey’s acceptance speech which I have no doubt will be right there with FDR and JFK Inaugural speeches in fact I would love for Rickey to write Barrack Obama’ speech for his inauguration:

Rickey is a no brainer. Blyleven was a strike out machine and I also feel that longevity in the game is a plus and not a detriment (or as Mike Francesa would say “he’s a compylah†to me that’s not a knock) The thing with Rice, when you look at straight numbers you could make a case that Dewey Evans was as good as Rice but I always remember that Rice was feared by the opposition but I don’t remember Evans in that way. Rock Raines was the total package of hitting/speed/defense.   Â

On the same subject, Mike Silva had Darren Viola (a/k/Repoz) of BBTF fame on his NY Baseball Digest show last night, discussing the HOF ballot for this year. First Mickey Rouke on Letterman and now Repoz on with Silva W-O-W!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is best interview/guest pairing sense Joe Franklin and Dee Dee Ramone!

I don’t know if this is old news or not but the Mets are intreseted in Derek Lowe and or Oliver Perez. In fact the Mets are hoping Lowe PAYS the Mets for the right to play for them.
