WRIGHT TO ANGELS HAS MY INTEREST

I haven’t had time to post either yesterday or today so before I head out the door for a full day of football and the evening at MSG for Rangers-Jets, let me just make a quick comment on Joel Sherman’s story on the Mets talking about dealing David Wright to the Angels for Peter Bourjos and one or two pitching prospects.

If Sandy Alderson can pull that deal off it’s a steal for the Mets. Again, again, again this is NOT an anti-Wright sentiment it’s just the realization that Jose Reyes isn’t coming back and this organization is in need of a through rebuilding program and Alderson seems the feel that way as well.

Oh and don’t think that the quotes from a “Mets front office person” is a leak, it’s more of a well placed mole getting the front offices’ message out without getting dirty.

SIGN THE GET WELL CARD FOR GARY CARTER TONIGHT AT CITI FIELD

This card will be in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda tonight before the Mets-Angels game. It will be signed first by the Mets players and broadcasters then fans will be able to send their best wishes to the Kid. When the card is full of names and well wishes, the Mets will send it off to Gary Carter as he battles with brain cancer.

SOMETIMES IT SUCKS TO BE RIGHT (NOT WRIGHT)

We kinda knew that Omar Minaya fancied Joel Pinerio but Jeffey Skill Sets was dead set on not paying market value. This revelation comes from John Harper’ story in today’s Daily News:

So what happened? That’s what Pineiro would like to know. It seems clearer than ever from reading his version of events, that Mets ownership simply wouldn’t let Minaya spend the money it took – two years, $16 million – for the Angels to get a deal done.

Even worse, Minaya operative, Alex Cora, told his neighbor Pineiro that his signing  with the Mets was a done deal until ownership did the old double cross:

Pineiro said in November he considered the Mets to be “the front-runners” to sign him. Much of that feeling was based on what he was hearing from his friend and neighbor in Miami, Alex Cora, that the Mets had every intention of signing him.

Considering that Cora has a strong relationship with Minaya, suffice to say it was solid information.

“Alex was telling me (it was going to happen),” Pineiro said Wednesday. “I was like, ‘all right, I’m just waiting for that good thing to happen, and I’m ready to go.’

“But it never came.”

The Mets offer was 2yr/$15mil and the Angels came in at 2yr/$16mil. At that point Jeffey Skill Sets folded and walked away. I’ll let you insert your favorite expletive here.

I hope the folks of Buffalo NY appreciate the gift us “Downstater’s” have given them with Ike Davis and Chris Carter in the Bison everyday line up. Mike Jacobs and Fernando Tatis over Ike Davis and Chris Carter. Even Vince McMahon couldn’t make that story line fly.

If Jerry Manuel wants to bat Jose Reyes in the 3 spot in the lineup go right ahead but if he better not mess with Mike Jacobs in that cleanup spot. Pardon me I need to lie down.

METS ACQUIRE GARY MATHEWS JR

according to Jon Heyman, the Mets have traded for Gary Mathews Jr. Still waiting to hear who the Mets gave up, but if it’s more than two Shake Shack burgers then we wuz robbed.

Listening to Jon Heyman on WFAN he says the Angels will pick up close to $20 mil of the $23 mil owed to Mathews but Luis Castillo is NOT part of the deal.

The only thing that sucks more than Mathews Jr coming here is that Castillo is not going to Anaheim.

Much a fucking do about nothing.

HEY BIG SPENDER, SPEND A LITTLE DIME ON SOME DRAFT PICKS

The Skill Sets went over the slot to sign LHP Steve Matz. YOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAYYYYYY

The Skill Sets spent the least amount of money on this years draft picks. UUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

If that doesn’t some up the Skill Sets Era it’s those two sentences. Just when you think their potty trained, they shit their pants.

An excellent post on the state of the Mets minors and the lack of aggressiveness can be found here at Productive Outs and Cracker Jacks.

Our only hope is, from all accounts, John Ricco is a sharp dude, maybe he can get through to Jeffey that the draft and farm system are the life blood of a sports organization. Maybe he could put together a flash card presentation showing how the  Rays or the Angels have built pennant contenders.

Or better yet, if Ricco can pursued Jeffey to do what he does best and cash his pay check from his daddy’s real esate business the better for the world of Blue and Orange
