FOR WHOM THE PEN TOLLS, IT TOLLS FOR THE METS

These late inning collapses are wearing me out, and I’m sure the manager and players feel the same way. So how do the Mets stop this rash of late inning chokes? Beat’s the shit out of me.  Is Pedro Beato feeling the effects of the tendonitis in his right bicep that landed him on the DL? Is Izzy feeling the fatigue from back to back appearances? Is Dale Thayer feeling the effects of being Dale Thayer? What’s a manager to do? Maybe TC can go with Bobby Parnell and Manny Acosta a bit more but really so far this season it doesn’t matter who is in that bullpen, after a solid start the back end of the pen has become a problem and moving the pieces around isn’t solving anything.

Jason Bay sounds like a guy who has given up. After reading these quotes it seems he asking Terry Collins to take him out of the everyday lineup:

The underachieving Mets left fielder has been around long enough to realize every manager has a breaking point. Bay knows he needs to start hitting — or prepare for the possibility he will relinquish his everyday spot in the Mets’ lineup.

“That’s the reality of the situation we’re in,” Bay told The Post. “I’m not going to sit here and tell you that is not an option. I’m pretty aware of what’s going on.”

“It’s a results business, and this is a place where team-wise you need to win and you need to perform,” Bay said. “Regardless of who you are, you get enough chances and it’s like ‘OK, let’s go [in a different direction].’ That’s out of my control.”

Watching Bay’s AB’s last night you can see he has absolutely no confidence in himself as a hitter. In the 4th inning he was HBP in his knee and never made an attempt to get out of the balls way. I guess he felt taking one for the team was the least he could do. In the 6th, after getting ahead 2-0, Bay missed on two fastballs, fouling them off. He then took another ball to get the count to 3-2. He fouled off another pitch he was late on and then took a called third strike. As the ump called strike three, Bay just looked at him calmly and asked where it was, the ump told him and Bay just shrugged his shoulders, got his glove and went to LF. It’s time for an intervention, either platoon Bay or talk to him and his agent about going to Buffalo or St Lonesome to work out his problems at the plate. He will not be released and he has zero trade value so this would be the best thing for the team and for Bay. Lucas Duda is ripping up Triple A pitching, he deserves a shot at the LF job.

SHORT AND SWEET

Outstanding job by Chris Capuano last night with his only flaw the three run home run he gave up to Espinosa in the second inning. 8K’s and 1 BB in 6 innings pitched with a 71/26 spilt of strikes to balls is as good as it gets.

Carlos Beltran just can win with some folks. Instead of celebrating the fact he hit 2 home runs and is looking very comfortable at the plate, there will be critics who will bash him for the off day today and those in the media saying he will be excellent trade bait. I love to see some of the critics wear a knee brace all day and say they feel great.

Ike-Ike Baby, Vanilla Ike, Ike-nstein whatever you want to call him add big time in front of that. So far so good on no sophomore jinx.

Alderson has a big decision to make as it pertains to the bullpen. Izzy is ready and able to go at the big league level, so the Mets need to decide who is cut to make room for Izzy. Tell you the truth, with the way the starting pitching has not giving many innings, I’d demote Lucas Duda, since Collins is in love with Willie Harris and Duda is rotting on the bench and buy some time with an 8 man pen until Jason Bay comes back. By that time Alderson, Collins and Warthen might have a better idea on who to keep.

Chris Young on the mound today so if Mets take this game and series that will be two out of three series the Mets have won. Take that haters.

R.I.P. BOB FELLER

Bob Feller passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Of course we all know that Feller was one of the greatest players to ever pitch a baseball, and if you didn’t,  don’t worry he’d tell you. The man lived a full life as a baseball player and a baseball entrepreneur, selling what else but Bob Feller.

What does sadden me about Feller’s death is he is one of the last of his greatest generation, who put down their bats, balls and gloves to do something much nobler, volunteering to serve his country by joining the military during war time. No two words get thrown around so cavalierly in sports like “hero” and “Warrior” for athletes who really do nothing but compete in an athletic completion, which cheapen those words. Bob Feller was a hero and a Warrior and he earned both those descriptions the hard way.

As usual Joe Posanaski has all the right words about Bob Feller, so take some time out today and read this post by Joe Pos.

AND THE SECOND HALF BEGINS………

One good thing out here in the wilderness is my little portable radio picks up WFAN so I’m looking forward to listening to Mets-Giants tonight.

As I’ve said computer time is at a premium here so I had to send up up a plate of Ziti w/meatballs to office manager in order to get som time to crusie the internet. I’m telling this camp is combonation prison/military life.  I’m exhausted from shmoozing the counselors for ice and toliet paper too big ticket items around here.

The head of the camp is from South Philly and I’m enjoying breaking his balls most days. The councilers ears are hurting from the back and forth of one guy with a heavy South Philly accent and myself and my Brooklynese. We make this act on the road.

I can’t believe there is even a discussion about Angel Pagan playing everyday over Frenchy. Just shows what a nice smile can do for some guys.

Gotta go my cheesesatke eating buddy is back, time to annoy him

“PLACE YA BETS, NO MORE BETS”

The Mets front office is trying to put a happy face on this team of theirs but deep down I’m sure they’re doing shots of Maalox over the pitching staff.

Big Pelf’ Long Balls on Parade has to be alarming to Mets decision makers so much so that the name Bronson Arroyo has come up again as a Mets trade target. A deal for Arroyo or any real life honest to goodness starting pitcher should have been done this off season but either money issued or stupidity prevented any such deal from happening.

The old saw is “don’t put too much stock in spring training” and that’s fine when your names is Santana, or Lincicum or Seaver. But when you are a struggling starter like Big Pelf, OP and Maine Man, you need to show me why I should have confidence in you on the mound and so far as we get to a week before opening day my confidence in this pitching staff on a scale of 1-10 is about a 3.

Am I being overly pessimistic? You tell me. Let’s play the Mike Francesa Approved “Unnda/Ovah Game with the pitching staff. Please go to the comments and leave your picks.

Number of games Johan Santana will win in 2010? Unnda/Ovah 14

Number of wins combined for Big Pelf/OP/Maine Man? Unnda/Ovah 27

Number of innings combined for Big Pelf/OP/Maine Man? Unnda/Ovah 450

Number of different starting pitchers the Mets will use in 2010? Unnda/Ovah 8

Number of appearances by Vitamin Pedro in 2010? Unnda?Ovah 75

Number of saves for Frankie Rodz in 2010? Unnda/Ovah 33

Number of pitchers total used by the Mets in 2010? Unnda/Ovah 21

DWIGHT GOODEN ARRESTED FOR DWI

After reading about Dwight Gooden getting arrested for DWI, I can now say I’m done with him.

With all the screaming a yelling over steroid and HGH use, I wish all that anger went against people who drive drunk. Think about what is worse, taking something to hit a ball a bit further or to revive your muscular system, or driving a car drunk where you can kill innocent people and yourself ? According to the police report Gooden had a child in the car. UN-FUCKING-REAL.

Looks like fans, the Mets, the Highlanders, and the Newark Bears need to stop being his enablers. Every time he runs afoul with the law, he gets help by one of those teams I mentioned and adulation from both fan bases in NYC.

If these charges are true and he’s convicted, I hope the judge has the balls to throw his ass in jail and then I want the Used Car Salesman to ban him from baseball.

UPDATE: I thought Gooden was drunk but it was high on drugs just as bad THROW THE BOOK AT HIM You want to get high? You want get shit faced? STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANYONE WATCH THE GAME LAST NIGHT?

Are you guys staying up late to watch our hero’s on the Left Coast? I see that L-Hern had nothing last night but a batting practice fastball and we now have A-Hern back could L-Millz be far behind for a Back to the Future retro ?

Congrats to Big Pelf on becoming a first time Daddy.

It seems I’ve hit a nerve with some readers on calling out D-Wright for not charging the mound after Brad Thompson whizzed a pitch at his head, and I will say that I am stunned that some of you guys think he did the right thing by not going after Thompson. All I can tell you pacifists is the Mets have a rep around baseball as a bunch of pussies who when they are challenged never step up not just to fight but when times get tough they wilt like flowers in a rain storm. Thing will never change until the team grows some balls and if you think that is neanderthal thinking well it is and I don’t apologize for that and if you don’t like it then kiss my hairy cave man ass.

Thank God for the New York Fottball Giants to take my mind off this awful Mets season

……AND ANOTHER THING (OR TWO OR THREE)….

I

should be working but a few things have caught my eye:

See ya Rocky Cherry too bad you didn’t make the final 25 I would have loved to here you come into a game with WARRANT’ “Cherry Pie” blaring on the $iti Field speakers

Ollie Perez is back in camp after getting his tits lit while pitching for Mexico in the World Bullshit Baseball Classic and thank you Vinny Castillia for letting OP throw 85 fucking pitches in his last start. You know what I shouldn’t blame Castilla in fact I apologize to Castilla instead thank you Omar and you clueless Skill Sets for  not telling MLB to fuck off and for not having the balls to tell your players NO WAY ARE YOU PLAYING IN THAT BULLSHIT TOURNEMENT. Add in OP’s 85 pitches, Frankie Rodriguez throwing 4 out saves, David Wright getting kicked in the head and J.J. Putz throwing likes it’s the middle of a pennant race ENOUGH ALLREADY!!!!!!!!!!!

I will never ever understand why people enjoy sleeping outside a venue to buy tickets when you can go online order your tickets and print them out without even wearing clothes. I put this in the same category as tailgating at a sporting event. What’s the fucking point?

Now that my blood is pumping all I need is for someone to wish me a Happy St “Paddy’s” Day so I can put a foot in their ass.

“OH THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL, BUT THE BASEBALL TALK WILL BE DELIGHTFUL TONIGHT ON PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL”

Forget the bone chilling cold and the snow and the general suckiness of winter, it’s just 39 days until pitcher and catchers report to spring training and it’s Thursday so you know what that means kids “it’s PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL night” and we finally have some hot topics to discuss whether it’s Derek Lowe to the Braves and which way the Mets turn to fill their starting rotation. Is Omar a genius or is getting schooled by Scott Boras? Is Manny to the Mets really dead or is there some hope of it happening? What spots on the Mets 25 man roster are up for grabs come spring time in St Lonesome?  How much more money can the Steinbrenner Crime Family shake out the public coffers for their pleasure palace and how about the humongous set of balls attached to Rand Levine’ three piece set?

These are just some of the questions I hope to answer along with your help so tune in and join in by calling our call in line (646) 595-4462 on Blog Talk Radio at 9PM EST tonight.
