Could my wish of Bobby Jenks closing for the Mets come to frutition? According to John Perrotto at Baseball Prospectus the rumor mill is stoked with the Mets sending Fernando Martinez plus to the South Side of Chicago for Jermaine Dye and Jenks plus maybe a few other pieces.  This deal is so good it can’t be real. Jenks will be 28 next season and is battled tested in post season play with a World Series ring to boot. Dye is the strong right handed bat we have been desperate for in the outfield. It also frees up trading Ryan Church for more pitching and puts Fernando Tatis in the super sub role and Dan Murphy the everyday LF’er.

Greeting from the Catskill Mountains. Some how I got talked in to going up to hither lands for Thanksgiving Weekend and as I look out the big picture window of the lobby where it sure looks like winter and while my wife and kids go horseback riding( the last time I was on a horse was when my mother was putting dimes in the ride outside of Woolworth’s on 5 Ave in Bay Ridge) so while I have idle time I’ve read some stories on the direction the Mets are going for a closer and all I can say is I hope Omar is not the guide on the trial my family is riding on because I may never see them again.

I’m a bit cloudy on just what Omar’s strategy is when it comes to the pen. He doesn’t want to spend a lot of the Skill Sets dough on a K-Rod or Brian Fuentes and he could take out a patch up approach with Kerry Wood or Trevor Hoffman. He may trade for Bobby Jenks or Houston Street or he may just hand the job to Bobby Parnell and or Eddie Kunz. What Omar has become is the Johnny Rodz of baseball (old time wrestling fans remember The Unpredictable Johnny Rodz)

Hopefully this bullpen riddle will be clearer starting next week when the Winter Meetings kick off in Vegas.

As soon as that first snowflake fly’s I’m heading back to civilization

The Den of Thieves (A/K/A NYC City Council) votes today on the re-development of Willets Point so lets see if rats and chop shops win over jobs, housing and progress.

D-Wright says he will bang the Mets tom-tom for the franchise to any free agent looking to join the club. D-Wright is a true blue Met but I get a bit queasy when you have to recruit guys to join your team especially when you are a NYC team. The Mets will have no shortage of sutiors some with real interest in join the team others who are looking to up their ante with other clubs, and one of Omar Minaya’s strong suits is his street smarts to know how to separate the phonies from the players who have a real interest in being Mets.

The closer contest looks to be very interesting as the Mets will start there it seems on the road to revamp the ballclub. It looks like the shopping list will go in order,  closer/relievers,  starting pitchers (2),  catcher, outfield bat.

Newsday states that the Mets are now looking at Bobby Jenks. My consultants check is in the mail I hope.

Jake Peavy to the Braves looks like a done deal and that puts a little extra pressure on the Mets to strengthen the pitching staff and it also helps CC Sabathia get even more of the Steinbrenner millions.

Hops Weiss has a very good column on the state of college basketball here in the NYC area.  None of the area Divsion I teams are predicted to do much this season or be a factor come tournament time. Wiess lays out how college hoops used to be when St Johns ruled the roost.

Joel Sherman at the NY Post thinks it would a good idea if the Mets hooked up with the White Sox in a deal for closer Bobby Jenks. Yes that is the same Bobby Jenks I called on Omar to pursue about three weeks ago. I give Sherman credit for putting this out on a Wednesday when that’s my day to take care of things around the house so blogging takes a back seat with me. Also Joel if you need ideas for your column just e mail me and we can work out a payment schedule like stand up comics do for jokes from other comics even though I just some dumb ass blogger (not in my basement today but in my dining room and I’m full dressed as I post this). You might as well take my trade scenario the whole way and throw AJ Pierzynski in the deal as well.

I’ll let this one go for free but if you steal my Matt Capps/John Grabow deal then I’m taking you in front of the hottest judge on TV for justice.

http://www.kranepoolsociety.com/2008/11/12/gee-i-wish-i-thought-of-that-wait-a-minute-i-did/

Very late with my post today as I’m in some serious need of motivation.  It’s a Carlos Delgado playing for Willie Randolph kind of day for a few reasons.

The A/C in the building has been shut so with the warm weather it is hot as hell in this office today so it’s hot and stuffy kind of like all of Highlander Nation .

Knowing that the Phelatios are a game away from the World Series on the power of one of my favorite players, Professional Hitter Mat Stairs makes it even worse. Then you have the Little Hawaiian Punch Victorino in his Little League batting helmet and grass skirt making big play after big play and acting like he doesn’t need that winter job of his anymore. (EDIT: I got rethink my opinion of Stairs as he “likes to have his ass pounded WOHA NELLY, I guess he’s seen Victorino do the hula in the shower)

A little vindication for Pack A Day Hank as St Joseph of Torre the patron saint of tea drinkers decided that Derek Lowe was done after 73 pitches and turned the game over to relievers as green as plantains.

Looks like Papi ain’t so Big without Manny around? Tell me that a lineup with Beltran in the 2 spot, Manny in the 3, Delgado 4 Wright 5 Church 6 with Reyes on top wouldn’t make the NL shit itself silly?

The more a look at it the more it seems if K-Rod wants to be a Met it will be under the Mets terms and not his. I think Omar would rather go with lower level free agents like Juan Cruz, Jeremy Affeldt as bridge guys  and a closer/8th inning guy like Brain Fuentes but I would like for Omar to explore a deal with the White Sox for Bobby Jenks and of course, AJ Pierzynski.

I’ve got to agree with Mike Silva, it sounds like Joe Bad Bing Benigno and Mike All Mighty Francesa sound like a match made in radio heaven. If WFAN would pair Francesa and Benigino in the afternoon then they should put the team of Curly Carlin and Kim Jones on at 10 to 1 and make Evan Roberts a utility host.

An other reason for lackadaisical day is my sadness over the death of NY Rangers prospect Alexei Cherpanov. For the non-hockey fan, Cherpanov is the Ranges equivalent of Fernando Martinez and from although the reports out of Russia are very very spotty it leaves one to wonder if an ambulance and or a difibulator were at the rink this tragedy could have been avoided.

I think someone else like guys pounding on his ass as well
