IT COULD BE WORSE, WE COULD BE RED SOX FANS

First thing I read this morning pissed me off to the point I had to fire off an angry Tweet to the author, Rob Parker of ESPNNY.com. See when you lack the creativity gene, you end up writing shit like this. What the Mets have to do with the current mess on Yawkey Way is more than puzzling, in fact even with all the happy horseshit going on in Flushing, the Mets are in much better shape than the Old Town Team.

Speaking of that piece in the Boston Globe yesterday, the worst part of the story wasn’t that the team disintegrated down the stretch to where the majority of the players flat out quit, the worst part was the ownership taking personal pot shots at Terry Francona and the admitting that they had no idea how bad the situation was with the club. The attacks on Francona were as vile as could be bringing up his marital problems and use of pain killers for his destroyed knees, but to bring up the fact that Francona was concerned about his son and son in law, stationed in Afghanistan as a reason he wasn’t focused on his job, just showed the lack of class that trio possesses.

As angry as I was this morning, when I clicked on Metstradamus to check on todays, Hall of Hate matchup between the #1 seed The Wilpons vs. play in winner Matt Cain, I was greeted by one of the great paragraph’s I’ve seen on any Mets blog in a long, long time:

Oh, come on. I really gotta explain it to you? If I have to explain to you why you should hate Mets owner Fred Wilpon and his son Kim Kardashian, then this is obviously your first visit to any Mets blog, ever. This is the Wilpons’ first appearance on the hate list vote and they debut as a one seed. Honestly, the Wilpons can hang out in the clubhouse eating chicken, drinking beer, and playing MLB The Show on Playstation, and win this vote by a hefty margin.

O-o-o-o-o MY GOD!!!!!! Fred Wilpon and his son Kim Kardashian,O-o-o-o My God!!!!!! My side still hurts from that one,

Great news today on Gary Carter’s health Keep Fighting Kid.

The Cleveland Indians are trying to figure out what to do with centerfielder Grady Sizemore and RHP Fausto Carmona as both have expensive option up coming. Sizemore has been racked with injuries the last three seasons and last week underwent knee surgery, has a club option for $9mil that will not be picked up but the $500K buyout most likely will. I would take a flyer on Sizemore if I were the Mets and sign him to an incentive laden deal along with signing David DeJesus to patrol centerfield for the club. As for Carmona, he’s a Mike Pelfrey clone so that would be a NO!

The Pirates are in the same boat with LHP Paul Maholm who the Bucs owe $9.75M but have $750K buyout. Maholm would look nice in a Mets uni but is the price prohibitive?

SEPARATING FACT FROM FICTION

Talk about your information over load, It’s tough to keep up with every rumor and innuendo coming out of Orlando , it’s like when my kids came back from trick or treating on Halloween. They dump their bag of candy on the table and separate all the good stuff (Kit Kats, Peanut M & M, and Butterfingers) from the crap (some dolt gave my kids Trail Mix and Granola Bars who eats that shit?) that’s how I look at the communiqués coming from the meetings.

The Carlos Beltran trade rumors are the most fun.  It’s clear that Sandy Alderson would love to deal Beltran but he’s not going to give him away, not even for 50 cents on the dollar. I love this quote from Nick Cafaro of the Boston Globe (via Mets Blog) on the Red Sox interest in Beltran:

“?The Sox like the right side of Beltran’s switch-hitting bat and feel he could play left field … ?If the Mets can eat a little more than half of his salary and don’t ask for too much in return, it’s a deal that could get done.”

Does Sandy Alderson look wicked stupid to you?  Sure the Mets will send Beltran to the Sawx along with $12 mil for a case of Sam Adams Winter Lager and play date for Wally and Mr. Met. You hear the names Dice-K and Marco Scutaro thrown in the trade banter but that’s $31 mil in salary coming back to the Mets , where the plan is take on LESS money. Plus the fact that Dice-K sucks and is a prima donna and Scutaro, while once the Mets bloggers darling, would be regulated to utility infielder. The only way a deal like this makes sense is if the Sawx take our other two un-adoptable’s OP and Castillo. In that case, you can keep the beer.

Alderson said he’d bring back a couple of players from the meetings and he delivered as promised in the form of reliever D.J. Carrasco and catcher Rony Paulino. Not a big purchase but two serviceable pieces to fill two holes on the team. These signings are similar to going to an auto parts store and buying spark plugs and a fan belt for your car, not a big time purchase but two parts you need to keep the engine running.

By the way, Paulino will have to sit out the first eight games of the season due t o testing positive for banned substance. Paulino is using the defense that he ingested a diet supplement and didn’t know it contained something on MLB banned list. This defense has become the baseball version of “But you honor, she swore to me that she was 18”.

The Skill Sets are in a bit of a jam as they made some money off the Bernie Madoff scheme and now the retirees of Sterling Equities want part of the dough. From the looks of things, Freddy and Uncle Saul want this to go away and will try to settle out of court with the defendants. Smart move as who knows what could come out at a court hearing.

Tip of the Mets cap to Brooklyn Mets Fan for this under the radar news that strength coach Rick Slate has been fired. A long overdue firing at that.

While some are getting their Fruit of the Looms in a bunch over the lack of player movement by the Mets, the important parts of the plan are taking shape in form of hiring Chad MacDonald as amateur scouting director and Dick Scott as minor league field coordinator (Terry Collins old job) who will work with J.P. Riccardi in rebuilding the Mets famr system. This, my fellow Mets fans is the BIG picture.

No one in this town did more to hurt their reputation than Derek Jeter did yesterday at his ridiculous press conference. Jeter came off as whinny little over pampered brat.  There is no one on the Highlanders who misses St. Joseph of Torre more that Jeter as there is no one in the organization that will fawn over him and tell him his shit smells fresh cut grass, like St Joe did. The fact that Pee Wee Cashman told Jeter to take your flabby ass and saggy tities out on the street and see what you get was downright Gangsta’ . Oh yeah by way Jeets, A-Rod’s Better HA! HA!

THE REVOLUTION WILL BE TELEVISED ON YOU TUBE OF COURSE

I love the internet. I love that I can read about any subject I want just by going to a search engine and type it in a little box and have a screen tell me there are 1,345, 756 results of my search. As a kid whenever I went into Manhattan my favorite destination was the out of town newsstand on 42 St. My father went there to get “news from home” in the form of the Sligo Champion and all I wanted was the Boston Globe especially the Sunday Globe which was better than any sports related publication on the planet back in the day.

My summer nights centered around waiting the delivery of the Night Owl edition of the NY Daily News that got to the candy store we hung out in around 8PM and everyone lined up to get the “Brooklyn number “-the last three digits of the Aqueduct or Belmont Park handle-and to sip a Manhattan Special and read the sports news of the day.

My source for breaking news was the afternoon NY Post. Yes, the Post used to be an afternoon paper and I loved it because it had West Coast boxscores which were like the holy grail of baseball stories. “How did Seaver do last night in LA”? “How many hits did Milner get “? “ Torre hit into two DP’s again, he sucks” all this went on 12 hours or so after the action took place.

Where am I going with this? The big media news today is The Rocky Mountain will fold today as soon as it gets its editions on the street and I’m sad that the paper is folding and people are losing their jobs but still I’m awed by the technological revolution that is progressing before our eyes. Now most of this astonishment is due to my age (Fitty going on Fitty One ) and also that my soon to be 96 year old mother shops online and checks out my Facebook page (she doesn’t like my profile pic of me and Madonna’ Madam Tuesaue wax figure) and chats with relatives in Ireland (she has checked out this blog put doesn’t care much for my colorful language and has made it known I’m not so grown that she can’t discipline me to which I told here we could make a big splash on the 6 O’clock News as 50 year old reports mom to Child Services)

I love this post by Joe Posanaski who conveys my sentiments of newspapers much better than I ever could. I still buy the Daily News and Post at the ferry terminal while on the way to work out of habit and I get the NY Times and Staten Island Advance delivered to my house which seems now like getting an ice or coal delivery, but I barely read the hard copy papers. As soon as I get to work I sign on my computer and go to my Google Reader for my news of the day and my Daily News becomes a placemat for my cereal bowl and coffee cup.

Sure it’s sad when a paper goes under because it’s another part of life’s little pleasures that’s gone but then again when I can sit on my patio on a beautiful summer morning and through the technology of my FiOS router read baseball boxscores from the West Coast on my laptop without my fingers getting news print on them, then that’s what I call progress.

TAKE THE D TO $ITI FIELD?

Hey, get out of that tincan you call a car
‘Coz that old thing wont get you far
Don’t take a bus and don’t grab a cab
‘Coz I got a thing that’ll drive you mad

Come on ride my train
Come on ride my train

I’m waiting for a program on my computer to get fixed so I can get some work done so while I was waiting I was looking at some interesting articles from yesterday and this morning. The most interesting piece I found was Nick Cafardo’ from yesterday’s Boston Globe which talked about MLB GM’s doing a “Swap Meet” where you sell your junk for some other guys junk or as they say “One man’s trash is another one’s treasure”

When I look over the list one name made me stare at it for a long time, Dontrelle Willis. As I stared I saw a guy who is way down on his luck and has been God-awful the last two seasons but if you can get him right, you have a workhorse and a guy with a World Series ring and he can hit a lick as well. I bet returning to the NL East and to city with the baseball passion of NYC could be the elixir the D-Train needs to get back on track.

Willis would be up for trade not just due to poor performance but the big nut that comes with him. At the Skill Sets Pleasure Palace the side walks are line with money (thanks to all of you who bought bricks) and taking in bad contracts is our specialty. But not only would I take the D-Train bad contract and bad pitching as well but I’d make this a mega deal and grab Magglio Ordonez too.

D-Train has $22 mil left on the last two years of his contact. Ordonez has $18mil owed him for 2009 with a $15 mil club option for 2010 and $15 mil in 2011.

So now the Tigers would have to take “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s Just My Very Overpaid Second Baseman” Gimp Castillo (even though they have  Placido Polanco Hey, let’s put Polanco in the deal as well and really take over WFAN with 24/7 Mets calls!!!!!) then I’d put Ryan Church and Brian Schneider in the deal (no this is not some still pent up anger or the Milledege deal. Okay maybe a little bit) and a B-Level bush leaguer. Maybe even get Brandon Inge in the package as a just to make Mike Francesa cry.
