Traid Ike ??????

If you are in the Financial district of Manhattan today head on over to the Citi Bank branch at 120 Broadway where you can meet Mets great Mookie Wilson. Mookie will be meeting and greeting Mets fans and signing autographs from 12 Noon to 1:30 Pm at the Citi Bank Branch.

One thing you can say about Mets fans, they are damn entertaining. They bitch and moan about the suckitude of the team but when a player is mentioned as trade bait they filp out. The latest outrage is now word that the club will explore moving Ike Davis in the off season. The reaction from the lunatic fringe of Mets fans was predictable.

Adam Rubin in his post on ESPN.com wrote that the Mets are playing Lucas Duda at 1st base against lefties because they are looking at using Davis as trade bait to fill one of the numerous holes this team has. Nothing wrong with that. Rubin then mentions that the organization is not happy with Davis’ stubbornness in taking direction from the coaching staff and his nocturnal habits.  Davis’ pig headedness when it comes to listening to coaching direction is not a new murmur, the night time high life is.

Davis has battled a lot of adversity the last two seasons, between his ankle injury costing him a season and his bout with Valley Fever and his awful first half of 2012 season to his credit Davis has bounced back in the second half to the point that he could be a valuable trade chip this winter. Another thing to remember, Sandy Alderson and his baseball operation staff are not emotionally invested in the majority of the players on the Major League level of the organization and would have no problem dealing them off to improve the team. That’s why I feel the Mets will be one of the most active teams in trades this off season because there is no way you can bring back the bulk of this team in 2013 and win.

Metscellaneous

While the Mets were off yesterday they still made some news albeit bad news that Tim Brydak is suffering from torn capsule in his left shoulder, same injury that Johan Santana and Chris Young suffered, and is done for the season and maybe for good.

A real shame that Brydak has gone down injury and this one is devastating when you factor in his age (38) and he doesn’t have a contract for 2013. I would not count Brydak out from returning to pitching after rehabbing this injury but I doubt he’s come back to the Mets if he did.

If you are in the Tarrytown area today between 12 Noon and 1:30 PM, head over to the Citi Bank branch at 2 South Broadway to meet John Franco and get a handshake, picture and an autograph.

Ike Davis and country music performer Lee Brice will join in a benefit for Solving Kids Cancer at the City Winery on September 9th at 7 PM. City Winery is located at 155 Varick St in Manhattan.  Along with the concert there will be an open bar, raffles and an auction.

The Mets will unveil a new concession tonight at Citi Field, Pat LaFrieda’s Steak Sandwich. The sandwich is made with 100 % Black Angus Filet Mignon, Monterey Jack cheese, caramelized onions, special au jus sauce on a toasted baguette. The only thing this sandwich doesn’t have is power and the abilty to play right field. The sandwich will be sold at the Taste of the City food court on the field level behind centerfield.

35 Years ???? WOW!

I’m heading out to Citi Field today but before I enter the ballpark I will stop at the Seaver entrance for a moment of quite thought and reflection of the worst day in the history of the NY Mets, June 15th 1977 the day Tom Seaver was shipped off to Cincinnati by the Incubus , M. Donald Grant and changed the fortunes of the Mets franchise.  35 years have passed and I still get a pain in my gut over this awful event.

On a much brighter note, today is also the anniversary of Keith Hernandez joining the Mets from the St Louis Cardinals and the 10th anniversary of the Mets-Highlanders and the first hook up of Piazza-Clemens since the infamous 2000 World Series bat tossing incident. Mets fans waited in anticipation for pitcher Shawn Estes’ drilling of Clemens as he stepped to the plate, but to our disappointment Estes gave a half ass attempt and threw behind Clemens ample ass and not his chin, oh well, maybe a jury in D.C. will gives us vindication.

For this and other events that happened on this day check out Chris Jaffe’s column at The Hardball Times.

Murray Chass is an ass. Today, Meshuga Murray is back on the” Mike Piazza is a juicer bandwagon”. Piazza is coming out with a book in February and Chass thinks Piazza is waiting for the results of the Hall of Fame vote to release his tome. For this Chass is on the war path, campaigning for HOF voters to bypass Piazza on their ballot. If Meshuga Murray has the goods on Piazza then why not let the world know? Maybe he’s saving it for a book?

I have a correction for the Tuesday appearances by former Mets Art Shamsky and Ed Charles.  The Glider will be at the Citi Bank branch at 485 1st Ave in Manhattan (just off E 27 St) and Shamsky will be at the Citi Bank branch in Middle Village at 78-09 Metropolitan Ave. Both players will be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans from 12 Noon to 1:30 PM.

Isn’t it crazy how things work, for the next three days we have to root for the Highlanders as they head to D.C. to take on the Nationals. What can you say, that’s baseball Suzyn!
