….. AND THAT CONCLUDES THE 2009 NY METS BASEBALL SEASON………..

Stop listening to the Minister of Mis-Information Omar Minaya. Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, John Maine and J J Putz are NOT COMING BACK THIS SEASON!!!!!!! For some reason Omar hasn’t gotten it through his head that all the talk of the injured has been undermining this team for the past month. While it’s not just Omar’s fault, J-Man was the early culprit in this stupid “Hold the fort until they get back” losers mentality but he finally figured out how unproductive that attitude was. Now add D-Wright to those slow learners that this “blame it on the injuries” lament is for losers which is what the Mets are right now.

Instead of Minaya spewing his bullshit on SNY and in the press he should be sitting down and figuring out how much of the deadwood on the player development side will be thrown out for salvage come the end of the season.

I hope you all have come to the realization that this season is kaput. The time now is to turn to who in the farm system is worth promotion to either see how they fit here in 2010 for to let them strut their stuff and entice other organizations to talk trade.

But the biggest movement here will be clearing out the front office. The only thing that will save Omar’ ass is the Skill Sets will in no way shape or form fire him and pay him to lay on the beach in the D.R. but at some point the Skill Sets may have to think of finding a baseball executive that Omar would report to.

Freddy Skill Sets realized a few years ago that he sucks as a baseball man but he didn’t have the heart to tell his little boy Jeffey that he wasn’t a baseball man either. The time has come for Freddy to have a heart to heart with the little shit and give him a dose of tough love that it’s time for Jeffey to stay out of the baseball business. That’s not to say that all contract and money spent won’t go through Jeffey as he is the owner and he is in charge of the money being spent (you think he gives his daddy grief about Freddy’s good buddy Bernie Madoff ?) but this off season I don’t want to hear that Jeffey is wining and dining free agent and calling agents and stalking Omar about personnel moves. The Mets need a President of Baseball Operations to run the entire spectrum of player personnel, pro and minor league along with amateur scouting. If Omar has a problem with that then let him resign and leave the money behind. I doubt that he would do that and as I stated the Mets won’t fire him so hiring a boss for him is the next logical step. The first name that comes to mind is Sandy Alderson who left the Padres earlier this year. Gene Michael would be another great choice and with the Bronx Robber Barron out of the picture maybe a substantial raise would lure him one boro over. Buck Showalter would be controversial and maybe not a fan favorite but his track record shows he can build a team and maybe it’s time for guy to rattle the cages in Queens. Could Andy MacPhail be fed up with Peter Angelos and come to NY to carry on the MacPhail NY baseball family legacy ?

The bottom line is it’s time to take the keys away from Omar and put Jeffey in the corner and bring in a Baseball CEO to save the franchise.

A CARLOS DELGADO DOING THE HIPPY-HIPPY-SHAKE

If you saw the back page of the Daily News this morning you’d think “oh shit” but then when you read the story you say “what’s the big deal”?:

And asked if he could be certain that he’ll return to the Mets at some point during the 2009 season, Delgado said: “I can’t guarantee that. But it looks that that’s going to be the case. The most important thing is to get better, get healthy, that you can perform effectively, and that’s our goal.

“I think that’s going to happen sometime this year, but I can’t guarantee nothing.”

So he feels he can get back this year but who knows what set backs he could endure during his rehab. Makes sense no?

Joe Janish hits a home run in his post at Mets Today on Fernando Martinez and the lazy ass culture of the Mets. I went over this last night with Joe McDonald on PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL. Larry Brooks in a story in yesterday Post said the same thing that the Mets are known for non-hustle and I agree. Delgado has been a culprit as has Beltran at times, Reyes has not hustled on numerous occasions and the fan fav Mike Piazza dogged it regularly (Yeah Joe Mac Piazza dogged it!!) Now most of this non ass busting is not to maligners but down right laziness. The more I think of young Martinez not busting it the other day the more pissed off I am at him and at J-Man for not taking him off the field. As I said last night, I’m trying not to rush to judgment on F-Mart as it’s just two games but do far I don’t see what the big fuss is about this kid and maybe it would have been more beneficial to him to leave him in Buffalo for the whole season.

Mets Grrl in her continuing endeavor to make $iti Field a better place for Mets fans and to help straighten out this clueless ownership has a third installment of her letter writing campaign this time to have the Skill Sets acknowledge the history of the NY Mets in $iti Field. This prove how pathetic the Skill Sets are when it comes to knowing it’s fan base that you actually have to pressure them to celebrate the franchise history.

You may have read the Tyler Kepner piece in the Times the other day where he reports on Nolan Ryan and Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux are going back to old school tactics with the Rangers pitchers throughout the organization to go deeper into games and not be a slave to pitch counts. All I can say is HALLE-FUCKING-LUJAH!!!!!! I would hope the Mets would get in on this retro trend as well. It has to start in the low minors as it’s time pitchers learned how to pitch and how to pitch out of trouble. Too many guys stand on that mound when they are in a jam ready to shit themselves while looking toward the bullpen for help. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the minor league teams records and winning the fucking Sally League Championship, how about teaching not only pitchers but all players in the organization the proper way to play baseball. You can shove the NY-PENN League Championship Banners up Jeffey’s ass.

For a much calmer look at pitch counts check out Mike Silva’s NYBD and his thoughts on this.

‘IT’S NOT LIKE YOU TO SAY SORRY, I WAS WAITING ON A DIFFERENT STORY, THIS TIME I’M MISTAKEN FOR HANDING YOU A HEART WORTH BREAKING I’VE BEEN WRONG, I’VE BEEN DOWN, BEEN TO THE BOTTOM OF EVERY BOTTLE THESE FIVE WORDS IN MY HEAD SCREAM “ARE WE HAVIN’ FUN YET?”

Heading for the ferry this morning as I popped on my iPod and set it to shuffle the first song that came on was Nickelback’s “You Remind Me”, how appropriate (as I was walking to my office when I got to Wall St Green Day’ Boulevard of Broken Dreams came on now that’s freaky) for what happened last night in DC and the uneasiness right now in the Land of Orange and Blue.

As much as Dirty Sanchez sucked balls last night, the offense was the worst culprit of the night. It just seems who ever is up with bases loaded hits into a double play. I would have bet my house that the Mets lead baseball in most hit into DP’s but they don’t in fact they rank 18th in most GDP’s but isn’t it every game now that the DP is a rally killer?

I’m glad to see J-Man take my advice and throw Bobby Parnell a bone and use Ricardo Rincon as well. Now if he can free Al Reyes we can see who are the most effective pitchers in the pen. It’s the old throw the shit on the wall and see what sticks. It’s not the way to run a team and that brings me to this conclusion on the J-Man –Omar Minaya relationship.

I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that Warlord Jerry will be the Mets manager in 2009.  I look at the way J-Man has used the personnel since the first of the month call ups and I get the feeling that Omar and J-Man are not exactly on the same page as it comes to who plays and who sits. J-Man has made it known that playing time is done through a meritocracy and not pay checks. This theory crossed my mind listening to Gary Cohen say the Mets were going to have Parnell pitch a simulated game to get some work and see where he stood to get some pen work. That to me has Omar/ Tony B fingerprints all over it and as the losses and blown saves add up and Omar starts to realize that if the Mets don’t make the post season he could be on the unemployment line, how much arm twisting does he do with the manager to get things done the way he wants?

Is there any other team in sports that fucks around with injured players like the Mets?  It’s a testament to how much pressure Omar Minaya is feeling that he hasn’t sent John Maine to see a surgeon to get that bone spur on his rotator cuff taken care of. All we here is that Maine can not do any more damage to his shoulder and I’m supposed to believe that. BULLSHIT. Billy Wagner had a cramp in his forearm too and Ryan Church had a slight headache and Gimp Castillo has a touch of traumatism.    Then the Skill Sets want to know why the organization is treated like a bunch of chumps by fans and media.

I don’t know how these two guys went a stray in their baseball loyalties   but when it comes to hip and cool in the blogesphre Repoz and Alex Bleth are the hippest and coolest Check out this post from Repoz on Bleth’ Bronx Banter site on his memory of Highlander Stadium and Michael Burke the man who ran the Bronx Bastards into the ground before the Robber Baron took over. Some Highlander historian needs to write a book on the men who have run that franchise throughout their history.   Repoz and Belth are like the double bill I saw at Max’s of Iggy Pop and Mink DeVille back in the day.

Mike Silva has a piece on the Mets shuffling off their Triple A team to Buffalo which is a solid move.

Someone at WFAN better wake up fast and clean up the mess on that station between 1-6 as Francesca on the FAN should be changes to Floundering on the FAN. You can’t have a round guy that is so square do a show by himself as Francesca lacks the personality to carry it off. Whatever you think of Chris Russo he had the chops to do it but lacked the overall sports knowledge that Pope Mike possesses. That’s what made them so successful each guy had his strength and weaknesses and they played off each beautifully.

SPEWING FROM ALL ANGLES

UGHHHHHH! Back to Work This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But before I hit the pile of work I have here on my desk (I need some real motivation here to get to work) a few observations:

The walking wounded are ready to come back as it looks like Gimp Castillo is ready to rejoin the big club in DC tomorrow. That means most likely that Argenis “The Other” Reyes will be sent back to NOLA until September 1 or the next time Gimp falls off his Rascal. Billy Wags will grab a hot dog at Nathan’s and a round of “Shoot The Freak” while rehabbing with the Cyclones in Coney Island, which spells the end most likely for Eddie Kunz on the big league roster. Me personally I’d send back Carlos Muniz who has been a huge disappointment to me as I thought he’d excel as a late inning guy but he just gets a reprieve until John Maine is activated on Wednesday. It looks like Brain Stokes off his start Saturday will stay as the long man in what is a mess of a bullpen. If there is one critsisim of Omar Minaya that is justified it is he has not upgraded the bullpen from last year and that was the main culprit in the Collapse of “07. Ryan Church is down in St. Lonesome and if that doesn’t make his head hurt hopefully he’ll bounce back but I don’t here much optimism coming from the Ivory Tower of Shea.

Sad weekend with both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes passing away. Mac was a no hold bared comic who was extremely funny and that’s because he spoke the truth and didn’t give a shit who was offended. Hayes made one of the great records of the 70’s with the theme from the movie SHAFT (“Who’s the black private dick that’s a sex machine to all the chicks-SHAFT-You’re damn right”)  and later gained fame as Chef on South Park R.I.P. Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes!!!!

This whole PSL bullshit has me shaking my head. Today I read a story in the Post about NY Football Giants fans dipping into their retirement accounts and taking out loans to buy the PSL at the new Stadium. I understand that these folks have had the tickets for years and years but when you start raiding your IRA and 401-K for tickets to a sporting even that is just fucked up. Really I love the Mets more than any other team I root for but the Wilpons can kiss my Royal Irish Ass if they jack the price of tickets so high that I have to go into my pension for a loan to watch them. Anyone who does that needs their fucking head examined.

I love the site The Gowanus Lounge because it post shit like this that makes laugh until it hurts. I love when the Yuppies who took over Park Slope and gentrified it get riled up when they see unsavory behavior like this. Back in the70’s there would have been a line. for that.

Sure now that I’m back from Boston those egg heads a MIT figure out a way to hack into the Charlie Card.

I tune into the end of the Nats-Brewers game yesterday when I got home from Shea and Bob Carpenter and Don Sutton got into a discussion that proved they were both retarded.

L Millz was up in the top of the 12th and Carpenter was going on about the shadows on the field and how tough it was to see the ball as a batter. Carpenter then made a statement that made my head snap, “Can you imagine these shadows if the Brewers make the post season and they have to play at 4 PM” HUH? Bob, the post season starts in OCTOBER where sunset in Wisconsin is at 6:30 PM not at 8:05 PM as it is now so  they shadows will be different if any and besides maybe it will be a cloudy day when the Brew Crew play did that ever cross your mind?  Shit, it could even snow for that fact and the roof will be closed. Did I tell you how much I love Gary, Keith and Ron?

Mets are on a 1PM today which will be a big help in me getting through the mounds of paper work on my desk.
