Yes Fred and Jeff Wilpon Mets Fans CAN Handle The Truth!

I was all set to put up a post this morning but we had a bit of a situation at work that required an all hands on deck approach so that settled that for me.

One of the items I wanted to touch on was the anger that is building within the fan base. It seems the frustrations of another meaningless second half, this one coming on the heels of an optimistic first half, and the uncertainty of what the 2013 payroll will be are the main culprits in this uprising. The good news for Mets management is that there still is a pulse, a passion in Mets fans to get their dander up. But how long does the passion last until it turns to apathy?

I have no idea what the Skill Sets financial situation is and I’m sure they are not looking to share those details with me or anyone else not involved in the baseball operations of the Mets. I’m pretty sure there is still tremendous debt both on the ballpark, the team and SNY plus legal fees that have to be paid. So the question is what will be left to procure talent to make the 2013 Mets a contending team?

I’m not optimistic that there will be enough funds to sign a solid power hitting outfielder while releasing a very highly paid and unfortunately useless left fielder in Jason Bay. What will happen with David Wright this offseason, will he and the Mets come to an agreement on a contract extension that will keep him in a Mets uniform for the rest of his career? Again not knowing the financials I think the Skill Sets will find a way to extend Wright 5 yrs at $100 mil but the question is will Wright want to stay here?

I have to give Freddy Skill Sets credit when he was approached by David Lennon of Newsday during an infrequent walk on the field during BP, that he made no comment and kept walking briskly away as the media took off after him for a quote and all they got was a cloud of dust and the reply of “Ask Sandy”.

I guess after the Gucci loafer in mouth quotes Freddy gave to Jeffery Toobin last year in the New Yorker article, he’s learned his lesson to keep your head down and walk fast when discovered by reporters. Even at the All Star Game presser, Freddy was not in attendance and Jeffy gave just a brief speech.

As I’ve said, I have no idea what the financial situation is with the Skill Sets and how it effects the off season game plan but I do know this after the October 3 game against the Fish, the topic of conversation for the next four months will be money and how much the Wilpons have to invest in their team.

The only thing I’ve ever wanted from the Skill Sets is honesty and for some reason they have a tough time with that concept. Just level with your fan/customer base about what the game plan is going forth for 2013 and beyond. That’s all we’re asking, honesty and transparency two very good traits to possess. I’ve said for the longest time if Freddy came out and said “we are still trying to recover monetarily from the Madoff scandal and now that the trial has been settled we are trying to regroup financially both personally and professionally. “ Com’on try it Freddy and Jeffy just be honest with your fans/customers THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREEE !!!!!! and buy you some much needed good will as well.

ANDY MARTINO WEEPS IN THE PRESS BOX AS METS WIN 6TH IN A ROW

What will the Mets beat writers do?  This is not what they envisioned; they were all giddy with the awful start of the season so they could use their best material, the team is broke,  the team can’t hit, the starting pitching stinks, how could Sandy Alderson think he could rebuild a bullpen with cheap knocks offs, and what’s with this manager ? All this positivity in the clubhouse, going to each player during the early season losing and giving encouragement, doesn’t he know he’s the manager of the Mets?

I’m sure the beat men will find a way to get an ownership story or a slow ticket sale story in there some way today because why should we Mets fans have joy? Why should we think that this six game winning streak and the way they came back has put a jump in our step today, and have folks who know of our devotion to the Blue and Orange greet us with “I know your enjoying this” . YES, yes I am and so are all Mets fans, even Daniel Murphy, who is the quintessential Met (on offense the fans yell,” YEAH MURPH”, on defense the yell “AW SHIT MURPH”) is getting tipsy with the success calling out 100 wins as the goal for the Mets. As I say, I love Murph like he’s a cousin, but let’s not get crazy, I love the enthusiasm but YIKES!!!

What more can be said about visually challenged  umpire Marvin Hudson’ and the horrific crime he committed against the Mets and Jose Reyes.  After my initial outrage and my simple response to this Tweet from David Lennon, I noticed from the many replays that not only was Reyes safe and his hand never left the bag but the way Reyes flipped out by tossing his helmet didn’t get him thrown out of the game, nor did Chip Hale who was Rodman-esque in his box out of Reyes but still got in position to scream in Hudson’s face didn’t get tossed and neither did Terry Collins who got in Hudson’s grill and bumped him when he ran to argue. Add in that none of the other shitheads in blue came to Hudson’s defense, solidifies this major fuck up by Hudson.

One thing about the call, it woke up the club. Up to that point, this was a pedestrian contest  that feature a close to one hour rain delay, and a sparse crowd that was made up of mainly Mets fans  (on TV replays the whole lower bowl of Nationals Park seemed to be all Mets fans)  and Bob Ross R.A. Dickey painting away with just a few happy accidents. Then came “The Call” and then Danny Boy Murphy clocking a home run that had Gary Cohen make one of his classic “IT’S OUTTTTTTTAAAAAA HHHEEEEEEREEEEEEE” calls to tie the game.

I know, I know Murph was a spectator on the “double” by Adam LaRoche (something I preach with my kids, no spectators on the field know where to should be on every play) but the ball was in Bay’s glove and popped out but what gets lost in the inning is the passed ball by Thole that advanced pinch runner Brian Bixler to third allowing him to score the go ahead run on Wilson Ramos Sac Fly. Enough blame to spread around.

I despise the Black jersey’s but I love the wins and if I have to put up the sight of dreaded black to keep this winning streak going then so be it, let the Mets be the Princes of Darkness.

When Roger McDowell was a Met he was one big goof ball. With all the crap that swirled around with the team you never heard anything negative about McDowell . Now there is an allegation of McDowell making homophobic slurs and telling a man and his family “that kids don’t belong at the fuckin’ ballpark”. If the allegations are true and I say IF and can be proven then the Braves will have to take some sort of disciplinary actions against McDowell.  What I find unseemly about this is the alleged victim looks like he’s looking for a payday. As soon as you hire Systerest to the Stars, Gloria Alldred you lose me as an ally. If Mr. Quinn went to the media with this, he’d have more creditability with me.  McDowell has apologized for his actions but that won’t be enough for the Quinn’s, but I’m sure the apology with a nice six figured check would suffice.  Everyone is a victim until the check clears.

Dodgers owner for now, Frank McCourt ,was in the NYC to meet with officials of MLB about the fate of the Hollywood Bums. After the meeting, McCourt was seen strolling along Prospect Park West in Brooklyn checking doorbells for anyone named Ebbits or McKeever.

RAG ARM RELIVERS SHOULD NOT SPEAK

Who the fuck is Brian Bruney and who gave him permission to speak? How about waiting until you’ve done something in th ebig leagues besides hold Mariano Rivera’ wam up jacket before you open your pie hole about another player, especially a guy who could pitch better with his left arm than you do with your right. Bruney is still an understudy and he has the brass balls to comment on Frankie Rodriguez a bona fide All Star reliever. I like how Frankie handled it when he said if Bruney had something to say then when the Highlander’s come to $iti Field say it to his face. Yeah , like that will ever happen Bruney will probley find a way to go back to his favorite spot the DL. Now go help A J Burnett make whip cream pies douche bag!

I should thank Brunet and the Highlanders though because with all the injuries and bad play of late my enthusiasm is running a bit low but with the win yesterday and Bruney’s big mouth and the team rallying around Castillo and David Wright kicking ass, I’m one stoke Mets fan and from reading stories n the fish wraps this morning a win today with Johan and the Mets could just become the darlings of New York.

As I type this checking out Twitter, David Lennon reports that Frankie Rodriguez just went after Brian Bruney to give him an ass kicking Now we got something here. With Johan pitching could we see a bench clearer?

TIME TO HEAD FOR THE HILLS

No blogging for the weekend as I’m off the U.S. Military Academy in West Point for a weekend camping trip with my sons Boy Scout troop. Even though the troop has a strict no electronics policy when it comes to these trips, the subversive that I am will sneak a radio in my bag to try to listen or at least get a score of this weekend Mets-Phillies series. Hopefully my tent mate won’t turn me in and have my ass hauled off to the stockade.

Sure it’s a big series but I think it’s to the Mets benefit that they are playing in Philly since they are so concerned about fan reaction. Remember the words of Bobby Knight, “when you start listening to the people in the stands, you end up joining them”. It seems that it’s not a lack of focus with the Mets but misplaced focus that is doing them in.

On that subject a must listen is Mike Silva’s interview with Kevin Kernan of the NY Post  that connects the paranoia of the owner and front office rubbing off on the uniform personnel. Silva’s comment says it all:

The Mets have a reputation for trying to control the news around their club. It never works and often makes things even worse in the long run. How can you expect your players to toughen up when management has an equally, if not worse, thin skin? What’s next? You’re going to throw the fans out and play in an empty stadium so you don’t hear any boos? Keep playing like this and you might not need to worry about that.

HOME RUN  Mike!!!!

David Lennon calls out the lack of intestinal fortitude of the Mets:

Often, it’s hard to pin down the intangibles with numbers, but not in this case. With Wednesday’s loss to the Marlins, the Mets (9-12) stumbled to 1-10 when trailing after six innings. After seven, they are 0-11.

The newest member of the Douche Bag Hall of Fame is Philadelphia Inquirer columnist John Gonzalez. Its guys like Gonzalez that makes the demise of newspapers easier to take. If a blogger ever wrote a poorly put together piece like this Buzz Bissinger would go to his mother’s basement and kick his ass. I’d call Gonzalez a rank amateur but the fact that he lives and worked in Philadelphia is punishment enough. For a fan base that for vast majority of its existence has been apathetic towards it’s baseball team, they really need a good strong glass of shut the fuck up. Phillies fans are starting to make Highlander fans tolerable.

Shrek and Johnny Bench Santos are safe for a while longer and Brian Schneider is still feeling the effects of a sore calf. Take your time Bri.

Enjoy your weekend and while your snug in your bed think of me sleeping in the woods and don’t smirk.

LET’S  GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BAD OLLIE, BAD BAD

Instead of ranting here on the Bad Ollie Experience of yesterday just listen to my rant on Pro Baseball Central from last night. I think I set a record for the most times using the phrase “consistency in the mechanics” Also Ben Kabak of River Ave Blues was on to talk Highlanders.

Of all people The Old Grumpy Man has a positive piece on Gary Sheffield joining the Mets.

Darren O’Day had a very tough day dealing with the death of Nick Adenhart. The LA Times also chronicles the long list of tragedies that have struck the Angels franchise.

You have got to go to the Gary, Keith and Ron site and purchase the new Ralph Kiner shirt. This t-shirt should be standard uniform for all Mets fans it’s absolutely stunning.

Thanks a lot David Lennon for now setting of a wide spread panic through out Mets Fandom.

“COM’ON YOU LITTLE GANSTA’S, OFF THE BUS”

Isn’t this great?. The first day of Vernal Equinox and it is snowing like a mutha’ here in NYC. Thankfully, it’s not sticking and the forecast tomorrow is for sunny skies and 50 degrees which is fine to conduct my first practice of the baseball season with my 13 year old Babe Ruth League team and to show that I’m more Gansta’ than Jerry Manuel I’m holding practice at a park next to the Berry Projects on SI. I might even wear my sweatpants down to my knees.

Last night on Pro Baseball Central we talked about the Mets roster, the Mets announcer’s tournament at Amazin’ Avenue, St Patrick’s Day, Kilts, what’s under the kilt, booze and rubber ducky’s. To hear what you missed check out the podcast at Pro Baseball Central web site.

Jon Niese was sent to minor league camp today and that sucks for the kid who had visions of making the team as the 5th starter. So now it’s just about in stone that Livan Hernandez will get that spot but you can be sure we will see Niese sooner rather than later this season.

Ollie P makes his first spring start for the Mets and from what David Lennon says his mechanics while with Team Mexico were so messed up that Old School Dan Warthen had to deconstruct Ollie through video, instruction and a good old fashion ass kicking (ok I made that one up) just another reason for teams to get together and abolish the WBC.

Brain Costa at the Star Ledger has a nice piece on Bobby Parnell and his quest to make the Mets in the bullpen. What will be interesting to watch as the cuts come down is how much influence J-Man has on whom goes and who stays. Manuel has talked up Parnell and Nick Evans as two kids he adores and wants on his squad but money and player options may determine who comes North and  who keeps going further North to Buffalo.

It’s hard serving to masters isn’t David?  But not to worry as help is on the way for Team USA as Evan Longoria is headed to LA to fortify the Team of the Land of the Corporate Bailout. Craig Calcaterra of the fabulous Shyster Ball site explains with some kind of fantasy mumbo-jumbo. I could never get into that si-fi stuff all that make believe crap as I live in the here and now in real life, oh shit is tonight my fantasy baseball draft? Yikes! Got to go prepare!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO PAIN AND WE GAIN

Now that’s the way to spend a day off as the Mets gain an other half a game on the Phlacid Phillies as the Aramis Ramirez launched a Grand Slam off Chad Durbin (“CLANK” go the cups of Old Style) to defeat Albino Manuel’s squad 6-4 and now the statically good Phillies bullpen is showing some cracks and Good Ol’ Cholly’s managerial moves are being question by the those famous front runners in the Philly and the press.

Seems like Gary Cohen wasn‘t the only one wondering why JC Romano was not in the game to face Carlos Del-GOD-o, JC is stilling wondering as well.

David Lennon has a piece on the new “Steady As She Goes” attitude in the Mets clubhouse. Lennon shows that as we Mets fans clutched our chest in horror over Tuesday’s awful defeat, the Mets players took it in stride and that Warlord Jerry has loosen the reins of the clubhouse and is treating his men like men. No one will come out and say that the fact that Willie Randolph choked the life out of the team last season during the “collapse” and J-Man is more perceptive of what makes his team click.

First the NYPD roughed up a guy at Highlander Stadium for having the audacity to want to take a leak during the phony patriotism part of the 7th inning the other night, now we have to female Red Sox fans who it is reported were tossed from the Steinbrenner Slum for rooting too much for the Sawx. As we see in this clip, the first female was escorted down the upper deck stairs without incident, but her accompilis makes a very big mistake, fucking with an NYPD officer, not just any NYPD officer but a very large and very angry female cop.  The female cop is also African-American and one thing I love about African American women is when they get mad and do that finger thing, where they pull back their arm and point that finger to say “don’t you fuck with me” it’s something a white woman could never pull off. Same as a white guy trying to wear a red suit, we just can’t pull that fashion statement off. Meanwhile it took three cops to subdue the Amazon Blonde and all three officers had ample waist lines as well, that’s a lot of heft by the authorities so advantage Angry White Chick.
