NY Mets Notes for 4-1-13

A few Opening Day notes form the NY Mets:

Last Met to hit a leadoff home run on opening day was Kaz Matsui on 4-6-04 at Turner Field

In the history of MLB the NY Mets have the best opening day winning percentage of all time at .647 (33-18)

David Wright has had at least one hit in every opening day game he’s played in for the Mets since his debut in 2005

There has been only one Mets Grand Slam hit on opening day and that was by Todd Hundley in Colorado on 4-26-1995

Happy Birthday to Daniel Murphy (#Imwith28 who turns 28) and Rusty Staub (Le Grand Orange) who turns 69 years old and will throw out the first pitch of today’s game.

The Mets will honor the first responders who did outstanding work during Hurricane Sandy.

SIGN, SIGNS EVERYWHERE SIGNS….

There is no truth to the rumor that I injured myself blogging about the Mets. In fact I never felt better.

My in-laws have a time share in the Poconos so they invited us up for a couple of days and the only place with WiFi is the lobby of the main buliding so I had a choice, write about the latest Mets loss or hit the water park with the kids. Guess what won?

Last night we took a ride to Mount Airy lodge. This used to be the home of the heart shaped tub and mirrors on the bedroom ceiling. Now that’s all gone (which when you reach 50 is a good thing as I don’t even like mirors in the bathroom ) and the big thing now is video gaming machines. After 20 minutes and 40 bucks lost I had enough and luckily there were TV’s by a bar that had the Mets-Marlins game so I watched another Big Pelf inconsistent start. As bad as the loss was, I was pissed that I lost 40 bucks. My wife finds it very funny since oneof our favortie vaction spots before we had kids was Las Vegas. I loved to play cards, bet sports, shoot craps now I’m like a guy on a pension getting all pissed off losing 40 bucks.

I see the Mets won today in Miami by the way how do you schedule a day game in Miami in August? Good to see Tim Redding step up as well as Fernado Tatis and Angel Pagan but the guy who is coming around is Daniel Murphy. Sorry all you Murph haters!!!!!!

Enough Mets, there is a water slide waiting for my middle aged ass to hit

Later!

HEY-HEY, HO-HO OPENING NIGHT HAS GOT TO GO HEY-HEY, HO-HO

The Mets Police (they are inside of my head) has come up with a campaign that we should all get behind whether we are fortunate enough to have ticket or will watch on TV ,The Mets, MLB, ESPN and the San Diego Padres need to agree to switch the opening of game at $iti Field to a 1:05 start instead of the 7:05 PM  it is scheduled for right now. Mets Police has links to all the people you need to contact to voice your outrage and he makes a great point that MLB and ESPN (which is getting it’s ass kicked by the MLB Network as the place to go for your baseball news) have no problem disrupting your life to move games from day to night so they can’t use the excuse that they can’t make the switch. As for the Padres not being able to play after playing a day game Sunday then flying cross country and playing a day game Monday, why play Monday? Play it Tuesday when there is an off day.

There is no reason for this game to be a night game and as much as I can’t wait to get to $iti Field, my first time at $iti Field I want romance I want to take my time and stroll all around the park and caress every corner and be dazzled. I can’t do that if my McNuggets are freezing, no I need to do so it in the sunshine.

Even if the game was a Shea,  it’s Opening DAY!!!! It’s a holiday (I’ve tried to get excused absence from work due to religious beliefs but that hasn’t worked. I have to give Norman Siegel at the ACLU a call to see if my civil rights have been violatoted ) KEEP THIS DAY HOLY!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw this commercial on ESPN so I searched You Tube and found it. It’s Marvin Gaye singing the National Anthem at the 1983 NBA All Star game (A classic performance) with a montage of TEAM USA Basketball Gold Medalists. If I owned a team I would play Marvin Gaye’ version of the Star Spangled Banner before every week day game. On Sunday I’d play the Jimi Hendrix version.
