DON’T WE ALL WORK FOR A FRED WILPON?

After digesting all the fallout from What Said Fred, I was struck by the obvious, Freddy Skill Sets is just like every other suit in high management of a corporation, he’s an ingrate and has no appreciation for his workers. Just like your boss and my boss.

When was the last time someone in the upper management of your job came to you and said “you know your productivity is just amazing? Without a worker like you this company would never be as prosperous as it is, whatever we’re paying you is not enough, so please accept this raise and an additional week of paid vacation”   Ha! Like never.

Management is never appreciative of its workers,” How many orders did you process today, a 1,000? I’m sure you could have done better that if you didn’t need so many bathroom breaks and an hour lunch? ““Are you guys sure that’s how you fix a water main, I mean just cutting the pipe and fusing a new one in, is that the best way to do it, who me? I’ve never fixed a water main in my life, yes, I know you’ve been doing this for 25 years and are the go to guy for these types of jobs, but………OH GOD, I GOT MUD ON MY BROOKS BROTHER SUIT………Arrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhh.

See Freddy can’t help the way he feels about his team, it comes with the title of Ungrateful Chief Executive Officer. Every company has one. Welcome to the workforce David, Jose and Carlos.

What more can you say about last night’s game, the defense treated the ball like it was “shitty” (that “shitty  quote will live on forever, just like Steve Philips “Skill Sets” and Art “He lights up a room “ Howe) The guy you have to have empathy for is Terry Collins, just when he gets the team playing well and has a bump in the road losing 2 of 3 in the Bronx, I bet he figured this was a good time to go on the road to bond a bit as club and all that good rah-rah stuff and then Freddy goes all crazy old man on him, making his job a little tougher.  It was like the Mets were sending a message to Freddy, “You want shitty, we’ll show you shitty”

Speaking of schmucks (?) I was listening to Boomer and Carton this morning as they took phone calls from Highlander fans that bailed out of last night’s game with the Bronx Bastards down 4-1 in the 7th.   All the callers expressed their love for the Bombers and said they were long time fans but still they had no faith in their team that they couldn’t come back from a 3 run deficit at home in a park with a right field wall a mere 314 ft away? You call yourselves “die hards” what you are is an embarrassment to baseball fans everywhere. And yes I watch the Mets-Cubs game in its entirety.  I may be a schmuck but at least I’m a loyal schmuck.

SCHOOL IS IN SESSION

I’ve been consumed by all the Rangers news this morning that I haven’t scratched the surface on the news out of St Lonesome but I am starting to think that Warlord Jerry spent the off season studying psychology  books as early in this camp of ’09 it seems it’s all about the mental prep work as much as the physical.

Just from the early dispatches, it looks as though J-Man feels since I have the same cast of characters that ended the season save for the two studs at the back end of the pen, there has to be a different way to motivate this group by going after their weak points (in case you haven’t heard, the Mets choked the last two years, just ask Cole Hamels he’ll tell you)

With the bullpen fortified with Putz and Rodriguez, the other big reason for the two season collapse has been the lack of situational hitting and not scoring runs late in the game. The Mets biggest scoring inning last year was the first and the lowest was the ninth, so Manuel has put an emphasis on hitting behind the runner and giving oneself up for the team. It’s clear that J-Man felt the team he took over was a selfish bunch and he wants that mind set erased and he came right out a pointed the finger at the guys he felt fit that category.

The player Manuel went after first was Jose Reyes, who it seems was more worried about stealing bases just to pad his stats and was the least grown up of the Big Three of Wright-Beltran-Reyes so saying it was time for Jose to take a little more responsibility around the team really meant time to grow up . So to see what Reyes was made of J-Man declares the Reyes could be the #3 hitter and we all waited for the fallout. Well, we’re still waiting as Reyes came in and said all the right things just like a grown up.

Manuel then went on to Gimp Castillo but took a different tact, as everyone associated with the team from the fans, front office, ushers, $iti Field construction workers all felt Castillo needed to shipped out. So Manuel went the opposite praising the second baseman for coming into camp 10 lbs lighter and with a better attitude that moved Manuel to say that Castillo looked like his old Marlins self and would be used in the top spot of the order and so far everyday Manuel finds a way to get a positive quote about Castillo into the Mets news of the day. That makes Gimp a happy camper

I guess after watching the baseball version of a gym rat in Daniel Murphy, Manuel knew that even with ordaining Murph as the left fielder the kid would still continue to work his ass off and Murphy’ response of I have to keep working like my job is on the line, proved that Manuel made the right read.

Now it’s on to Ryan Church who has the carrot out in front of him by J-Man who stated that Murph was a better hitter than Church and of course that pissed off Church big time. Exactly what Manuel wanted to do, Sometime guys get a bit complacent and need a little nudge but instead of a nudge Manuel gave Church a shove.

What coaching comes down to his knowing the personalities of your players as fans we get a bit to wrapped up in the in game strategy when in reality when the game starts there is only so much a coach or manager can do as you can’t hit, pitch or field for your guys. I like what Manuel is trying to do here as he is looking to motivate each player individually to get them to come together collectively as a total team. This game plan might just work.

“FUNNY? FUNNY HOW? LIKE I’M A CLOWN?

You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it’s me, I’m a little fucked up maybe, but I’m funny how, I mean funny like I’m a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

The fallout from the awful Inaugural Season at Paupers Field patch just gets more embarrassing everyday as Stephen Colbert now weighs in on what is now known as the Pizza Patch as Domino’s Pizza is getting more exposure over the patch than those deadbeats over at Citi Group.

Last night during my diatribe on PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL I asked the questions (one of many and Manny) who is running the show in Flushing, The Skill Sets or these thieving unimaginaitive bastards from Citi Group?

Of course our pals at the 700 Level have posted the video of Colbert mocking the Mets (Mock the Mets, Mock the Mets, Step right up and Mock the Mets) and it just makes me wonder if anyone in the Skill Sets Circle jerk gives a shit or are they happy wearing a “Kick Me” sign on there back all the time.

Check out PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL from last night by clicking here.
