The Eddie Kranepool Society Congratulates David Wright on Becoming the NY Mets All-Time Hits Leader

I’m not going to lie, it was always cool to look at the section of the NY Mets media guide that houses the all-time Mets records and see Ed Kranepool’ name in the top spot as the Mets all-time hits leader. After last night though Steady Eddie has been relegated to the second all-time spot surpassed by David Wright and his squib single in the 3rd inning last night.

Kranepool has been coming to the games of this recent home stand to see Wright take his spot and according to Wright Eddie has been his biggest supporter:

“Eddie came and saw me before the game, wished me luck, and reiterated the fact that he’s happy for me and excited for me, and that meant a lot to me,” Wright said. “I’m very proud and humbled at the same time.”

So with that let offer my heartiest congratulations to David Wright on the occasion of earning the title the NY Mets All-Time Hits Leader.

Gotta Clean Up The Slop

Let’s face it, when Terry Collins rolls out his majority right handed hitting lineup the opposition isn’t exactly quaking in their cleats. So add the righty lineup with sloppy base running and defense (besides bullpen help and a right handed power bat, Sandy Alderson really needs to put getting a defensive catcher high on his things to do over the all star break list, really enough of Mike Nickeas already!) and Clayton Kershaw you get an 8-2 Mets loss but this game was more the Mets losing it than the Dodgers winning it.

A 3-1 Mets lead disintegrated  again by poor defense (I’ve been a supporter of Lucas Duda and the job he’s done in RF but lately he’s been regressing out there and I’m getting a little worried)  which seems to happen every time I think the Mets are ready to run off a big win streak (My daughter and I were in a t-shirt store in Hyannis  yesterday when the clerk saw my Mets cap and t-shirt, he said “wow the Mets are doing really well this year what are they like 5 games out of 1st place”? and in my “no you asshole “voice I told him the Mets were 2.5 games out of 1st  at which point my daughter walk slowly out of the store full of embarrassment) but still the Mets have had three winning months in a row and have not been below .500 all season so with that and the fact they are a mere 3.5 games back of the Nationals for first place in the NL East it’s been a great first half of the season.

And you want to know why I think so highly of Sandy Alderson, the truth hurts doesn’t it Mets fans

Guess The Met and Win 2 Tickets to Thursday’s Mets-Reds Game

Attention my fellow Mets fans, I have a pair of Field Level seats for this Thursday’s 1PM Mets-Reds game and I want one of you loyal readers of The Eddie Kranepool Society to have them, so the first person to identify the player in the picture above by Tweeting me, will win the ducats.

3 hints:

He was born in Renton WA

He made his ML debut on September 6th 1982

He saved 15 games for the Mets in 1984

So if go to Twitter right now and  Tweet me with this players name, the first person to do so will win the Field Box tickets and the opportunity to see R.A. Dickey pitch the first no hitter in NY Mets history.

All you need to do is go to the Will Call window at Citi Field with a valid photo ID to claim the tickets. So you get an R.A. Dickey start (vs. Matt Lattos) a sunny 75 degree day and free tickets. What’s not to like!

I AM A RANGER

<>

I know we are supposed to be all hopped up for baseball, with opening day just days away (I am very anxious to get to Citi Field early on Thursday) but I have to take time out to salute my NY Rangers on win #50 last night.

This has been the best Rangers season in years. This may not be the most talented Rangers team ever but it may be the best loved by the fans, with the exception of the 1994 Cup Champs. Even the most jaded of Rangers fan has a tough time criticizing anyone on this team, oh they try by getting on Dubi or Boyle or Richards but they look foolish doing it.

I have no idea what will happen in the Stanley Cup playoffs, I will be rooting my ass off for a Cup and a parade but right but I don’t want to get ahead of myself.

But before the playoffs start I want to thank the Rangers players, Coach Torterella and a guy I have been nasty to for years Glen Sather for giving Rangers fans a great season and for bringing us a team we are so proud of.

The video I posted gives me goosebumps every time I see it when I’m at MSG. I had NY Rangers season tickets from the mid-70′s to about 1990 when kids and a mortgage made me shift my time and money obligations but I still make sure I watch every game on TV and try to get to at least 10 games a year.

Like the message in the video says “I AM A RANGER”

NY METS TRUCK OFF TO ST. LONESOME

Sure there’s a bit of snow today and it’s colder than we’ve been used to this winter but when it comes to trying to get a gauge on the arrival of spring, nothing answers that query like Truck Day.

This coming Monday the truck filled with Mets gear will be packed and headed south to Pt. St Lonesome and as far as I’m concerned it can’t get there soon enough. This off season has been as uninteresting as none I can remember as a Mets fan.  So with spring training just a mere 8 days away we can only hope the day to day workouts and games give this grumpy fan base a spark.

There is a lot of anger amongst the faithful but what worries me is that apathy could overtake that anger, it’s one thing when your fan base has passion both positive and negative but when the folks stop caring then you have a major problem.

The Mets need  to find the baseball version of Jeremy Lin.

SCRATCH JOE NATHAN OFF METS WISH LIST, JACK WILSON? REALLY?

Well scratch Joe Nathan off my wish list for Mets closer. Nathan has signed a two year $14.5 mil deal with the Texas Rangers who will now move Netfli Perez back to the starting rotation.  I would have loved to have Nathan coming out to save games for the Mets, I really wanted Sandy Alderson to get both Nathan and Jonathan Broxton for the back end of the pen but that won’t happen.

I can’t blame Nathan for jumping on the Rangers offer as they are coming off two straight World Series appearances. I doubt the Mets would have made an offer so much better that Nathan would come to the Mets.

On the other hand, it seems the Mets are looking to sign Jack Wilson. Yes Jack Wilson <eyeroll>

FAILURE IN THE SOUTH BRONX

sorry for lack of a post on this New York Highlanders Elimination Day but it’s been busy today with lot of work around the house. I don’t know what has me more giddy, the fact that the Bronx Bastards played only 5 more games than the Mets or that Alex Rodriguez still has 6 years and $143 mil due to him on his worst contract ever, the tide is turning Mets fans, the tide is turning
