Win A Copy of KNUCKLEBALL The Movie on DVD !

The outstanding documentary “Knuckleball” will be released on DVD on April 2nd and the good folks at MPI/Film buff have offered me the chance to give away 3 DVD’s of this great documentary that follows Tim Wakefield, Charlie Hough, Phil Neikro and of course R.A. Dickey as they talk about how the most baffling pitch in baseball, the Knuckleball.

This DVD is a MUST HAVE for all baseball fans and having seen the movie I cannot recommend this film enough.   So when I was asked by the people at MPI/Film to participate in the giveaway of the Knuckleball DVD, I jumped at the chance.

So what we’ll do is starting on Friday March 15th during the day on my Twitter account @kranepool I will ask a trivia question and the person with the  first correct answer that is Tweeted back to me will win a copy of the Knuckleball DVD.

So brush up on your knuckleball trivia and follow my twitter account. One DVD per person and this contest is open to residents of the Continental USA only. Good luck.

Win A Ticket to Baseball Prospectus Visits Citi Field June 2nd 2012

The good folks over at Baseball Prospectus have set up, in conjunction with the New York Mets, a Baseball Prospectus Day at Citi Field on Saturday June 2 as the Mets take on the St. Louis Cardinals.

The day will consist of a meet and greet with some of the fine writers at BP and the opportunity to participate in a Q & A session with Mets GM Sandy Alderson, along with a ticket to the game (sitting in the area by the Home Run Apple I guess section 140 or 141) and a $15 coupon that can be used towards the purchase of a Baseball Prospectus Premium subscription or a subscription renewal. You get all this for the reasonable price of $45.01.

All the festivities get started at 2PM and game time is set for 4:10PM

Baseball Prospectus has authorized me to give away 2 free tickets to this event, so let’s have a little contest to give away the tickets. The first two readers who e mail me at sinymets@aol.com with the correct answer to the following question will win a ticket. 2 tickets 2 winners, got it? Okay here we go:

Give me the name of the pitcher who holds the NY Mets record for the most innings pitched in a game in a relief role.

GARY CARTER INTERVIEW W/KULT OF METS PERSONALITIES

I remembered that the good folks at Kiners Korner did an interview with Gary Carter sometime last year their Blog Talk Radio podcast and lo and behold I get an e-mail for Nik Kolidas with a link to the interview and a note saying he thought I’d enjoy hearing it again. Not only did I enjoy it, I felt I had to share with you folks as well.

This seems to be the last live interview that Carter participated in

A big tip of my Mets cap to Nik, Matthew Fazelpoor, Taryn Cooper, Gene Anthony and Rob Z. on a job well done.

REMEMBER THE DAY

Nothing Mets today, I’m off to the Memorial Day Parade on Staten Island, hopefully the euphoria of the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden hasn’t worn off yet and the good folks of SI will be out in full force to honor the men and women of the military who gave their lives for the country and to thank all who have served our country . All of them true patriots.

WHAT ABOUT JERRY GROTE?

I don’t give a rats ass about the numbers and Hall of Fame credentials Pepsodent smile and all that, my favorite Mets catcher of all time is was and may forever be Jerry Grote. Not even close. Go ahead flame my ass about this I don’t give a fuck you hear me all you Piazza and Carter fans.  My guy Grote was the original Captain Red Ass.  Nobody fired a ball back to a pitcher (including The Franchise) with purpose like Grote did.  Add in the fact that he wore a wool baseballall cap with the bill turned up (no protective helmet for him) that my young whipper snappers readers was a man’s catcher.

So why the “Get off my lawn” diatribe you wonder? Well the good folks at The Hardball Time have an outstanding post on the comparison between Mike Piazza, Pudge Rodriguez and <head bowed> Johnny Bench that fired my middle aged ass up this morning

For all my love of Grote I also have a deep respect and admiration for JB. In fact last time I was up in Cooperstown I bought a Reds t-shirt with BENCH 5 on the back. Check out the posting as it breaks down all three’s offensive and defensive numbers

Still, the guy I want behinf the plate for my team is Jerry Grote.  Now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
