I’m Still With 28

So Daniel Murphy has a rough couple of games and some so called Mets fans have turned on him. There are times, and this in one of those times, that this fan base deserved to treated like shit by the likes of Bobby Bonnila, Jeff Kent and the immortal Richie Hebner.

Murph had a bad game last night; for sure in fact he said it himself after the game as he faced the media. There is no run and hide in Murphy he acknowledged his bad play at 2nd base last night and addressed the fielding problems the Mets have had most of the season and he took the first shot at himself:

“You don’t have to look any farther than this locker here where to start with some of our poor play the last couple of days. It starts right here.”

Before last night, the jackals were quiet but with a two error game coming on the heels of an 0-14 offensive bump in the road, the Murphy detractors have come out in full force, none more prominent than the wanna-be Mike Francesa’s Mark Malusis and Sal Licata two of the many uniformed and untalented talking shit heads on SNY.

Before last night, there was no one taking Murphy to task about his fielding, in fact Keith Hernandez who may be a bit more qualified that a stooge like Licata, has praised the work Murph has put in with Tim Teufel to make himself into a serviceable second baseman.  It’s more sad than funny how the Murphy bashers go on and on about his defensive deficiencies but never talk about the hours of hard work Murph puts in to make himself better, see in order to observe this, you would have to get out to the ball park early and watch Murph take ground ball after ground ball but of course that would take commitment to your craft which many TV and sports talk radio nimrods in this town lack in spades.  Maybe if Licatta worked as hard at his job like Murph does he’d still be employed at WFAN.

We all know that Murphy can hit, in fact his bat with RISP has been a solid .333/.369/.433 so far this year and when its 2outs/RISP Murph raises his game to .391/.440/.522 and is one of the main reasons the Mets have played above many expectations.

Maybe it’s good that many so called Mets fans can forget the malcontents and lazy asses that paraded on the Shea Stadium field back in the 90’s.  For all you so called Mets enthusiast who are calling for the Mets to deal Murph I have a better idea one that would make us both very happy, GO ROOT FOR ANOTHER TEAM!

GIMME SOMETHING OMAR, I’M DYING HERE

New day same old non Mets news except for a few interesting items:

Brooklyn Mets Fan is 100 % right on about the new Apple that is being constructed for $it Field. I love the Apple and I’m happy that a new one will be built and installed in the new house but why is it being built in MINNESOTA? So much for the promise of using local business for work at $iti Field.

Jeff Kent has called it a career so let me bid farewell to one of the biggest jerk offs to wear at Mets uniform. The times I had any contact with Kent at Shea he was just the most miserable nasty redneck  you could meet. As opposed to Wally Backman who is one of the nicest and most friendly rednecks you could meet. But Kent’s douchebaggery aside he will be in the Hall of Fame. I doubt he will have a Mets cap on his plaque though.

This reminds me I need to call my two brothers today to make sure we’re cool and all.

I’m a fan of the Chief (Freddy Garcia) and I’m glad it has come down to the Mets or Highlanders for his services but I hope he is not THE starting rotation piece that Omar feels is the missing link.

NO JEFF KENT, IT’S YOU THAT NEEDS TO SHUT HIS PIE HOLE

I enjoy listening to Vin Scully more now on Dodger telecast than I did when he was the voice of The Game of the Week and when ol’ Vin goes away there will never be another like him, so leave it up to one of the biggest ass hats to ever grace 126 Street and Roosevelt Ave to take Scully to task for “talking too much” when Scully stated the obvious when he stated that Kent is hitting better since Manny Ramirez joined the Hollywood Phonies at was slotted in the clean up spot with JK in the 3 hole.  I’m sure there is a large Dominican fellow in Boston who would second Vin Scully’s observation.

Kent has to know the consequences of taking on a icon like Scully. When Scully leaves this earth people will mourn, when Kent meets his demise people will wonder what took so long.

DEADLOCKED

Ahhhhhhhhh NOMAH, YOU ARE ONE MAGNIFICANT BASTARD!!!!!!

With all our problems with the bullpen here we are on August 14th in a tie for first place in the NL East. What a great night to be a Mets fan after a few night of agita. Gary and Mex were cracking wise on TV. Howie Rose and Wayne Hagin were serenading their listeners with TV Theme songs:

There’s a hold up in the Bronx,

Brooklyn’s broken out in fights.

There’s a traffic jam in Harlem

That’s backed up to Jackson Heights.

There’s a scout troop short a child,

Kruschev’s due at Idlewild

Car 54, Where Are You?

Ah life is grand in Metsville, at least for a day

I went to bed in the 6th inning of the Phillies-Dodgers last night because it’s good to get at least 5 hours sleep before doing a 12 hour shift at work so I missed Jeff Kent (I never thought I’d ever root for Jeff Kent as he was one miserable son of a bitch when he was a Met) and of course Nomah‘s wining HR. Green tea all around compliments of St Joseph of Torre!

Gangster  (as opposed to Gangsta’) City Councilman Hiram Monserrate, tried to strong arm a hearing in Manhattan last night on the proposed take over by NYC of Willets Point’s Iron Triangle. Monserrate is one of the biggest phonies in a chamber that is full of half assed lawmakers but from reading the Daily News account Monserrate is just play acting as an outraged hack. In the piece former Queens Boro Pres. Claire Shulman says that Monserrate told her not to worry the plan will go forward but he has to make noise to show his constituents that he’s fighting for them when we all know he’s fighting for a bigger kick back most likely in a cushy job to support his fat ass when term limits drive him out of office. Not once does Monserrate talk about the illegal dumping by the poor defenseless junk yard and chop shop operators in the Iron Triangle nor does he talk about the thousands of jobs that will be open to the people of Corona, Flushing and Jackson Heights when the Skill Sets plan for a hotel, shops and restaurants goes through. In fact I’ll get off Monserrates back when he gets the business owners of the Iron Triangle to pay all the fines they owe the city which is why a court will eventually allow the city to take over the properties via eminent domain.

Good news that Mike Piazza will be a guest during the last weekend of Shea. The Mets have done a piss poor job this year with honoring players and characters from the past 45 years of Shea’s excsistenace. How in the world can you not bring back old favorites like Banner Day, Senior Citizens Day and even working a deal with any local dairy to bring back milk cupons for tickets sweepstakes? We all know the rich and famous of Mets history but how about bringing back guys like JC Martin, Duffy Dyer, Willie Montanez, Al Weis, Pete Falcone, Ken Boswell, Teddy Martinez and the family of the Late Danny Frisella. That’s what the Mets and being a Mets fan is all about those players who were never stars but they were ours. Name me another team with a George “The Stork” Theodore? If there was anyone in the Mets organization with an once of creativity and smarts they would have put a day like this together. How about a day of not sucky music over the awful PA system but just the melodies of Lady Jane Jarvis? I’m sure Miss Jane could lend out a few of her Greatest Hits for that. And how about some mention of our Grand Dame Joan Whitney Payson who without here there wouldn’t have be a New York Metropolitan Baseball Club, sure Bill Shea did all the leg work and God bless his soul for that but Madam Joan put up the dough. The Red Sox just had what they call a Futures Day at Fenway Park this weekend a good old fashion pay one price get two games doubleheader featuring two of their minor league teams in action, I don’t know about you but I would go to Shea to see the Bingo Mets and the NOLA Zephyrs play and as I said in previous post make it a Day at Shea with church bazaar/block party/festival atmosphere. Sorry for the run on paragraph kids but it kills me that there is so much potential to keep the fan base happy and involved but the origination of the team I love is run by a bunch of dumb asses and it frustrates the living shit out of me.
