POINTING THE FINGER

Com’on you really can’t be shocked that Jose Reyes is no longer a Met can you? I mean we’ve all been paying attention for the last year-year and a half right? Didn’t you watch the Mets last game of the season? As soon as Reyes took himself out of the game with a bunt single that all but sealed his batting crown you had to know he was right there an ex-Met. But of course as Mets fans (and NY sports fans) we have to point fingers so with let’s make sure we point the right fingers.

I’ll point two thumbs up to Sandy Alderson. Finally the Mets have an adult in charge that has the balls to make the right decision for what’s best for this franchise baseball wise. As I tweeted last night, Omar Minaya and Jeff Wilpon are the natural disasters who have ruined the Mets and Sandy Alderson and his staff is FEMA who have accessed the disaster which is the Mets organization from top to bottom and has put in a plan of attack to bring it back to where it’s a contender in the NL.  This will take time as most clean ups and rebuilds after devastation seem to do.

Two middle fingers pointed at Freddy Skill Sets, Uncle Saul Katz and Uncle Buddy. No matter which side you fall on in the Reyes departure we can all agree that these stumbblin’,bummblin’ asshats need to sell the team and sell it NOW! But they won’t because they have Uncle Bud sitting in the Commissioners chair who is nothing but an enabler to the problems in Flushing. No way in hell that Bowie Kuhn, Peter Uberoff or Fay Vincent would have put up this this destruction of the NY NL franchise. Right now I would say the Wilpon’s are the worst owners in the history of New York sports. Worse than Walter O’Malley, worse than Horace Stoneham, worse than even Jim Dolan. The Skill Sets are worse because they are holding on to the team for selfish reasons for their own personal pleasure. In their heart of black hearts they know they days as Mets owners are numbered as the debt just keeps piling up (if I had the dough I’d rent a billboard off the Grand Central with a debt clock like the one on 34 St that tracks the National debt to track the Wilpon’s debt on the Mets, Citi Field and SNY) if it weren’t for the cozy comforts of the Bud Selig’s Commissioners abode the Skill Sets would have been out on their broke ass a while. It’s going to happen sooner or later as Selig won’t stay in office too much longer and the banks and other lenders will be calling in their markers soon as will the Federal Court that will hear the law suit by the Trustees trying to recoup the Madoff loses and of course the shysters looking to be paid for their time and trouble.  You are living on borrowed time Skill Sets.

One thumb up for Jose Reyes. You were one the best and most popular Mets players of all time. Having met you on a couple of occasions I thought you were a great guy, full of energy and you seemed to really enjoy being a Met and a New Yorker. I’m happy for you and your family that you are all set for life financially; I wish you all the best and success in South Beach

One thumb down for Jose Reyes. I’m not torn up that your leaving the Mets, I know I should be but in a strange way I’m glad you’re gone. In another administration you would have been given 10 years and $200 mil in Madoff Bucks, then you’d have been out of shape and pulling hammy’s like Turkish taffy. You waited for the Mets to make you an offer but your agents forgot that Omar doesn’t live here anymore and were told by Sandy Alderson, “make you an offer”? No, how about you go out and find what the market is then call me back” Guess what? There was only one bidder in the market. I’m sure Marlins President of Baseball Ops Larry Beinfest was overruled by Jeffery Loria and David Samson on this signing. The Marlins pulled a MInaya, bidding against themselves. Give Reyes agent Peter Greenberg credit for getting his client this deal as no other team would come close to offering it to Reyes.

Two big middle fingers, a crotch grab and drop my draws kiss my Royal Irish Ass to the Mets beat writers who no matter how this went down would kill the Mets. They all had two stored away on their laptops one for when the Mets sign Reyes to a long term deal so they could kill them for over paying in money and years and the stories we see today, killing them for not signing Reyes. It goes back to the organization allowing itself to get bullied by the media and never striking back. I’ll give props to the Late Leader of the Bronx Bastards, he knew how to get back at the press, take away their free food, fucking freeloaders.

Ten fingers waving bye-bye to all the fair weather Mets fans who say they won’t go to Citi Field again and won’t watch the games on TV and on and on. How people spend their money and time is their own business and if you don’t want anything to do with the Mets that’s fine. We won’t miss you guys anyway.

SO THE SKILL SETS DO HAVE MONEY PROBLEMS………….

The company line out of Freddy, Jeffey and Uncle Saul has been, this situation with the Madoff swiddle DOES NOT EFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE NY METS, well that seems to be an untruth or as a we say in Brooklyn a bunch of bullshit.

The Skill Sets announced today that they are looking to add a “strategic partner” a/k/a deep pocket investor, to take a minority share of the ball club. The reason they need to raise cash fast (I guess Cash 4 Gold couldn’t cut it for the Skill Sets) and the only asset they have that would bring them the coin they need is the Mets. So much for the bullshit that was thrown at Mets fans that the New York Mets baseball team will not be effected by the Madoff heist.

Not only is Sterling Equities the subject of lawsuits but the Wilpons are now talking abour personal law suits that will be brought against them. Who knows what will come out in these court cases about what the Wilpon’s knew and when they knew it?

In my uneduated opinion, this looks to be the start of the Fall of the Skill Sets Empire. I’m sure as soon as this news broke, Jim Dolan got on the horn to make his offer.  I don’t know the what the details of the Mets/Wilpon ownership share is with SNY but Dolan would love to his hooks on SNY and fold it into MSG network and have the Mets as his much needed summer programing.

The Skill Sets will have no shortage of suitors to get on board but it could come with a price more than money. I’m sure there will be a right of first refusal clause in any deal and I’m sure there will be a sign off on any contracts or deals that the next investor would want. So whoever becomes the new Skill Sets partner has them by the balls. Who knows how much it will cost in legal fees and payouts to settle this Madoff mess?  This could be the first step in having new ownership for the NY Mets.

YO’ METS FAN, SEE THE KNICKS? THAT COULD BE US SOON!

Most times when the Boston Celtics hit the city, I make it my duty to go see my favorite basketball team in person. During the last decade, securing a ticket to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden was as cheap and easy as a Hunts Point hooker. That has now changed.

I went looking for a couple of tickets for last Wednesday’s Knicks-C’s tilt at MSG and the best I could find were blue seats for a hundred or a hundred and a quarter. That’s what I’d spend for two games plus a couple of hot dogs and a beverage. What the hell happen?  Winning and exciting basketball by the NY Knickerbockers is what’s happened.

Yesterday in NYC the talk around town was all Knicks, Knicks and Knicks. The last time I can remember the Knicks being this relevant I was fighting my wife for use of the blow dryer, quite a while ago.  It’s not just that the Knicks sucked or that they were run by a complete asshole or that owner was fucking clueless (sound familiar Mets fans?) the team was run so bad, the fan base gave up on them and if you are of a certain age and grew up in NYC in the 60’ and 70’s you know basketball was THE game .  Tickets to Knick games were scarce.  A night at a Knicks game and being welcomed by the voice of John F.X. Condon (Welcome to The World’s Most Famous Arena) was electric. All that was lost, but now it looks like it’s been found again.

I bring the Knicks up today because the Mets are where the basketball team was before new management took over. When Donnie Walsh of the Bronx came home to rescue the premier basketball franchise in the NBA, he inherited a total mess. Same as Sandy Alderson has with the Mets. The Knicks have been saddled with over priced players who couldn’t care less if they won or lost as long as Jim Dolan signed off on the payroll. Same as the Mets. The GM of the Knicks was a cluessless, sexual harassing douche bag. Just like what the Mets had. The Dolan family along with the board of directors of Cablevision, the parent company of MSG stepped in and told Jimmy Dolan stay the fuck out of the basketball business, just like it seems the Skill Sets family has told Jeffey.

First thing Donnie Walsh did was try to rid the organization of bad players and bad contracts. Walsh did something that most deemed impossible, he brought the Knicks payroll under the cap and out of luxury tax hell.  He then put together a staff from head coach to assistants to scouts then used the draft well and signed players of talent and character  like Amare Stodumire. Stodumire is THE face of the Knicks and after one month of playing for the team, he hated what he saw and called his team out in public:

“I’m not sure if it’s the fact maybe a winning mentality has never been here. I’m just not used to it. I’m used to winning. I’m used to talking about winning and having that confidence toward winning. You just can’t have guys complacent and comfortable with losing.”

“I don’t understand why we’re not playing with the urgency. I’m not used to that. We’re not playing like we’re on a four-game losing streak, now five. We don’t have that sense of urgency. It’s almost as if it doesn’t matter.”

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Do they make one of these in a baseball player? If they do, Sandy Alderson needs to get us one.

Now that the Knicks are playing not only good basketball but exciting basketball and have a player in Stoudemire who has stepped up to lead on and off the court and has reached one name status in the city. AMARE. Because of this the ugly element of the NYC fan base has raised hi ugly head, The Band Waggoner.  You know who they are, the most clueless and insecure people this city has to offer.  You go to a party and in passing conversation you ask if they are a Mets fan or Yankee fan or Jets or Giants fan and they reply “I’m a New York Fan” which my ears interpret as “I’m an asshole”.  That’s when I excuse myself find my wife and tell her  “I’ll meet you in the car, 15 minutes A.I.S (ass in seat)”

A splinter group of Mets fans are clamoring over Sandy Alderson not going out and throwing money at free agents. This group confesses to hate the NY Highlanders and all they stand for but they want the Mets to copy their plan. Why they don’t just grow some balls and move their allegiance to the Bronx Bastards, is a question you’d have to ask them. This group doesn’t get it that the Mets did make a big free agent signing this winter, they signed Alderson, J.P. Riccarrdi and Paul DePodesta to go out and bring this franchise back to its rightful place of prominence in NY sports.

Don’t take this as me saying Alderson will part Flushing Bay or will put his hand on Ollie Perez’ left shoulder and turn him into Sandy Koufax, all I’m saying is he has run organizations before and he has been very successful, so let’s give his way a chance before you scream and yell about not buying tickets or Mets merchandise. If that’s the way you want to roll that’s fine but remember I know who you are, you’re the same the person walking around the city in that brand spanking new Knicks jacket and hat and the big foam KNICKS #1 on your finger.  How do you people live with yourselves? You disgust me.
