Before I Run Out The Door…………….

I really have no time to put up a decent post as I have to be out and at the ball park for a practice in about 20 mins and then for there it’s a quick shower and off to college hunting for my son but I have to say a few things about the events of last night.

It sucks that the hockey season is over but after a couple of hours of reflection and I have to say I have never been as proud of a Rangers team than I have of this years squad and makes it even better is the core of the team is young and getting better and better. Ryan Callahan Ryan McDonagh Dan Girardi Carl Haglin and the next superstar in NY Chris Kreider give myself and all Ranger fans hope that this team will contend and win a Stanley Cup(s?) for years to come.

Thank you Rangers, Coach Tortorella and all my fellow Rangers fans for one of the best season ever.

Here we are at the Memorial Day weekend and our Metsies are a mere 2.5 games out of 1st place in a suddenly crabs ass tight NL East.  Johan goes today and the Dickster tomorrow, Jenry Mejia and Chris Young are progressing, Ike Davis seems to be responding to the organization vote  of confidence and like the NY Rangers, rooting for the Mets is fun again.

Gotta run I have fungo’s to hit and colleges to visit LET’S GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WEDNESDAY METS-CELLANIE

Time for some Metscellaneous:

I thought Terry Collins struck the right cord with his State of the Team address yesterday, why strive for mediocrity and why put that type of thinking in his players heads. Collins has to make this team believe they can play with any team in baseball, that’s his job and his players have to know that they are being held accountable.

All I know about Johan Santana status so far is what I read from the folks in St. Lonesome covering the team, and it’s great that TC feels Santana will be his opening day starter but I’ll stick with my Memorial Day weekend target date for Santana.

Ruben Tejada will report to camp by Saturday, he would have been in camp already but he had visa problems. Every year there is always a player (Ronnie Paulino last year) who has issues with their papers to play baseball in this country. You would think this would be #1 on their to do list in the off season.

Charlie Samuels is an A-1 scumbag who got off rather easy from ripping off the Mets for the years he did. Samuels was fined and given probation but no jail time for stealing Mets uniforms and other items that he got autographed and held on to, to supplement his retirement fund, plus he has to make financial restitution to the Mets, and the State and City of New York. Samuels worked for the Mets for 34 years which means he started back in the Payson/DeRoulet era and now is banned from Citi Field, MCU Park and Digital Domain Park as well.  Good riddance Charlie, and shove those black jerseys and caps up your arse.

The Mets are one of the teams that Scott Kazmir has on his list of teams he’d like to sign with. Sorry Scott your ship has sailed and we have no place for an Oliver Perez wanna be.

Check out this outstanding job by Rob Castellano putting together Mets Jeopardy

CHILL-AX METS FANS

Have you come off the ledge? Good. If Mets fans are going to react to every game this season like they have over last night’s season opener, there will be a shortage of nitroglycerin pills in NYC hospitals by June.

Sure it sucks to lose on opening day (night?) and Big Pelf was far from good but some Mets fans are acting like the season just ended instead of just starting. Maybe it’s due to the Mets proficiency of winning on opening day or maybe it was the sheer dominance of Josh Johnson or maybe it’s that we are dying to root for a team that looks, acts and plays like a confident Major League Baseball team, but if you’re bringing a football mentality to this baseball season, you’ll get burned out by Memorial Day weekend. There’s going to be rough patches, and that’s when we’ll see what the team and the manager is made of. If I could give Terry Collins a bit of advice, don’t fall into that bad habit of saying the team how proud you are that the team played hard and never gave up, that’s not to be commended it’s to be expected. Collins did make a move that worked out nicely as Willie Harris 2 for 4 breaking up Josh Johnson no-no.

Big Pelf had a rough night; if that two seam doesn’t sink then he’s sunk.  Give Buck some credit on that at bat, he worked the count to his favor and proceeded to foul of pitch after pitch, not only seeing Pelf’s full arsenal of pitches but also frustrating Pelf to make that perfect out pitch, a sinking two seamer that Buck will either over swing at at strikeout or hit on the ground for tidy double play. Pelfrey came with the two seam but instead of breaking down and in it was up and away enough for Buck, who has power, to extend his arms and place the ball on row over the right field fence. As bad as that pitch was, it was the strength of John Buck that put it out of the park.

Pelfrey then fell into that lack of focus that he needs to get over if he is to be a top shelf pitcher as he let Omar Infante walk into second base with a stolen base in the 5th . That was followed by a Hanley Ramirez single which ended Pelf’s night.

REMEMBER WHAT THIS DAY MEANS

A very busy Memorial Day weekend continues, first it was a trip to the Staten Island Homeport for Fleet Week and a visit on the battleships in port, then yesterday it was chillin’ and grillin’ in the backyard and today my family is honored to march in the Staten Island Memorial Day parade as both my kids will be flag bearers and then off to another barbeque. How can anyone like winter over summer ? I dread heading to work tomorrow for the fact I have to wear real pants and a shirt, I could be extremely happy spending the rest of my life in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops.

Take time out of your busy weekend to give a thought about the brave men and women of our military who have put their lives on the line for us and for our country and if there is a parade in your area today try to get out to it and show your support for those who have given the supreme sacrifice.

I’m not happy with just one win in Milwaukee this weekend, if this Mets team would have gone 11-12 on the road, to go with that great home record of 19-9 that’s 30-21 overall just a shade under .600 ball and in 1st place in the NL East. Now it’s on to the 1st place SD Padres and their top ranked pitching staff, 2 out of 3 here for the Mets would be sweet.

At some point Jeffey Skill Sets has to have a sit down with Ollie Perez and Scott Boras to get Perez to go to Buffalo. I’m sure Perez’ teammates are not happy by his selfishness and me attitude but when the team comes back home this weekend, just the sight of Perez at the ballpark will set off an ugly reaction by the fans. Jerry Manuel said in so many words that it would take a disastrous situation before he calls Perez on the bullpen phone so really Ollie man up and go to Buffalo.

Fernando Tatis was in the lineup for Ike Davis yesterday and batted clean up. That’s worse that the other Manuel line up staple of whoever plays 2nd must bat 2nd.  Do any of the other coaches go to Jerry and say enough is enough with these ridiculous lineup he puts together ?

If my vote means anything I vote YES on brining Dontrelle Willis to the Mets.

There is nothing sadder than seeing a house without an American flag outside of it especially on a holiday like Memorial Day.
