Remember Memorial Day

Before we head out to the barbeques, beaches or ball games today, let’s take a moment to remember what this day stands for and not just a day off from work or school. Take a moment to reflect on our military heroes who  have given their lives and the families they’ve left behind.

We can debate the politics of war but we can not debate that war is hell and how much courage our men and women in the military posses.  God bless our fallen soldiers and their families and God bless the greatest country in the world, the United States of America.

VETERAN’S DAY 2011

Today is not only 11-11-11 it is also Veteran’s Day. So take the time today to thank a military veteran and just think about who should be paid more, an infantry solider or a Major League shortstop?

What would also be a nice gesture today is if all those inhabitants of Zucotti Park made their way to 5th Ave for NYC’s Veteran’s Day Parade to thank the men and women who put their lives on the line so they can enjoy the freedom to assemble and protest. It’s a two-way street you know.

REMEMBER THE DAY

Nothing Mets today, I’m off to the Memorial Day Parade on Staten Island, hopefully the euphoria of the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden hasn’t worn off yet and the good folks of SI will be out in full force to honor the men and women of the military who gave their lives for the country and to thank all who have served our country . All of them true patriots.

VETERANS DAY 2010

I had the privilege to march in the Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan today with a contingent from the Greater NYC Boy Scouts of America. We carried 75 flags up 5th Avenue from 28 st to 53 st. I had the honor of carrying the flag of the Purple Heart honorees.

We got to meet some great men and women who served this country in WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and in the Gulf. A very uplifting day.

Back to baseball tomorrow.
