HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

Just would like to take the time to wish you all and Happy and Healthy New Year in 2012. I hope we can get back to some important Mets on the field news in the coming weeks but for now I’m watching Sunderland try to pull off a second stunner in the EPL this weekend (Man U’s loss to Blackburn Rovers a SHOCKER! but good for Blackburn’ under fire manager Steve Kean, us Steve Kean(e)’s got to stick together) trying to beat Man City while waiting for the big Giants-Cowgirls game tonight and then the Rangers-Flyers tomorrow in the Winter Classics. In between that we have a couple of invites from friends so I’ve told my wife to coordinate this as one sitting for the 1PM games and the other for the 4 PM games.

For the Giants-Cowgirls I have to be here at the Kranepool Society World Headquarters and not a neutral site.

I also informed  my family if they ever trot me out that way Dick Clark has been put on display the last few New Years Eve’s since his stroke, I will haunt then for eternity. I wish Clark’s family would stop ruining his legacy and his dignity like this every year.

METS PITCHING STAFF, ADD 2 SUBTRACT 1

The Mets announced this evening that they have signed LHP Chris Capuano and RHP Taylor Buchholz to 1 year contracts, and to make room on the 40 man roster they have released P Ryota Igarashi.

Cutting Igarashi is a surprised but adding Capuano and Buchholz, who both battle arm problems (Capuano is a two-time Tommy John surgery patient)  both fall under the low risk/high reward mantle.

Capuano will most likely compete for the 4/5 spot in the rotation. If (and it’s a big if) Capuano is of sound shoulder and body, he could be this years version of R.A. Dickey. Capuano did show some increase in velocity last season when he joined the Brewers after rehab assignment but he is not a power pitcher. His best pitch is his change and he incorporates a cutter as well.  When he’s on his game, Capuano will induce more ground balls than fly balls.

Buchholz is also a Tommy John-er with his surgery coming in 2009. Buchholz is a fly ball pitcher which fits very nicely in Citi Field.

So with the new year under way two low cost gambles by Sandy Alderson have arrived. I like the Capuano signing alot. Of course everything with Cap hinges on his arm being sound and if it is ,this move could pay off handsomely for Alderson. As for Buchholz, I’ll wait and see .

2010 OVER AND OUT

As if there is not enough snow here on Staten Island, my family has decided it would be good idea to go upstate NY for New Years Eve and the weekend to snow board and ski, two activity’s I will not be involved in. So I don’t know how much access I’ll have to a wi-fi hot spot so I’d like to wish everyone you comes to this site a very Happy New Year and more importantly an healthy and safe New Year.

I’m so glad that when I turned on the news this morning, that Times Square is clear of snow and that the million or so people can now enjoy standing in a area blocked off by NYPD barricades for the next 12-14 hours to watch a ball drop from a building.  As a life long New Yorker it stuns the shit out of me that people come from all over the world to do this. Once your in those pens, you can’t leave even to go to the bathroom. If you have a real bathroom emergency you have to hope there is a sympathetic cop guarding your holding pen to let you out to find a bathroom.

If you can’t make it to Times Square, you can always stop off downtown at the NYPD’s central booking station by the courts and have the same experience as those revelers in Times Square.

GREETINGS FROM BEHIND ENEMY LINES

So my wife talked me into go to Lancaster PA for New Years Eve so as soon as we pull into the resort I know I’m in for a long weekend.

First probelm, half of Staten Island is here. I’ve been stopped in the lobby about 5 times since geting here by people saying “Don’t I know you from so place” ? I didn’t gome 160 miles to hang out with my felow Staten Islanders, that’s what the SI Ferry is for.

The problem is most of them are Highlander fans and they folks here who are not Highlander fans are Phuck Phace fans. Of course I’m decked out in my Mets best threads, Sweatshirt, jacket, and my classic blue New Era cap.

After tossing out insults to me both sets of fans say to me “”I don’t know if you heard, but the Mets signed Jason Bay” No really? Then I go into  Moe Green mode “Do you know you I am”? at that point my family runs away from me.

I want to wish all of tou who comes to sight each day a happy and healthy New Year and just to let you know how appreciative I am that you folks come here each day not just read my posts but leave such great comments. Agian thany you guys so much.

Hopfully   I survive this weekend and I’ll be back here Saturday
