I’ve been reading some of the L.A. Times stories on the takeover of the Dodgers by MLB and The Nutty Professor looking to name a trustee to run the ball club. Selig will name someone who will oversee the daily operations of the team and any and all moves from finance to movement of players will be handled by this caretaker until a new owner can be found. Reading some of the stories, it is astounding how Frank McCourt and his nit-wit soon to be ex-wife, have run the Dodgers into the ground, basically stealing money from the team to pay for their lavish lifestyle while Dodger Stadium has turned into a crime infested slum. You could call the McCourt’s White Trash from Beverley Hills or shanty Irish both names fit them like a Guci glove. But so what about the Dodgers? They left Brooklyn over 53 years ago so payback is a Jamie McCourt. Fuck’em. The question here is, how does this affect the NY Mets?

It looks like the Mets have already been taken care of by Bud Selig, by having Sandy Alderson running the baseball operation.  In my view, Sandy Alderson is the trustee assigned by Bud Selig to run the Mets.  A tid bit I’ve heard about Alderson’s gallop into Queens goes back to last season when everyone knew that Omar and Manuel were dead men walking, the reason neither man was canned during the wretched month of September when the team already had rigor mortis set in the plan to bring Alderson in was in place. As we know with MLB there is always a dog and pony show when it comes to hiring. While most owners want to hire the best white male available to manager their team, they know they must first interview a minority before they can do that, so the case with the Mets new GM was no different. Bring in a bunch of candidates who have no shot at the job but let them get some valuable face time in the New York press which would boost their standing around baseball so they could find a job in a lesser market. The job of saving the Mets had to go to someone with a proven track record and strong enough to pinch Jeffey Skill Sets nose  with one hand and slap it with the other, who better than the Ivy League graduated former U.S. Marine and Viet Nam vet, Sandy Alderson.

This theory was always speculated but never proven but as we see with the Dodger bail out it all makes sense that Bud the Commissioner would take care of his Bud, Freddy the Skill Set before anyone else.

Alderson not only took the job, he hired his two favorite assistants in J.P. Riccardi and Paul DePodesta as well a nice package deal.

What has been great about the new management so far is since the day that Freddy Skill Sets put on his babushka at St. Lucie to cry for understanding that he is not a thief but a victim of Madoff malfeasants and Jeffey spoke about his daddy and Uncle Saul be great men of baseball and business, we have not heard a peep out of them. Even Dave the Shyster has taken to a vow of silence especially after his “tickets are going like Gangbuster’s” quote.

We saw the eradication of Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez both Alderson executions. Blaine Boyer out after a week. Brad Emaus, thrown overboard, it doesn’t look like Alderson needed anyone’s permission to make these moves. As for adding on payroll, that is not something that looks like it needs to be discussed this season, in fact give this trip to the baseball abyss another month and Gary Cohen’ signature ‘It’s Outta Here” call will be of Mets players become former Mets players and not home runs.

As much as this run of bad baseball has been a sore sight for our eyes, at least we know the Skill Sets are in the background and hopefully never heard from again until the announcement that they have sold the majority of the NY Mets.

I come here today to defend Jerry Manuel and his decision to let Fernando Tatis hit away in the 8th inning yesterday. Technically you J-Man killers are right that is a sacrifice situation but I want you to step back and take a deep breath and think about the old saying sometimes you have to lose a battle to win the war.

I agree with what John Harper wrote today and with Keith Hernandez who said on the air that as much as the bunt was in order he understood why J-Man let Tatis swing away. What I couldn’t believe was the nasty narrow thinking of Mets fans that I heard on WFAN afterwards with some nit wit who refers to himself as Adam the Bull, another in that stable of mediocrity that FAN calls “talent”  killing Manuel for the sake of staying on the good side of the yahoo faction of Metsfandom.

Before you take Manuel to task remember this. Last year Tatis was one of the best Mets hitters in clutch situation and his timely bat was sorely missed down the stretch when he blew out his shoulder. Tatis was one of the few success stories on the ‘07 team and was rewarded with the Comeback Player of the Year Award. He then went from a steady platoon outfielder to a player buried waiting for his number to get called. Yesterday it was called as he played 2nd base a spot he’s played twice in his career. Tatis is a pro and a dream for a manager. You know he’s is burning to play but he won’t rock boat, the definition of a team guy. So J-Man has to show Tatis that he is still the player he thinks he is so being that its April and the team has had a problem early hitting in the clutch what better way to show faith in a player and reinforce the thinking that he can still do it.

If Taits gets a hit there J-Man looks like a genius but not only didn’t Tatis get a hit he struck out badly bringing out all the John McGraw’ on AM radio and that’s fine let them have their day but when Tatis comes up in a big spot against the Phillies and delivers it will be Tatis and Manuel turn to gloat.

After doing as good a job as you can expect yesterday, Nelson Figueroa was DFA and most likely headed to Anaheim and he might be joined by Darren O’Day also DFA but he must be offered back to the Angels for $25K. If both Figueroa and O’ Day end up in SOCAL for nothing in return then Omar Minaya deserves all the criticism he will get.

So now Casey Fossum comes up for the sloe reason the he can throw a baseball with his left arm. Anyone see Tim Redding?

http://www.kranepoolsociety.com/2009/04/20/the-he-man-mets-haters-club/

I spent the morning at the Staten Island Ice Pavilion watching my daughter ice skate. I was really enjoying myself  watching her glide along the ice and my XL Dunkin Donuts coffee and drifting off into thoughts of what will happen next week at the Winter Meetings especially since I will be joining Joe McDonald starting Monday night at 9PM EST on Pro Baseball Central with live reports from Las Vegas. I’m trying to tell myself that Francisco Rodriguez is the missing piece to the pen. But then I contradict myself with thoughts of Kerry Wood closing and then passing the torch to Eddie Kunz, Bobby Parnell or Bradley Holt. I drift off in the thought of Omar Minaya pulling a deal that no one saw coming like this nutty one I read this morning. I even day dreamed of D-Wright working out with a mind set of leading his team to the post season and an MVP award. It felt sooooo good to think good baseball thoughts that I could see and feel myself in my Mr. Met t-shirt, shorts and flip flops on a beautiful 80 degree Saturday waiting on line at the Shake Shack stand at $iti Field Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh But of course someone has to drop a turd in my punch bowl.

As soon as I heard “Well we’ll sign C.C  then Burnett and Texiera and that will put us back where we belong” Ughhhhhhhhhhh Highlander fans. Can’t a man enjoy a Saturday morning without these blow hards? Then blow hards buddy Nit Wit chimes in “Yeah and wit Joba and Wang we’s will have da best rotation in baseball because we is da Yankees ya know” and they both laugh like retards. Now I try to ignore them and just chill with my java but of course they can’t leave well enough alone. “We ain’t like dem looosers da Mets” says Blow Hard to which Nit Wit replies “Uhhhhhhhh Da Mets suck”

Now my morning is ruined. I’m ready to get my daughter to go find their daughters and do a Tonya Harding on their ass but then I decide to do my own dirty work. I pull my Mets cap a little more down in the front and turn to them and say “If I were you guys I’d worry more about the Red Sox and Rays than the Mets, since you can’t beat either of them” They see the Mets cap and reply to me how the Mets choked and how they are losers and yada, yada yada. I answer them the best way I could. I told these jokers that at least Mets fan realize their team’s flaws and are intelligent enough to look over the possibilities available to them to fix their problems and go back and forth with each other unlike Highlander fans who just say “buy whoever is out there”

Both dopes knew nothing about the teams farm system other then they both thought Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy should be traded and that Joba will win the Cy Young. After I heard that I was thankful my daughters lesson was over and we could leave and I did with a good feeling knowing that it’s good to be a Mets fan.
