DAIVD WRIGHT AND BIG APPLE TOURS

The Den of Thieves (A/K/A NYC City Council) votes today on the re-development of Willets Point so lets see if rats and chop shops win over jobs, housing and progress.

D-Wright says he will bang the Mets tom-tom for the franchise to any free agent looking to join the club. D-Wright is a true blue Met but I get a bit queasy when you have to recruit guys to join your team especially when you are a NYC team. The Mets will have no shortage of sutiors some with real interest in join the team others who are looking to up their ante with other clubs, and one of Omar Minaya’s strong suits is his street smarts to know how to separate the phonies from the players who have a real interest in being Mets.

The closer contest looks to be very interesting as the Mets will start there it seems on the road to revamp the ballclub. It looks like the shopping list will go in order, closer/relievers, starting pitchers (2), catcher, outfield bat.

Newsday states that the Mets are now looking at Bobby Jenks. My consultants check is in the mail I hope.

Jake Peavy to the Braves looks like a done deal and that puts a little extra pressure on the Mets to strengthen the pitching staff and it also helps CC Sabathia get even more of the Steinbrenner millions.

Hops Weiss has a very good column on the state of college basketball here in the NYC area.  None of the area Divsion I teams are predicted to do much this season or be a factor come tournament time. Wiess lays out how college hoops used to be when St Johns ruled the roost.

ELECTION NIGHT RECAP-SORRY NO METS NEWS HERE

Besides having to run some early morning errands, the events of last night’s election still has me in it’s grip as I read the stories and watch the pundits talk about the historic night. I know I get myself  in some hot water when I go on a political rant here but I’ll just say this. Yes I am very happy with the Obama win and I am extremely proud of my fellow citizens for coming out in record numbers to vote. I am also touched by the very eloquent speech that John McCain made during his concession. This was not an election where you could say you despise the other candidate as I have the utmost respect for Senator McCain for his duty and sacrifice he has given to the country. I will say that he does stand out as a true patriot in a party full of phonies and it was the two-bit chicken hawks in the Republican and Conservative Parties that did him in in his run for the Presidency. McCain is a much better man and American than the Cheney’s Rowe’s and the repulsive duo of Sean Hanattiy and Rush Limbaugh of the Right Wing World.

When the Iraqi War was first waged and we found out that the government lied to us and the Congress I wanted to know where were the young people of the nation and why weren’t they venting their outrage to this war. Well, I guess they waited for the next election as the 18-25 year olds came out like never before and that to me was the greatest legacy of the election that young people of this country ,the folks who will be making policy in the future, embraced the Obama candidacy and worked hard to get him elected. Bravo to you.

Again we showed the world why we are the Super Power of the Earth. Not just because we have the best weapons and the bravest soldiers but because we have the most intelligence, heart and compassion than any other country in the world. For some strange reason while watching the 270 electoral votes go up on the screen and seeing people in Times Square and Grant Park hugging and crying and celebrating I thought about September 11 2001. Sometimes I feel I think about that day too much but it’s a day I’ll never forget and  Ground Zero is so close to my office so I’m reminded every day but I just thought how on that day we Americans were stunned, shocked and devastated by what happened and then last  night watching President-Elect Obama make his acceptance speech and telling us that he will do what he can but he needs the American people to help him it looks as if the country is back on track and headed in the right direction.

I know a lot of you were not Obama supporters but please take the words of John McCain to heart when he said no matter who you backed in this election we are all Americans and we have to do what’s right for America. The rest of the world is celebrating as well, America is Back, Better Than Ever!

NO JEFF KENT, IT’S YOU THAT NEEDS TO SHUT HIS PIE HOLE

I enjoy listening to Vin Scully more now on Dodger telecast than I did when he was the voice of The Game of the Week and when ol’ Vin goes away there will never be another like him, so leave it up to one of the biggest ass hats to ever grace 126 Street and Roosevelt Ave to take Scully to task for “talking too much” when Scully stated the obvious when he stated that Kent is hitting better since Manny Ramirez joined the Hollywood Phonies at was slotted in the clean up spot with JK in the 3 hole.  I’m sure there is a large Dominican fellow in Boston who would second Vin Scully’s observation.

Kent has to know the consequences of taking on a icon like Scully. When Scully leaves this earth people will mourn, when Kent meets his demise people will wonder what took so long.

DEADLOCKED

Ahhhhhhhhh NOMAH, YOU ARE ONE MAGNIFICANT BASTARD!!!!!!

With all our problems with the bullpen here we are on August 14th in a tie for first place in the NL East. What a great night to be a Mets fan after a few night of agita. Gary and Mex were cracking wise on TV. Howie Rose and Wayne Hagin were serenading their listeners with TV Theme songs:

There’s a hold up in the Bronx,

Brooklyn’s broken out in fights.

There’s a traffic jam in Harlem

That’s backed up to Jackson Heights.

There’s a scout troop short a child,

Kruschev’s due at Idlewild

Car 54, Where Are You?

Ah life is grand in Metsville, at least for a day

I went to bed in the 6th inning of the Phillies-Dodgers last night because it’s good to get at least 5 hours sleep before doing a 12 hour shift at work so I missed Jeff Kent (I never thought I’d ever root for Jeff Kent as he was one miserable son of a bitch when he was a Met) and of course Nomah‘s wining HR. Green tea all around compliments of St Joseph of Torre!

Gangster  (as opposed to Gangsta’) City Councilman Hiram Monserrate, tried to strong arm a hearing in Manhattan last night on the proposed take over by NYC of Willets Point’s Iron Triangle. Monserrate is one of the biggest phonies in a chamber that is full of half assed lawmakers but from reading the Daily News account Monserrate is just play acting as an outraged hack. In the piece former Queens Boro Pres. Claire Shulman says that Monserrate told her not to worry the plan will go forward but he has to make noise to show his constituents that he’s fighting for them when we all know he’s fighting for a bigger kick back most likely in a cushy job to support his fat ass when term limits drive him out of office. Not once does Monserrate talk about the illegal dumping by the poor defenseless junk yard and chop shop operators in the Iron Triangle nor does he talk about the thousands of jobs that will be open to the people of Corona, Flushing and Jackson Heights when the Skill Sets plan for a hotel, shops and restaurants goes through. In fact I’ll get off Monserrates back when he gets the business owners of the Iron Triangle to pay all the fines they owe the city which is why a court will eventually allow the city to take over the properties via eminent domain.

Good news that Mike Piazza will be a guest during the last weekend of Shea. The Mets have done a piss poor job this year with honoring players and characters from the past 45 years of Shea’s excsistenace. How in the world can you not bring back old favorites like Banner Day, Senior Citizens Day and even working a deal with any local dairy to bring back milk cupons for tickets sweepstakes? We all know the rich and famous of Mets history but how about bringing back guys like JC Martin, Duffy Dyer, Willie Montanez, Al Weis, Pete Falcone, Ken Boswell, Teddy Martinez and the family of the Late Danny Frisella. That’s what the Mets and being a Mets fan is all about those players who were never stars but they were ours. Name me another team with a George “The Stork” Theodore? If there was anyone in the Mets organization with an once of creativity and smarts they would have put a day like this together. How about a day of not sucky music over the awful PA system but just the melodies of Lady Jane Jarvis? I’m sure Miss Jane could lend out a few of her Greatest Hits for that. And how about some mention of our Grand Dame Joan Whitney Payson who without here there wouldn’t have be a New York Metropolitan Baseball Club, sure Bill Shea did all the leg work and God bless his soul for that but Madam Joan put up the dough. The Red Sox just had what they call a Futures Day at Fenway Park this weekend a good old fashion pay one price get two games doubleheader featuring two of their minor league teams in action, I don’t know about you but I would go to Shea to see the Bingo Mets and the NOLA Zephyrs play and as I said in previous post make it a Day at Shea with church bazaar/block party/festival atmosphere. Sorry for the run on paragraph kids but it kills me that there is so much potential to keep the fan base happy and involved but the origination of the team I love is run by a bunch of dumb asses and it frustrates the living shit out of me.
