WRIGHT TO ANGELS HAS MY INTEREST

I haven’t had time to post either yesterday or today so before I head out the door for a full day of football and the evening at MSG for Rangers-Jets, let me just make a quick comment on Joel Sherman’s story on the Mets talking about dealing David Wright to the Angels for Peter Bourjos and one or two pitching prospects.

If Sandy Alderson can pull that deal off it’s a steal for the Mets. Again, again, again this is NOT an anti-Wright sentiment it’s just the realization that Jose Reyes isn’t coming back and this organization is in need of a through rebuilding program and Alderson seems the feel that way as well.

Oh and don’t think that the quotes from a “Mets front office person” is a leak, it’s more of a well placed mole getting the front offices’ message out without getting dirty.

WALK LIKE A MAN/TALK LIKE A MAN………..

Every story you read about Fernando Martinez focuses on his potential. Since he signed with the Mets at the age of 16, we heard about the great potential that this young man has. He has the potential to hit for power, run like the wind, hit for average, tons and tons of potential. Well you know what potential means? It means you haven’t done a damn thing yet. You could do some great things or you may be another in a long  line of Mets prospects on the junk heap.

Ina story on MLB.com, Jesse Sanchez talks to F-Mart about his play so far the winter, where he is currently playing for the Dominican Republic rep Escogido where after  a slow start, Martinez has played well.  I thought that this quote though was a little too cocky for a guy who still has a lot to prove:

“I know I’m a big league player, and I can perform at a high level,” Martinez said. “It’s in my hands, so I have to keep working hard and maybe earn a spot. Maybe I make it to the big leagues with the Mets or maybe another team, but I know I can do it. I just have to keep working and waiting for my opportunity.”

I want to like this kid and I would love to see him finally live up to the hype and come back to the Mets and make a big contribution to the team’s future. But the bottom line is, this season is make or break for him, a young man of 20 years old just cannot keep breaking down the way he does. At first I thought that he was so young and the strain on his body of playing professional baseball and the natural progression of his physical growth were colliding and causing his injuries but I am starting to think it may be more a lack of dedication to the craft that has caused him not to be a hard worker or take the time to train and be physically fit.

Martinez claims he is a big leaguer and he knows he needs to work hard to get back to major leagues but as we’ve seen with the four years he has been in the organization, talk is cheap.

COLLAPSE COMES EARLY THIS SEASON

Looks like I’m not missing much Manny was booed, the Mets can’t hit, another error and Fernando Tatis still gets to play everyday while Daniel Murphy sits and sits.

Looks as though the Mets will be sellers instead of buyers and that could be a good thing, as it may be best to sell vets for prospects and then come the off season a major re construction of the player personnel is in order.

Looks like the annual collapse came early this year and in the end that may be a good thing.

I get to leave the camp today so it’s off to Wal-Mart for some supply’s and a cup of Dunkin Dounuts coffee but the best part pf heading to the outside world of upstate NY is getting to see all them Cougars in their muffin tops spilling over their  too tight jeans YAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOO

EDDIE KUNZ SAYS: NO WORRIES MATE

Eddie Kunz has checked in from the AFL and puts a positive spin on his fall season and that of all the Mets prospects who’ve joined him:

{I have been pitching very well and making all my pitches work for me. Now I know the numbers are not shoiwing it but this is a league to work on things and get better so era and those things don’t matter that much at all. I am getting stronger and a better feel for my piitches as well which is nice. The rest of the mets on the team have been doing really good also. Murphy is still hitting the ball very well and getting alot better at 2nd base with his defense. Josh Thole is hitting alot better and still is doing a great job at catching. Bobby Parnell is still throwing the ball hard and getting people out, while working on things and getting better as a pitcher. Jason Vargas is also doing very well throwing all his pitches and keeping hitters off set and changing speeds, he gets stronger with every outting and looks great.}

I hope Eddie is right as he does seem very confident that what he’s working on in Arizona will help him come spring. The more you read about Jason Vargas the more you realize he is becoming a valuable part for the bullpen plan for 2009
