R.I.P. RONNIE JAMES DIO

Forget about the Mets for a moment and their 5th loss in a row the real loss today was the death of one the greatest voices in Heavy Metal, Ronnie James Dio passed away this morning after fighting stomach cancer at the age of 67.

One of the biggest debates amongst Headbangers  was when Dio replaced Ozzy Osbourne as front man for Black Sabbath. I was and still am a huge Ozzy fan and I’ve always felt that Dio replacing Ozzy was the Rock equivalent of Tom Galavine joining the Mets,  it just felt uncomfortable.

But Dio and Richie Blackmore joining forces as Rainbow was some of the best metal music ever

Rest in Peace to the Man on the Silver Mountain and the man who gave us one of the great vocals ever in Heaven and Hell

R.I.P. BARON MIKEL SCICLUNA

The ring bell tolls ten times in honor of Baron Mikel Sicluna who passed away at the age of 80. The most fascinating thing about BMS is he really was from Malta.  Rest in peace Baron

JANE JARVIS 1915-2010

Mets fans of a certain age are mourning the death of another Shea Stadium icon, Mets organist extraordinaire Jane Jarvis passed away yesterday at the age of 94 at the Llian Booth Actors Home in Engelwood NJ where she lived since 2008 when a crane accident displaced her from her Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan.

Ms. Jarvis had a slew of musical credits on her resume but to Mets fans she was the lady whose sweet tones of the Thomas organ filled our summer days and nights at Shea Stadium.

Rest in peace Sweet Lady Jane whenever I hear the Mexican Hat Dance I’ll think of you.

“HELLO, YOU HAVE REACHED THE SUICIDE HOT LINE. IF YOU ARE A METS FAN, WE’RE SORRY, REST IN PEACE”

I’m still numb from reading this last night via Jon Heyman:

Toronto’s request of the Mets for star pitcher Roy Halladay was for top outfield prospect Fernando Martinez, young pitchers Bobby Parnell and Jon Niese and shortstop prospect Ruben Tejada, sources tell SI.com.

The Mets responded with a resounding no.

I don’t know what is more stunning that J.P. Ricciardi would take a player plagued by so many injuries he has a handicap plate on his two wheeler, a dime a dozen reliever, a LHP who could be a back end starter maybe, and a teenager for one of the premier starting pitchers in all of baseball or that the Omar Minaya TURNED THIS DEAL DOWN!!!! Well Omar turning down the deal is not stunning in fact (that’s scary) but Ricciardi even offering that to the Mets? Does he hate being with the Blue Jays that much? Is there a secret pact with Minaya to hire Ricciardi as Tony B’s seat filler at $iti Field next year?

Ricciardi didn’t even ask for the best prospects the Mets own in Brad Holt, Wilmer Flores, or Jenrry Mejja.

Then after the reports of Minaya turning down this offer Omar holds a news conference during last night’s game that he and J-Man are safe and sound in their jobs.

I will now douse myself in gasoline and light my sorry ass on fire.

…………..AND THEN IT WAS GONE…………….

I had car issues and computer issues today so I’m not in any kind of mood to write but Joe McDonlad has a video of the last piece of Shea Stadium to bite the dust. Shea Stadium is no more. Let that swril around your brain for awhile. The Shea Stadium Era is done. Rest in Peace Shea.

Don’t for get tomorrow night PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL at 9PM EST with our guests Paul Coutinho  of ESPN1050 Radio and Martin Gandy of Talking-Chop.
