Freddy Says He’s Flush But are Mets Fans Buying It ?

Poor Freddy Skill Sets, whenever he speaks Mets fans shout “BULLSHIT”. Every spring, Freddy usually with his sidekick/brother in law Uncle Saul Katz, putz around on a golf cart and stop long enough to tell the main stream media that covers the Mets that everything surrounding the team is sunshine and fucking lollipops. This spring is no exception except for Freddy tag team partner Uncle Saul not in attendance.

There is nothing more side splitting funny than following along on my Twitter timeline when Freddy gives his State of the Mets Spring Speech. You know the old expression “If bullshit were electricity you’d be a powerhouse”? Well, if I had a buck for every time the word “bullshit” came up in Tweets on my timeline, I’d have enough money to buy a ML outfield and donate it to the Freddy’s club.

Freddy told the masses today at Port St. Lonesome that he and his family are flush with cash, thank you very much for asking. Between the real estate businesses and his stock holdings rebounding and the success of SNY (which puzzles the living shit out me because other than Mets games what the hell is there to watch on the network? Beer Money???? Loudmouths???? Suckitude TV) has helped the Skill Sets Empire to rise again. In fact, Freddy says that times are so good, we Mets fans could see the payroll rise to the heights it was at during the Minaya administration, when Ex-GM Omar Minaya was handing out overinflated contracts like he ran Haliburton. And to that the Mets fan base rises as one and replies “BULLSHIT”

Poor Freddy not matter how he tries to convince Mets fan that he has enough Dead Presidents to sign players that will make major contributions to his team and make Septembers in Flushing meaningful again, no one believes him. It’s got to suck to be Freddy.

Maybe Freddy is telling the truth, maybe there is cash to be spent. It seems the Mets were willing to give Michael Bourn 4 years and $48 million dollars to be a Met but when Bourn and his agent wanted that 5th year vested option that it seems would be easy to attain, Sandy Alderson pulled the plug on the negotiation leaving the Cleveland Indians to get bamboozled into give giving Bourn/Boras what they wanted. Can’t say I blame Alderson for not going 5 years on Bourn.

Alderson was very forthcoming with Pope Mikey I when he stated that they miscalculated on the dealing with Scott Hairston. It seems from listening to Alderson, Justin Upton was his number one target to trade for and he thought he had enough trade chips to make a deal but it seems Kevin Towers insisted on either Zack Wheeler or Matt Harvey as headliners in any deal for Upton, which of course killed that dialog. So Plan B was go after Bourn but that draft pick, slot money and vested option became a major road block and that went south as well. During all this Hairston signed with the Cubs and as Alderson said letting Hairston go wasn’t due to contract reasons but playing times issues as it seems the Mets GM was sure of landing either Upton or Bourn and instead he has neither.

Now for this next part, you will have to put on your Freddy Says Decoder Ring because I’m pretty sure Freddy is speaking on code or in tongues, I’m not sure:

“I think we would anticipate being big investors if that were appropriate,” Wilpon said. “That depends on what the market is. If the market is such that that’s where we have to be to be competitive and winners, yeah.

Let’s see the Mets need better players and since many of the better players in the organization are barely old enough to shave I’d say yeah to be competitive you will have to invested in some proven major league talent and that will cost money, but if Freddy is on the level, he claims he has the cash to make that dash.

“This is, to me, a breakeven business. I always strive to break even. I’m not looking to make any money. I strive to break even. So if [fans] don’t show up, that’s hard. So you have to balance it. We fed it pretty good the last five or six years. I think if the market was such, yes, the payroll could go up, but not to just have payroll go up so you can write headlines — if that, in fact, improves the team.

OK now this is Bullshit.  When did the New York Mets become a no-profit organization? What did you feed that last five or six years? Your attorney’s? CRG Partners to access the damage of the Madoff mess? Sure wasn’t invested in baseball players.

“I don’t know what the market will be at that point. But the payroll will be commensurate with anything we’ve ever done because we can do it. Remember, the people have to come to the ballpark obviously. If you have a competitive team, they will. Everything that was in the past, that you guys saw the pain that we went through, is gone. It’s gone.

Freddy, Freddy, Freddy there are only a few of us diehards left who support your team in good times and bad. You have lost a whole generation of fans to the Bronx Bastards. If you have the financial wherewithal you claim now would be a good time to show it off. The amount of diehard fans for any sports franchise in this town is much less than the bandwagon “I love a New York event “crowd. If what you are telling us is correct and you are ready to go back to being Big Bad Freddy and make an investment in quality Major League players that will have your team in contention for a pennant and GULP!!! A World Championship, Citi Field will be overflowing with customers on a nightly basis. Remember the 80”s Fred? Remember 3 million customers making the Shea Stadium turnstiles wiz like a carousel of cash ? Remember the television ratings that boosted a thrid rate TV station called SportsChannel into a must buy for FOX Sports? Break even? Freddy if you do this right and you are being honest with us, you and Uncle Saul will be farting through silk boxers my friend. JUST DON”T BULLSHIT US AGAIN!!!!!

Mets-cetra

As the equipment truck heads down I-95 towards St. Lonesome there is a few pieces of Mets information in the news today, so let’s take a look-see shall we?

According to the NY Post, Fred Wilpon and Uncle Saul Katz would like to build a casino on the soon to be re-developed Iron Triangle. Sometimes the jokes just write themselves.  The one think the Mets have going for them in this new scheme business venture is that Governor Cuomo is a proponent of having casinos in New York State but mostly he wants them upstate New York and not in the NYC limits. This reminds me of the time years ago the urban legend around Brooklyn was that Frank Sinatra was buying up a whole bunch of real estate because casino gambling was coming to Coney Island. Of course that never happened. Neither will Willets Point Casino. The part of the story that made me choke on my bagel was that the city has “handed” the Wilpon’s 23 acres of NYC real estate back in 2011 that they have turned into park spaces. Nice of the Bloomberg administration to be giving away land maybe folks in Staten Island, Rockaways and Breezy Point can get a nice gift like that.

Are the decision makers in the MLB Commissioners office on vacation or just asleep?   Can someone give a ruling on whether the Mets can have their 11th pick in the Entry Level draft protected or not so the club can get down to business and sign Michael Bourn. The Pirates are being reward for not doing their due diligence on Mark Appel  taking the RHP with the 8th pick in the last year draft and having the pitcher turn down $3.8 mil to go back for his senior season at Stanford.  It’s not just the draft pick that concerns the Mets it’s the slotting money that the club would lose that has them in the conundrum they’re in concerning Bourn.  Not an easy decision for Sandy Alderson.

I really, really, really like Johan Santana but can he stop with the” I want play in the WBC” proclamations?  How about getting in shape and being ready for opening day for the team that PAYS you?  I get all this Nationalism and stuff but Santana finished the season on the disabled list so the Mets are within their rights under the CBA to tell Santana no way and I would bet that Sandy Alderson will stick to that. This is Santana’s last year (months?) as a Met so what’s he gonna do? Besides the Mets need for Santana to show some positive starts so he can be used as trade bait in July.

MORE ON WILPON’S FOLLY

I’m sure most Mets fans are like me when it comes to trying to make sense of the Mets finances in fact most fans talk about finances in pro sports  like it’s a penny ante poker game (what is team A offering $1.2 mil? You know what? Make our offer $2mil even, fans throw $850K around like its $8.50) So it was with great anticipation that I awaited Howard Megdal’s latest tome, “Wilpon’s Folly” (Bloomsbury USA) that not only gives a time line of the events and devastation that Bernie Madoff brought to the Skill Sets and to the Mets franchise but how much of this angst could have been avoid, if the Wilpon’s, specifically Saul Katz listened to confidants they were close to about the warning signs.

Megdal put in exhausting research into this book and gives Mets fans insight into the people who run our beloved New York Mets.  One of the main conclusions I took away with after reading Wilpon’s Folly’s is the Wilpon’s have a hard time taking good advice. They got some very good advice that could have protected themselves and their finances but chose to ignore the warning signs that Madoff was trouble, specifically Saul Katz whose own son, begged for him to diversify from Madoff but Saul Katz had bought into the Madoff way of business hook, line and sinker that has me wonder what goes on in Katz’ mind when he sits and reflects on this calamity.

As you read Wilpon’s Folly you just wonder where is the end game, when does it hit rock bottom for the Wilpon’s and what happens with the Mets when it does. Megdal comes up with a plan that makes sense and makes you wonder if someone close to the Wilpon’s would pitch to them in order to save whatever assets they can.

As much as Freddy Skill Sets wants to be Mets owner for life, that looks like a pipe dream and just goes to show you that Mets fans are “we-be’s” We be here when they got here and We be still here when they’re gone.

POINTING THE FINGER

Com’on you really can’t be shocked that Jose Reyes is no longer a Met can you? I mean we’ve all been paying attention for the last year-year and a half right? Didn’t you watch the Mets last game of the season? As soon as Reyes took himself out of the game with a bunt single that all but sealed his batting crown you had to know he was right there an ex-Met. But of course as Mets fans (and NY sports fans) we have to point fingers so with let’s make sure we point the right fingers.

I’ll point two thumbs up to Sandy Alderson. Finally the Mets have an adult in charge that has the balls to make the right decision for what’s best for this franchise baseball wise. As I tweeted last night, Omar Minaya and Jeff Wilpon are the natural disasters who have ruined the Mets and Sandy Alderson and his staff is FEMA who have accessed the disaster which is the Mets organization from top to bottom and has put in a plan of attack to bring it back to where it’s a contender in the NL.  This will take time as most clean ups and rebuilds after devastation seem to do.

Two middle fingers pointed at Freddy Skill Sets, Uncle Saul Katz and Uncle Buddy. No matter which side you fall on in the Reyes departure we can all agree that these stumbblin’,bummblin’ asshats need to sell the team and sell it NOW! But they won’t because they have Uncle Bud sitting in the Commissioners chair who is nothing but an enabler to the problems in Flushing. No way in hell that Bowie Kuhn, Peter Uberoff or Fay Vincent would have put up this this destruction of the NY NL franchise. Right now I would say the Wilpon’s are the worst owners in the history of New York sports. Worse than Walter O’Malley, worse than Horace Stoneham, worse than even Jim Dolan. The Skill Sets are worse because they are holding on to the team for selfish reasons for their own personal pleasure. In their heart of black hearts they know they days as Mets owners are numbered as the debt just keeps piling up (if I had the dough I’d rent a billboard off the Grand Central with a debt clock like the one on 34 St that tracks the National debt to track the Wilpon’s debt on the Mets, Citi Field and SNY) if it weren’t for the cozy comforts of the Bud Selig’s Commissioners abode the Skill Sets would have been out on their broke ass a while. It’s going to happen sooner or later as Selig won’t stay in office too much longer and the banks and other lenders will be calling in their markers soon as will the Federal Court that will hear the law suit by the Trustees trying to recoup the Madoff loses and of course the shysters looking to be paid for their time and trouble.  You are living on borrowed time Skill Sets.

One thumb up for Jose Reyes. You were one the best and most popular Mets players of all time. Having met you on a couple of occasions I thought you were a great guy, full of energy and you seemed to really enjoy being a Met and a New Yorker. I’m happy for you and your family that you are all set for life financially; I wish you all the best and success in South Beach

One thumb down for Jose Reyes. I’m not torn up that your leaving the Mets, I know I should be but in a strange way I’m glad you’re gone. In another administration you would have been given 10 years and $200 mil in Madoff Bucks, then you’d have been out of shape and pulling hammy’s like Turkish taffy. You waited for the Mets to make you an offer but your agents forgot that Omar doesn’t live here anymore and were told by Sandy Alderson, “make you an offer”? No, how about you go out and find what the market is then call me back” Guess what? There was only one bidder in the market. I’m sure Marlins President of Baseball Ops Larry Beinfest was overruled by Jeffery Loria and David Samson on this signing. The Marlins pulled a MInaya, bidding against themselves. Give Reyes agent Peter Greenberg credit for getting his client this deal as no other team would come close to offering it to Reyes.

Two big middle fingers, a crotch grab and drop my draws kiss my Royal Irish Ass to the Mets beat writers who no matter how this went down would kill the Mets. They all had two stored away on their laptops one for when the Mets sign Reyes to a long term deal so they could kill them for over paying in money and years and the stories we see today, killing them for not signing Reyes. It goes back to the organization allowing itself to get bullied by the media and never striking back. I’ll give props to the Late Leader of the Bronx Bastards, he knew how to get back at the press, take away their free food, fucking freeloaders.

Ten fingers waving bye-bye to all the fair weather Mets fans who say they won’t go to Citi Field again and won’t watch the games on TV and on and on. How people spend their money and time is their own business and if you don’t want anything to do with the Mets that’s fine. We won’t miss you guys anyway.

FREDDY SKILLS: UNCENSORED

After reading Jeffery Tobin’s piece in the New Yorker, which by the way was the best article  I’ve ever read on Freddy Skill Sets and Uncle Saul Katz and how they’ve went from a couple of shmucks from Bensonhurst to being a couple of schmucks from a gated community in Nassau County , it hit every emotion I have about being a Mets fan.

I laughed at Freddy gushing over his “Ebbets Field” and not having the smarts to realize that the majority of Mets fans hate the design and the Brooklyn Dodger influence of the ball park.  I was angered by his quotes about his best players. David Wright, whether you or Fred think he is not a superstar, has done more for this franchise on a positive level since he came up than anyone in the whole Mets organization. A few years back, Keith Hernandez mentioned on SNY that David needs to learn to say know to all the appearances he was making to promote the team as it just adds to the wear and tear of the season and is not worth it when rest is needed to stay fresh for the season. But Wright’ make up is he can’t say no to a sick child in a hospital, or to a military vet in a VA hospital or a school where he can have a positive influence on kids. This past winter, I attended the Mets Christmas party that was held for some inner city kids. It was one of those unbelievably cold winter days and here was Wright taking off his Santa Claus suit to come over to talk to myself and the other Mets bloggers in attendance. As cold as it was outside, Wright was dripping with sweat as that Santa Suit was stifling hot and he wore it until every kid came up to him to receive a Christmas gift . When I greeted Wright with a handshake I said to him “Is there anything you don’t do around here” and he replied “this isn’t work, this is fun, just to see the kid’s smile makes it worth it” We then began asking a few question and the one response  and image that stuck with me was that of a sweaty, tired David Wright leaning on a wall talking about his accomplishments as a Met saying “all I have to my name as a Met is NL East title and that’s not enough”

So when Freddy Skill Sets says about Wright, “He’s a really good kid, A very good player, not a superstar” I find that totally offensive. Last season I wrote that I felt Wright should approach the Skill Sets and demand a trade. I felt he needed to go to a better baseball environment where smart baseball people were in charge and rich owners just sat back and mined their own business. I pictured Wright on the Cardinals, Red Sox or Giants teams that are on solid ground and excelling as not the main cog in the engine but one of the pistons. So I guess that means I think like Freddy, that Wright is a very good player not a superstar, well on the Mets he’s a superstar because he has never, ever embarrassed this franchise and everything he does on and off the field is to promote the Mets in a positive light, which is an a near impossible task. No one in ownership has ever done iota of good for this franchise than Wright has done and for Freddy Skill Sets to disrespect Wright like he did in this article is totally classless.

Do you know how much money and how many years Jose Reyes wants in his next contract? No you don’t and neither do I and neither does anyone else. Reyes has said that he wants to remain a Met for his whole career, during a media gathering at Cit Field right before spring training.  Reyes has made Long Island his permanent home. He has moved his parents from the Dominican Republic here to live with him, his wife and his kids. Jose Reyes loves being a Met and loves being a New Yorker, so where does Freddy get this idea that Reyes is looking for a “Carl Crawford contract”? Reyes is not getting a 7 year deal from the Mets or anyone else. The highest I can see for Jose is 5/$100mil but now with the diss from Freddy, I’m sure Reyes will look for the best deal he can get. Freddy’s big mouth might have just cost the Mets a hometown discount.

Carlos Beltran had to battle through a gauntlet of assholes to get his knee operated on and then rehabs his ass off to get back on the field to earn his paycheck. A lot of players after getting dicked around by management over a medical procedure would take their sweet time and come back when they thought it was best for them and not the team.  The thought never came into Carlos Beltran’s mind. He has not only worked his ass off to get back on the field, he’s changed position (unlike a certain diva shortstop in the Bronx who refuses to move off a position he hasn’t play well at in about three years) and has been giving the team a solid bat and adjusting to his new position flawlessly and has helped both his replacements, Angel Pagan and Jason Pridie with instructions on how to play the tough centerfield of Citi Field and for all this, he hears Freddy Skill Set say what a dick he was to sign him. Enjoy Carlos Beltran for the next month he is as good as gone from the Mets.

Just when you think there was no more earth for Freddy to scorch I’m sure his statement about his “shitty team” and that’s how “lousy clubs play” has gone over well with the ticket sales department and the public relations group.

From spending some time with the people behind the scenes at City Field these statements are an out and out punch in the gut to those folks who work hard and try and try and try to make this team relevant, to the point that people would actually spend money to come out to Citi Field.  Is Fred this delusional that he thinks he can call his team “lousy and shitty” and have these folks spin it positively? How does a ticket rep for the Mets call a prospective season ticket purchaser today and convince them to but Mets tickets? How does the P.R. staff come up with an ad campaign to get you to come out to Citi Field to see the Mets?  Freddy and Saul can spew old man stupidity all day and night, I’ll still go out to Citi Field this summer to watch the team, I’m sure Freddy and Saul laugh about a schmuck like me and that’s cool ,they can laugh now but I’ll be laughing later when Irv Picard beats their dumb ass in court and they have to sell the team and I’ll still being coming to Citi Field and rooting for my favorite baseball team and Freddy and Saul will be looking for that two-family house in Bensonhurst so Freddy can live upstairs and Saul down the basement. Just like old times.

UNCLE SAUL KATZ HAS A BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG MOUTH

It’s amazing that Uncle Saul Katz  didn ‘t end up like Maurie Kessler (a/k/a Maurie’s Wigs) in Goodfella’s. The crew, especially Jimmy The Gent couldn’t take Maurie’s constant talking and ball breaking so they had him snuffed.

It seems Bernie Madoff  felt the same way about Uncle Saul who it seems just couldn’t shut the fuck up about the windfall profits he and his bother in law Freddy Skill Sets were making investing with Madoff. Bernie got a little nervous with Uncle Saul as he worried that some real honest to goodness financial advisers would hear big mouth Saul chirping at the Mahjong table.

“COME HEAR UNCLE SAUL’S BAND, PLAYING TO THE TIDE”

So now that our weekend of fun (no Highlanders or Phuck Phaces in the World Series) and we await what I think will be a terrific World Series, it’s time to look at what is taking so long for the Skill Sets to figure out who will be the next leader of the baseball operations.

On Mets Minor League Blog, they feel it’s up to Uncle Saul as to who will get the GM job. Freddy Skill Sets is in the pro-Alderson camp, while Jeffey is leaning towards Josh Byrnes due to both of them being similar age. It’s this kind of bullshit that brings out the nastiness in me when it comes to Jeffey, he’s done this with players (Al Leiter, John Franco and Tom Glavine) he did it with Omar and with John Ricco as well. Doesn’t this little shit have friends of his own? But then again who would want to be friends with this dolt? So the third and final vote comes down to Uncle Saul Katz. Whoever Uncle Saul picks most likely will be the next American Idol Mets GM. Why do I have the feeling the Skill Sets will fuck this up?

If Jeffey Skill Sets sent me e-mails like Metstadaums has on his site, I would be waiting with heighten anticipation to receive them.

Metszilla has a link to a 2008 interview that Sandy Alderson did with the site Ducksnorts when he was in charge of the Padres. It is a fascinating read.

Sometimes I just can’t figure out our fan base. Daniel Murphy is back playing after a devastating knee injury. He’s playing 2nd bas in the Dominican League and from some of the stuff I read on Twitter you’d think that Murphy is solely responsible for the suckitude of the franchise. Am I saying that Murph is the answer at 2nd base ? No. But I see no reason why he and Nick Evans can’t be viable bench pieces next season. What I can’t understand is, Murphy is the kind of player most Mets fans feel the team needs. He shows up to spring training with the pitchers and catcher. He will play any place the manager asks him. He plays that balls to wall hustle that it seems the majority of the fan base is clamoring for, so tell me all you Murphy haters out there, what is it that bothers you about him? I know he’s a player without a position but as a sub or spot starter, I feel Murphy would make a solid contribution to this team. The comments section is now open for all of you to let me know how much of an asshole I am over this.

Tomorrow night on THIS CALL TO THE BULLPEN on BLOG TALK RADIO my guest will be Ed Marcus a/k/a Rusty Jr of The Real Dirty Mets blog. Ed and I will discuss the hunt of a new Mets GM and all things Mets. That’s tomorrow Tuesday October 26th at 10PM ET on THIS CALL TO THE BULLPEN.

SO, WHO IS THE FIRST OF THE GANG TO DIE ?

…where Hector was the first of the gang

with a gun in his hand

and the first to do time

the first of the gang to die. Oh my.

Hector was the first of the gang

with a gun in his hand

and the first to do time

the first of the gang to die. Oh my.

So, what now? I’ll say this, making a managerial move at this moment would just be window dressing. I’d like to see and new face in the mgr’s office sure,  but right now there is not a baseball manager alive (or dead) that could get this team to play better. The decay of the Mets starts at the top with Jeffey Skill Sets and I’ve beat this horse to death, resurrected it and beat it’s ass again. I’m not going to waste your time and mine going over my distain for management. But the masses are looking for a scalp. Talk radio, the message boards any place Mets can voice their wrath, are looking for a trophy. It’s like The Passion of The Mets, where we all stand in front of $iti Field screaming “ CRUCIFY HIM, CRUCIFY HIM” .

The anger and nastiness from the Mets fan right now is not out of hate but the biggest show of love you could ever see or hear. There is a thin line between love and hate for sure. That’s passion, something that the owners of this team sorely lack. Jeff Wilpon and David Howard do not posses a baseball soul, that’s why they can’t understand us. The improvements at $iti Field while pleasing to Mets fans, we must remember these rich fat ass’s had to be embarrassed in order to make it right.

The new message that ownership needs to hear is that while the passion of rabid Mets fan still burns white hot, that flame could go out very soon. Hate is still passion, but when the fan base turns apathetic, that’s failure and the Wilpon’s, Saul Katz and David Howard are on the express lane with an EZ-Pass  to failure.

Ok we fire Manuel and who takes over, Bob Melvin? Tim Tuefel? Joe Frazier ? Does it matter? The best  move the club could make today is assign Jenry Mejia to Bingo, bring up Ike Davis to play first base everyday, release Mike Jacobs and Fernando Tatis. Then send John Maine to Dr. James Andrews for a full physical evaluation. If every thing checks out a-okay, then give him a copy of this book, if that fails then time to release him. Show your fan base you’re not broke or cheap by releasing Luis Castillo. Put Ollie Perez on waivers and when he clears assign him to Buffalo (I don’t know if they can do this but I’m so fucking mad, spittle is flying out of my mouth just typing this post) in essence my message to Mets management is do something, show me you actually give a fuck about this franchise and in turn give us Mets fans a reason to buy a ticket and go to $iti Field. Last night the Orioles had just under 14,000 fans at Camden Yards. Monday they had less than 10,000 the reason they had 4,000 more fans last night was two fold, rookie stud pitcher Brian Matsuz was on the mound and the team was giving away t shirts. Someone in the Mets front office has to have a scintilla of common sense to see the Mets and $iti Field are headed in that direction.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you Skill Sets. Pretty soon every day will be like Sunday.

BENGI GO HOME!!!!

Thank you Bengi Molina for NOT signing with the NY Mets and thank you Brian Sabean for bailing out the Mets with your offer to Bengi Molina.

Now that the Mets have $5 mil lying around they can either put that money towards giving Ben Sheets and incentive filled deal and strike before some other team grabs him or they could put that money towards a buyout of Rogers (Hornsby) Castillo or keep Castillo and use the money towards giving Orlando Hudson a deal and left Castillo be a part time player/groundskeeper. I know it’s a pipe dream that the Mets would buyout Castillo and sign O-Dog so please Jeffey Baby, let’s give the cast to Sheets!!!!!!

More good news, Jeff Francouer signed for just 1 year. Rumor is that Freddy Skill Sets and Uncle Saul Katz made a deal Richard Heene for one of his balloons and Jeffey and Omar are now orbiting around the skies of Corona.

Metsgrrl just received a framed picture from opening day at $iti field for being a loyal season ticket subscriber. The note that came with it wished her a HAPPY HOLIDAY. Obviously the Skill Sets waited until all holiday items were at 90 % off to buy the frames the pics came with.

As much as I feel the Mets need to go full force for at least 2 starting pitchers, they still need a catcher. I like Omir Santos but his presences behind the plate has been questioned within the organization. I’m fine with Henry Blanco as a one half of a catching tandem as he is strong defensively. I can’t see going after Yorvit Torrealba with a lawsuit against the Mets still awaiting trial so the guy who makes the most sense would be Rod Barajas. Barajas is nothing at the plate but he’s very good behind it and the Mets need a very good defensive catcher.

Yes it is outstanding that the Mets have announced that Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Davey Johnson and Frank Cashen will be inducted into the NY Mets Hall of Fame this summer. But isn’t it remarkable that all four of these gentlemen are not in there already. In fact the last player to be inducted into the Mets HOF was Tommie Agee in 2002.  Induction day will be August 1st,  so far that’s the first “must game to be at” for 2010.

Sad news from the NY Rangers. John Haligan the teams long time PR man and top Rangers and NHL historian passed away today at age of 68. For years I sat in Section 432 of Madison Square Garden watching the Rangers and Halligan and his wife Janet were the two of the great people at MSG. John always had time to talk to us between periods and he would bring us the score sheets and any news on injuries. He respected us as people and as Ranger fans. This is a very sad day indeed.

FORGET TONY B AND OMAR, FIRE JEFFEY!!!!!!!!!!!

Another day in Metsville where the suckitude off the field over shadows the suckitude on the field. As I type this, Tony Bernazard is still employed by the Mets and that is troubling. More troubling is that Omar Minaya is acting like these aligactons against Bernazard are fresh and he is ‘investigating” them. If that’s true Minaya should be fired on the spot as well.

I’ve defended Minaya here at this site while ducking the lings and arrows of the FIRE MINAYA brigade but as this Bernazard scandal unfolds it looks like Omar is either clueless of what is going on under his stewardship as the Mets top baseball man or he is a lying sack of shit. Either way due to the facts coming out that Omar has let this loose cannon Tony B run roughshod through the organization Minaya and Bernazard should both be fired like yesterday.

Not to rehash my post from yesterday but Bernazard was very smart to buddy up to Jeffey Skill Set but at some point Freddy Skill Set has to tear himself away from his personal pity party of getting fleeced by Bernie Madoff and along with Uncle Saul Katz take over control of the Mets organization before it burns to the ground. All Freddie has to do is look across his estate at his neighbor Charlie Dolan who gave his incompetent son the keys to the World’s Most Famous Arena and turned into the World’s Largest Shit Hole.

If Freddy doesn’t take the reins and grab control of the team and re-assigns Jeffey to the corporate wing of the organization, we Mets fans will be looking at the baseball version of the New York Knickerbockers. Freddy and Uncle Saul have to have an intervention with the little jock sniffer Jeffey and remove him from anything to do with the baseball operation. Then the must go in and rip apart the infrastructure of the team’s front office and start over.

Freddy needs to go after men like Larry Beinfest, Logan White of the Dodgers, Grady Fuson  and Paul DePodesta of the Padres, Abe Flores, the Angels Director of Player Development, or Jed Hoyer VP and Asst GM of the Red Sox.
