DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

On any other day, I’d be writing about the latest in a string of calamities to hit the Mets with Johan Santana going from having a sore chest muscle to getting ready to have his shoulder operated on.  Or Jenry Mejia proving that any thought of either Jerry Manuel or Omar Minaya keeping their job is preposterous  as both are accountable for wasting this young man’s season and pushing his development back due to their own selfishness. But today is not any other day, it’s September 11th 2010, the ninth anniversary on the worst day ever in American history.

What makes this day even tougher, is nine years ago in the wake of the attack, the country came together, we were not Christians, Jews, Muslim, Republican, Democrat, Liberal or Conservative, we were AMERICANS!  We came together because OUR country was attacked, WE were attacked, the core of what we stand for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness was attacked and we were not going to stand for it. We were truly the UNITED States of America. So what why is it nine years later we as Americans are so divided?

How did we lose our way? How did we let Wall St nearly ruin us? Why have we pledge our allegiance to political parties instead of to the good of the American people. These days Republicans and Democrats are more concerned of who is charge of the Senate than they are about getting people back to work and taking care of the very people we will honor today, the first responders at Ground Zero .  Think about it, why isn’t there the outrage about Congress not passing a bill that would take care of all medical expenses of the first responders at the World Trade Center attack like there is for the Park51 project? How can you be more angry about a community center with a pray room in it than you are about someone who was digging in rubble to try to save another human being and in the process sucked in asbestos and other carcinogens ?

I will never forget September 11th 2001 for as long as I live. It was a day just like today sunny, clear and a feel of autumnl was on the way as I write this 8:46AM is when the world changed. I missed being in the middle of it by an hour as I was enroute from lower Manhattan to Queens where my office was. Since then I was transfer to Lower Manhattan and now I’m just five blocks away from where all hell broke loose, so I’m reminded  of it everyday.

So what will I do today? I’ll spend the day with my family and be grateful for them, and I’ll take pride that I am a born and raised New Yorker and most importantly I will show how proud I am to be an AMERICAN. God bless the souls killed on 9-11-01 and their friends and families. God Bless the fallen heroes of the FDNY, NYPD, PAPD who ran towards the attack when others were running away. God bless the people of NYC who on 9-12-01 picked up the pieces and proved to the world that nothing stops us from going to work and providing for our families and most of all God Bless The United States of America.

METS LOSE TO PADS 18-6 HAIRSTON’S 2 TD’S THE DIFFERENCE

Rough one last night in San Diego. Kevin Corria connected twice to Jerry Hariston Jr in the end zone for 2 TD’s and David Eckstein kicked two extra points to lead the Padres over the Mets 18-6. Adrian Gonzalez had a big night of defense as he sacked Raul Valdes and Ryota Igarashi in the end zone for safeties. The Mets scored on a Jose Reyes punt return but the 2pt conversion failed.

If I’m Ollie Perez or Scott Boras I’d welcome a trip to Buffalo as to not have to face the media and a very angry fan base when the Mets get back to NYC to open a three game series with the Fish on Friday. I’d love to get a press pass for the Friday game just to ask Ollie on question:

“Oliver? Steve Keane from the Eddie Kranepool Society” How does it feel that Mets front office, players and fan base are so disgusted by your selfishness that they would rather see you hogtied with an athletic cup shoved in your mouth stuffed in the trunk of a car parked on Fountain Avenue in East New York Brooklyn”

Ollie: “Brooklyn? Shit I don’t want to go to Buffalo what makes you think I want to go to Brooklyn”

Hey while you’re watching Big Pelf lose 1-0 to the Padres tonight how about joining me on THIS CALL TO THE BULLPEN as I open the phone lines to the listeners tonight to talk Mets and all things baseball at 10PM ET on Blog Talk Radio. REMEMBER WHAT THIS DAY MEANS

A very busy Memorial Day weekend continues, first it was a trip to the Staten Island Homeport for Fleet Week and a visit on the battleships in port, then yesterday it was chillin’ and grillin’ in the backyard and today my family is honored to march in the Staten Island Memorial Day parade as both my kids will be flag bearers and then off to another barbeque. How can anyone like winter over summer ? I dread heading to work tomorrow for the fact I have to wear real pants and a shirt, I could be extremely happy spending the rest of my life in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops.

Take time out of your busy weekend to give a thought about the brave men and women of our military who have put their lives on the line for us and for our country and if there is a parade in your area today try to get out to it and show your support for those who have given the supreme sacrifice.

I’m not happy with just one win in Milwaukee this weekend, if this Mets team would have gone 11-12 on the road, to go with that great home record of 19-9 that’s 30-21 overall just a shade under .600 ball and in 1st place in the NL East. Now it’s on to the 1st place SD Padres and their top ranked pitching staff, 2 out of 3 here for the Mets would be sweet.

At some point Jeffey Skill Sets has to have a sit down with Ollie Perez and Scott Boras to get Perez to go to Buffalo. I’m sure Perez’ teammates are not happy by his selfishness and me attitude but when the team comes back home this weekend, just the sight of Perez at the ballpark will set off an ugly reaction by the fans. Jerry Manuel said in so many words that it would take a disastrous situation before he calls Perez on the bullpen phone so really Ollie man up and go to Buffalo.

Fernando Tatis was in the lineup for Ike Davis yesterday and batted clean up. That’s worse that the other Manuel line up staple of whoever plays 2nd must bat 2nd.  Do any of the other coaches go to Jerry and say enough is enough with these ridiculous lineup he puts together ?

If my vote means anything I vote YES on brining Dontrelle Willis to the Mets.

There is nothing sadder than seeing a house without an American flag outside of it especially on a holiday like Memorial Day.

OLIVER PEREZ REFUSES TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM

Who thinks Oliver Perez to the bullpen is a good plan? I didn’t think so. If you thought Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis , Armando Benitez  and Doug Sisk were the most hated relievers in Mets history OP could be jump to the number one spot on that list just not just for ineffectiveness but for his out right selfishness by not taking assignment to the minors.

I’d love to kill the Mets for not having the balls to ship OP’s sorry ass out to Buffalo but their hands are tied with OP having to give his ok for the demotion and it looked like he was ready to do so but Scott Bora$ got in his ear and OP revered course. Too bad.

OP can’t work on his problems out of the pen. J-Man won’t use him in a big spot so his days will be sitting idle in the pen eating licorice and sunflower seeds. At least in Buffalo he stays in the rotation and works with pitching coach Rickey Bones to get his mechanics straighten out.  Again, what will it take for OP to do the right thing, blowing a relief assignment and getting humiliated by the $iti Field crowd? It shouldn’t come to that.
