NY Mets Had A Good Weekend, But It Could Have Been A Great Weekend

The good news is the Mets are 6-3 and took 2 of 3 from the Phuck Phaces in Filthadelphia. Should they have swept?  It not only would have been very sweet but I would have had a much better vibe about this team than I do this morning if they did. Do not get me wrong, I am very happy with this start and any time you can go to Filthadelphia and win a series is a solid positive but again the Mets allowed a team to get 4 or 5 outs in an inning will be the difference between the club staying in playoff contention or dropping to the second division.  The Mets are just not good enough to make a lot of mistakes.

Mike Pelfrey had another solid start yesterday, sure that WHIP of 1.80 is not good at all and he does leave pitches up in the zones that get smashed but yesterday after the first inning that looked like the beginning of a disastrous start, Pelf made adjustments and relied a lot on his sinker, a 90+MPH sinker I might add, and got ground ball out after ground ball out. Nice job out of Pelf.

I know Mike Nickeas is here for his defense but I don’t see how he is this solid defensive receiver.  Throwing out Juan Pierre at third was more on Pierre being an idiot making the third out at third base, than Nickeas being Jerry Grote. I’ll give Nickeas a bit of a hat tip as he seems to call a decent game but his backhanding of balls in the dirt and inability to keep balls in front of him has me turned off a bit.

Teams that have 2-1 leads going into the 7th inning have to get those last 9 outs and the ones that do are the teams that are pennant contenders. So far the bullpen has done a great job (Bobby Parnell, Jon Rauch and Frank Francisco) but yesterday when the frontline relievers weren’t used and the second tier arms came in the game, the results were a disaster. It wasn’t all Ramon Ramirez, Miguel Batista and Manny Acosta’ fault as Ruben Tejada made a bad throwing error and Scott Hairston played left field like he had marbles instead of spike on his shoes but again this team has a super model thin margin of error.

Congrats to Mets Fan Rich for sending in the correct answer to yesterday’s trivia question (R.A. Dickey gave up 6 HR’s in a game tying a modern MLB record) and winning the VIP tickets to the Tribeca Film Festival showing of Knuckleball! On Saturday April 21 at 8PM. This event is open to the public for FREE. So come on down and get a chance to meet R.A. Dickey, Charlie Hough, Tim Wakefield and Jim Bouton.

BUS STOP WET DAY SHE’S THERE PLEASE SHARE MY UMBRELLA

It’s been a very busy morning so this will be a short post. I hate weather like today as we have a 5:30 game and it’s either going to rain this afternoon or this evening and I have to plan to go home early or stay at work so I’m very indecisive on what to do kind of like the Mets on the base paths.

Big Pelf was the pitcher we all thought we’d grow up to be yesterday. He got ahead with his sinker and used an effective spilt as well. It also helps it have a craftsman behind the plate like Henry Blanco. What we need now is consistency from Big Mike.

This whole Reyes in the third spot is just Jerry Manuel standing on a trap door waiting for it to open. I love how J-Man tells the press he advised Reyes to stay with his game when the move is made and not try to be a power hitter. What the hell is your 3 hitter anyway? He’s your best bat and one of your best power bats which is why D-Wright is the best option at the 3 spot. The problem with the lineup is both Mike Jacobs and Fernando Tatis suck and Ike Davis is playing for Buffalo. I know there are some who think Davis needs more time at Triple A but when you take into account his fine spring plus he went to one of the finest baseball schools-Arizona St.-in the country and his dad was a major leaguer so he knows the life better than most, that baseball pedigree tells me the risk of bringing up and under cooked Davis is better than a burnt Mike Jacobs or Fernando Tatis.

The Wee-Fellow at the Daily News has for the most part become an irrelevant writer in this town but he is still the house organ for the Skill Sets which leads me to believe the Skill Sets some how collaborated with him on this Bobby Valentine homecoming story to reclaim the Mets managers office.

SICK AS A DOG, WHAT’S YOUR STORY?

…..cause you really ain’t that young………..

I have a nasty chest cold today and feel like shit so I’m hoping the Mets keep their trade hand pat as I’d hate for them to pull off a blockbuster today like getting Albert Puljos and Adam Wainright for Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez and Tony Bernazard’s wife beater, as my energy level as now at dragging ass.

One announcement before I mainline Vick’s Vapor Rub, the Mets signed Japanese RHP and Tommy John surgery survivor Ryota Igarashi. Igarashi, 30 will be given the set up tole to Frankie Rodz to lose this spring as he possesses a 90+ FB and a killer spilt/sinker (or so they say)

Igarashi will also represent the Mets at the Nathans’ Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island on July 4th.

I really need to lay down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE DIRTY LOWE DOWN

So there was Derek Lowe sailing, or should I say sinking along through five innings when the Philletes got the break of the game when Rafael Furcal decides to lose all good judgement to eat the grounder by Shane Victorino and throws wildly past James Loney at first send Victorino to second. This woke up the crowd which looked splendid in their brand new Phillies duds as this new phenomena of baseball has taken over a city in which the Iggles and Flyers are the top two teams with the AHL Phantoms third. From there Lowe got a bit rattled (by the way, Lowe was sweating like a pig going to slaughter last night I know it’s unseasonable warm here in the east but Lowe looked like he was pitching on an August night) and went away from what was working all night, killing worms with his sinker, as he got two fastballs up to Utley and Burrell who hit it out of the South Philly Band Box to put the game away for Phinks. As tough as it is who have to keep the ball in the ball park against Philly as that is about the only way they score, hold them homer-less and you stand a good chance of winning.

How hard was it to listen to the televison audio of last night s game? Just when you could not think the duo of Mc Fullofshit and Doofus Joe could get any worse they reached an all time low last night. The constant hammering of Manny Ramirez is to the point of unprofessionalism on the part of the FOX duo. How many more times do we need to hear about Manny shoving the Red Sox traveling secretary? The story always comes out the same way Manny asked for more tickets to a game the TS said he couldn’t get him anymore and Manny knocked him on his ass. My question is what did the TS say or do to make Manny react that way? Did Manny just knock him down for shits and giggles or was he provoked. I’m not trying to be a Manny apologists here but there has to be two sides to this story.

That’s why this afternoon, if Tim Mc Fullofshit and Doofus Joe don’t go in depth on Brett Myers punching his wife in the face last year in Boston or the fact that Jimmy Rollins had to disciplined by Charlie Manuel twice this season then they are more gutless and vile than I make them out to be. It seems both of these putz’s have an “agenda”

Check this out from the Mets Police. It’s a slide show shot from the top of Shea on the final day. The pics are outstanding.

If there is an afterlife I know one guy I do not want to come back as and that’s Clint Marlarchuk.

Thanks to Lodge 13 for the props on my rant on $iti Field. It seems the Skill Sets are also slow in refunding the dough they received from fans who bought post season tickets. My advice to those fans is to call Andrew Cuomo, the State Attorney General and advise him of this scam the Skill Sets are pulling.
