MY CONVERSATION WITH NEW METS HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE JOHN FRANCO

I had the opportunity to sit down with the newest inductee to the New York Mets Hall of Fame, John Franco, before his appearance at the Citi Bank branch at Madison Ave and 42 Street in Manhattan. Franco was there to promote the Citi Mets ticket pre-sale which is available to all Citi credit and debit card holders. The pre-sale is ongoing until 11:59 PM tomorrow.

I’d like to that Marc Sausa of Citi bank and Danielle Parrillo and Shannon Forde of the Mets for setting me up with the opportunity to speak with Franco

METS FANS BE PREPARED

I’m just back from Citi Field where the Mets held Citi Kids Day for some 5th and 6th grade public school children of NYC. The attraction besides getting to sit in the Mets Clubhouse, we meeting Mets players Dillon Gee, Josh Thole, Bobby Parnell, R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes and 2011 Opening Day starter Mike Pelfrey along with manager Terry Collins.

I haven’t had time to transcribe what I have from the interviews with the players (I hope to have some of it up tomorrow as I came home and now I’m off to MSG for Rangers-Maple Leafs) but the main theme I picked up from the players is, they feel this team is no also ran and 2011 is not just a bridge to the future. The word you heard the most today was “preparation” as in lack of it last year and lot’s of emphasis on it this year.

Mike Pelfrey, beaming from the announcement that he will be on the mound April 1 in Florida, told us of Terry Collins sitting with the players at lunch today going over relay throws and defensive alignments. The whole time Big Pelf had a big grin conveying his liking of this new direction.

More tomorrow ……………………..

YOU BETTER READ THIS POST SITTING DOWN

This evening, Mets GM Sandy Alderson will sit down for a conference call to take questions from some Mets bloggers. It just so happens that yours truly was invited to participate in this conference call.

Remember back on November 4th how I ranted about not being asked to contribute to the last bloggers conference call and I also made this statement:

I have found out from some very good sources that I have as much chance of being invited to a bloggers event at Citi Field as Keith Olbermann has of being the keynote speaker at the Tea Party Convention.

Well guess what? The devil wears North Face.  Not only was I asked to join the conference call but I have been invited (and I’ve accepted graciously) to attend the Mets Holiday party at Citi Field. Some law enforcement buddies of mine have offered me their Kevlar vest for the occasion.

First thing I’ll do when I arrive at the festivities is check for plastic drop cloths on the floor as I don’t want to wind up like my buddy in the picture above, Tommy DeVito.  It should be an interesting afternoon.

I may have to designate a search and rescue team to come look for me on Tuesday afternoon.
