I’m Suffering from MTKL Syndrome

I know I haven’t posted much in the last month or so here, much of that has to do with enjoying the summer with my family as my son goes off to college and my daughter to high school so the family dynamic is changing and it takes a lot of getting used to as my kids get older an much more independent

But it also has to do with, sitting at my keyboard and trying to find what to write about when it comes to the NY Mets? For the fifth straight season, the Mets are irrelevant in the month of September and will finish with a losing record for five straight seasons as well. Sure there are reasons to be optimistic as the young arms in the bushes seem to be on target to lead this team next season and beyond and the fact that having a tear in his UCL , Matt Harvey is not on life support and if the worst possible scenario is he needs Tommy John surgery, odds are he’ll be back in 2015 better than ever, but what about today and next season?

I admit I’m suffering from MTKL (My Team Keeps Losing) Syndrome. This causes me to be irritable and cranky and wanting for a team that in the words of our fiscally deficient owner Freddy “Skill Sets” Wilpon, “Just play some meaning full games in September”! It’s bad enough playing out this string of games but it worse when you have to sit (squirm?) through a Daisuke Matsusaka start. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!. If losing isn’t bad enough, a Dice –K start is losing with your arms tied above your head hanging from a cathedral ceiling.  Fucking excruciating.  But as obscene as his last start was to go with the other two insufferable starts, Dice-K will take the hill again in four days. Don’t blame Terry Collins for this, what can he do? This is the best Sandy Alderson can do for him as far as pitcher goes since the Las Vegas 51’s are now in the PCL  playoffs , is scrap heapers like Dice K and Aaron Harrang. It’s a real suck ass situation.

It’s hard for me to start projecting what the Mets will do in the offseason since there are so many other story lines in baseball right now that are more enjoyable and compelling to follow than who will play 1st base next year, how much, if any money the Mets  will spend in free agents and the year Daniel Murphy will be enshrined in the baseball Hall of Fame.

These are all great leads for November but in September, as a baseball fan I’d rather watch what’s going on in Pittsburgh. I’d rather watch the happenings in Oakland where I sit in astonishment every September watching the A’s with far from household names, make that late season surge to the post season. I’m even intrigued on what’s going on in the South Bronx where Joe Girarrdi  is doing one of the great managerial jobs in Yankee history keeping this rag tag cut rate (if $187 Mil payroll can be called cut rate) alive in a pennant race.

I’d much rather be rooting for the Mets and wishing this series with the Braves was on par with the current A’s-Rangers series going on in Oakland or the Cardinal-Reds series as well but as a baseball fan I just can’t get excited about playing out the string baseball. I’m sick of it and this off season it’s time for Sandy Alderson to hold the Wilpon’s feet to the fire and DEMAND they give him the authority to spend money to improve this team to be a contender in 2014. I’m about at the end of my rope to tell you the truth, I don’t know if I have a 6th losing season left in me.

Another Mets Second Half Swoon………UGH!

Like Popeye, “I cans stands so much that I can’t stands no more”

I don’t know how Terry Collins keeps his composure after games like last night. Game after game he has to answer the same inane questions that he has no answers to. Game after suck ass game, Collins sits there and calmly answers why the bullpen is an arson squad and why his lineup is impotent. I know he has to be seething on the inside but to his credit he never lets’ the media see him sweat. Well, maybe it’s time he started popin’ some sweat.

Collins has protected his players better than a grandmother at the local playground but maybe it’s time to take the protective bubble wrap off his precious players. Maybe it’s time for Collins to take a page out of the John Tortorella book of press conferences and just come to the podium and say “We sucked today and at this point in the season we, the baseball people of this organization, need to sit down and figure out which way we want to go here because as it stands now we are on the road to nowhere”. Then just get up and walk out.

This team is making blogging about them tougher and tougher each and every day. The past four seasons  Mets fans have had absolutely nothing to root for. Checkout the second half records for this season and the last three:

2012 9-22

2011 31-40

2010 31-43

2009 28-47

You know who I feel sorry for? The poor bastard in the ticket office who has to call season ticket holders to persuade them to renews their seats.  You would have it easier trying to sell Mike Bloomberg an NRA membership than Mets season tickets.

It’s August 16th we should be following every move being made in the National League and hoping the Mets can grab a waiver wire deal to solidify their spot in a post season run. Instead I have Kelly Shoppach, a catcher I’ve wanted on the Mets for the last two years, better late than never I guess. This weekend I should be riveted to the Mets-Nationals series in D.C., instead on Saturday I have to have my bagels and coffee ready for 10AM for the start of Aresnal-Sunderland match on ESPN by the way, any football fans out there care to comment on Van Persie going to the Red Devils????? and at night, the Giants-Jets exhibition game that has become a must watch since the Rex Ryan era.

Something’s gotta give in Flushing this off season, The Skill Sets have to find a way to raise the payroll and Sandy Alderson has to get creative in trades to put a team on the field that is competitive for more than 81 games, if not what’s the incentive to buy tickets in 2013?

Please no more promotions, new uniforms  food items or post game rock concerts, just go out and get some GOD DAMN BALLPLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHEN THE WALLS COME TUMBLIN’ DOWN

Here’s the Mets news of the day:

The Mets are in a pennant race but on the wrong side of the track. The red-hot Redbrids are breathing down the necks of the Bravos of whom the Mets took two out three games from last week and have made the Washington Generals Mets look like stumblebums the last two nights.

Lucas Duda came out of the game last night after running into the right field fence. Doctors say he does not show symptoms of a concussion. Duda will announce his retirement from baseball Monday at Citi Field due to effects of the head injury he suffered last night.

The Mets organization have made the decision it’s better to go to Home Depot and invest in plywood, nails and Scotts Turf Builder to rebuild the Great Wall of Flushing into the Grotto De Corona complete with a small wall, a grassy knoll and votive candles, than to go out and get better players. If this doesn’t work, the Skill Sets will petition MLB to allow David Wright to take all his home at bats at the 2K Sports Fan Fest Wiffle Ball Field.

Pedro Beato was ineffective again last night out of the pen. Beato claims to be fatigued due to pitching for close to 20 months straight between Winter ball, Minor Leagues and this full year with the Mets. NYC Department of Child Services is looking into Beato’s claim of abuse by his foster parents, Dan Warthen and Terry Collins.

Sandy Alderson was surprised when told that the vast majority of Mets fans want the outfield walls painted BLUE. I guess he’d be shocked, SHOCKED to find out that we think the Black Jerseys suck ass as well.

In the eyes of a ranger, The unsuspected stranger Had better know the truth of wrong from right, ’cause the eyes of a ranger are upon you,

Happy Highlander Elimination Day to ya! I can’t wait to see Michael Kay’s head explode on the YUCK post game show if Bronx Bastards lose game five. I hope Joe Girardi studied that binder of his and found the page where it says, “when a suck ass pitcher like AJ Burnett gives you five innings, take it an run”

No Mets news today except for Frankie Rodriguez getting a mere $3mil deduction from his personal worth for his altercation and embarrassment of himself and of the Mets organization. Hopefully who ever takes the reigns of the baseball operations let’s K-Rod know his days as a Mets closer are done. Welcome to a setup role K-Rod.
