TUESDAY METS MINUTIA

BRING BACK BANNER DAY!!!!!!!!

Even with a day off yesterday, there is still no shortage of negative Mets stories in the daily fish wraps.

The NY Times just discovered that no one is buying Mets tickets and the fans that are, are going through the secondary ticket market at huge discounts instead of buying directly from the team. I guess the next investigative report will be that the LIRR and Metro North rarely run on time. Duh!

I really hope the team is not rushing Jason Bay back into action as that oblique rib thingy he has could be tricky. The plan was to have J-Bay play in Buffalo but with the snow (yes, SNOW) and cold, the brain trust felt it’s better to go back to St. Lonesome for two more games. What I don’t get is, why fly him up from Florida, evaluate him to the point where he is just about ready to play but fly him back down to Florida for two days and then fly back to NYC to play on Thursday. Unless Bay is getting those frequent flyer miles, I can’t see him be too happy with the back and forth back and forth plane rides. If the doctors feel Bay is A-OK  and it’s just a matter for getting at bats and rounding into baseball shape, why not just leave him here and take batting practice on the field and then in the cage and shag fly balls all in the vast valley of Citi Field? Two games in St Lonesome is going to make that much difference?

Out of ideas, Bill Madden decides to write about the Mets farm system, saved for a couple of pitchers, is barren of talent. Either Madden thinks the Minor League system consists of only Buffalo and Binghamton or he failed to renew his subscription to Baseball America.

So far Brad Emaus has been playing like, well……a Rule V player, but I side here with Eric Seidman about leaving Emaus in the lineup for at least 300 PA and if he still is as stagnant at bat and in the field then give him a seat cushion and a spot on the bench handing out bubble gum and sunflower seeds.  Not every Rule V pans out but after 42 PA I’m not ready to pull the plug either.

There are certain things that separate the Mets for other sports team in this town.  Even when the team was bad back in the day a day at Shea was always fun. Jane Jarvis and her Thomas Organ always entertained unlike the moronic shell game/ 3 card Monty ball under the Mets cap video between innings or pass the pizza box to win a pizza that contains no mozzarella (Cassarino’s is the absolute worst concession at Citi Field a slice of pizza the size of a” horses doovers” with no cheese for $6 bucks? Fuck that!) but the one event that was pure Mets was banner day and over at Faith and Fear in Flushing Greg Prince makes the point that a return to banner day  in 2012 as an old fashion double header should be brought back. I am on board with this 1,000 %. Back in the day a bed sheet s with rally cries for the Mets used to hang in the upper deck just about every home game. Those that weren’t hanging we’re paraded through the field level with regularity. When it came to imagination and humorous prose on a bed sheet, no one matched the Mets fans. It wasn’t just at the ballpark either.

When the Mets went to their first post season in 1969, I took a white bed sheet and with a can of blue and a can of orange spray paint went into the alley way of the apartment building we lived in and sprayed in alternate blue and orange LET’S GO METS KRANEPOOL  7 SEAVER 41. I left it to dry and then brought it upstairs and hung it across our fire escape. Mine was just one of the hundreds of banners draped on fire escapes in Boro Park Brooklyn. It was truly an AMAZIN’ sight.

AS PAT MISCH PITCHES, OLLIVER PEREZ WILL DE-SHELL SUNFLOWER SEEDS

If I worked in the Mets payroll department, when it’s time to cut the players paychecks, I would put Robert Allen Dickey’ name on the check for Ollie Perez and put Perez name on Dickey’ digits. Obviously OP has no shame or is just as ignorant as we Mets fans make him out to be, that he still picks up his check for doing absolutely nothing positive for this team while R.A. Dickey goes out start after start and lives the journeyman’s dream season in the Big Leagues.

At some point doesn’t professional pride resonate with Perez, where he sees that going to Buffalo and then heading to St. Lonesome in the winter to work on being a pitcher, instead of the thrower he has become? Then again you would have to have a little bit going on between your ears and OP seems to be lacking in that, so he is relegated to the Mets version of the NYC Board of Education’s “rubber room” where they send teacher’s who can no longer handle a classroom and pay them full salary and benefits while they figure out what to do with them.

If I were the manager of the Mets, I would take all of Perez’ belongings from his locker and leave them in the janitor’s closet and give the locker to Pat Misch. How is OP not embarrassed by the fact, the club never even gave it a thought of giving him the ball today against the Phillies ? Ollie Perez, have you no shame?

For the first time in his Mets career, Luis Castillo and Mets fans are on the same page, yes Luis, you got to go! What other team has players begging for their release or trade and are STILL ALLOWED TO PLAY!!!!!! Castillo and Francoeur want to leave, so why haven’t they been granted their wish?

It’s not often these days we hear from Omar Minaya, and when we do, we realize why he shouldn’t speak in public. When asked what Frankie Rodriguez said to him about the incident with his babies moma’s daddy, Omar the Orator said:

“He said he feels really bad he let the organization down. He let himself down and his teammates down,” Minaya said. “To me, that’s an apology. Did he use that word? I will not tell you that, but I will tell you that he does not feel good.”

Omar, what the fuck are you talking about? Did he apologize or not? And did you, as the GM of the team, tell him he had better apologize to his teammates especially to those teammate whose wives and children were in that room to witness what happened? I would hope that Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes, who both said their wives and kids were there at the time all hell broke lose, would confront him on what happened. Prove me wrong Mets players, I say no one has the balls to call out K-Rod on this.

I hope Pat Misch pitches a great game today as he has earned the right for this start and anything that puts it up Mets management’s ass is fine with me.

This is what is has come down to for me. Mets management has taken a forty six year Mets fan and has me rooting for the organization to fall flat on it’s face. I want Ollie Perez to pitch and get shelled. I want Jeff Francoeur to play every day and strike out four times a game. I want Jerry Manuel to keep lifting starting pitchers for an ineffective bullpen. I want David Wright to go to ownership and ask them “where are we going as an organization so I know if I should play out my contract and go elsewhere”. I want some other financial shyster to come along and steal the rest of the Skill Sets money so they are forced to sell the team (You suck Bernie Madoff why couldn’t wipe out the Wilpon’s I would have spoken up for you at your parole hearing if you did ) I want to burn this fucker to the ground and start over. I so fucking sick and tired and being so fucking sick and tired about this disaster of an organization.

Oh in case you haven’t picked up on it, I’m back from vacation.

OLIVER PEREZ REFUSES TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM

Who thinks Oliver Perez to the bullpen is a good plan? I didn’t think so. If you thought Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis , Armando Benitez  and Doug Sisk were the most hated relievers in Mets history OP could be jump to the number one spot on that list just not just for ineffectiveness but for his out right selfishness by not taking assignment to the minors.

I’d love to kill the Mets for not having the balls to ship OP’s sorry ass out to Buffalo but their hands are tied with OP having to give his ok for the demotion and it looked like he was ready to do so but Scott Bora$ got in his ear and OP revered course. Too bad.

OP can’t work on his problems out of the pen. J-Man won’t use him in a big spot so his days will be sitting idle in the pen eating licorice and sunflower seeds. At least in Buffalo he stays in the rotation and works with pitching coach Rickey Bones to get his mechanics straighten out.  Again, what will it take for OP to do the right thing, blowing a relief assignment and getting humiliated by the $iti Field crowd? It shouldn’t come to that.
