WANT TO PUT YOUR TEAM IN CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION ? WE HAVE THE MISSING PART YOU NEED !

It feels like the Mets are in a holding pattern as is the fan base and yours truly as we wait for the spike show to drop a/k/a the trade of Carlos Beltran.

It’s not a matter of if but a matter of when and how much teams with post season aspirations are willing to pay and by pay I mean with a top notch prospect. Sandy Alderson has made it known that he will cover the Beltran nut for the remainder of his contract but he must have one of your finest farm hands in return.

So, how bad do the Giants need Beltran’s bat to repeat as World Champions? How much will Theo Epstein pay to add a solid bat and right fielder to put the fear of ash into the American League? How about the Phuck Phaces? I have no problem dealing with the enemy but I doubt they have the prospect we need to deal. Step right up those who feel they can make a run at the World’s Championship but be prepared to pay the freight as Sandy Alderson means business.

If I had my druthers, I’d love to see Beltran go to the Old Towne Team and contribute to another post season and with any luck a World Series championship.  He deserves it.

Terry Collins passed his first test early in the season getting the Mets off the matt after a 5-13 start to go 42-35 after that with a team, the main stream media ridiculed as less than major league quality. Collins went from a question mark choice as manager to a Manager of the Year candidate. The final exam for Collins and his new found leadership qualities will come as soon as Beltran is sent away.

As we of the Blue and Orange persuasion know too well, in prior seasons, poorly managed Mets teams would lay down and died in the second half of seasons. This was due to the Laissez-Faire attitude of the previous field bosses.  How Collins gets this Mets team to finish will be what Mets fans will remember most of this season. I don’t mean wins and losses I’m talking about giving 100 % busting ass to win games. If this team continues to play like it has with passion and determination it has all season then we’ll know the “same ol’ Mets” are no more.

COSTAS/MICHAELS OR COHEN/DARLING ?

I guess I missed the vote to have Al Michaels and Bob Costas call the 4th and 5th innings of tonight’s Mets-Giants game on SNY, while Gary Cohen and Ron Darling go over to the MLB Network to call the innings in their broadcast booth.  I don’t mind Michaels who is more associated with the NFL( and the 1980 USA hockey team as well) than he is with baseball even though he was a top notch baseball play by play man early in his career. I could do without Costas who is way too pretentious for me. I subscribe to the if it ”ain’t broke don’t fix it” school of thought especially when it comes to watching the Mets.

What a tragedy last night in Arlington, where Josh Hamilton went to flip a ball to a fan after the third out of the inning and the fan leaning over to catch it, fell 20 ft landed on his head and died. The fan a 39 year old fireman was at the game with his son who was reported to be 8 or 9 years old. This is heartbreaking for the family but also for Hamilton who was reported to be distraught over the event.  I’m not one to be a reactionary type when freak accidents occur but I think it’s time to stop the ball toss in the stands. I’ve written here many times how I hate the bullshit Pepsi Patrol t-shirt launches into the stands. People turn into total assholes when some two dollar t shirt is blasted into the stands. It’s totally ridiculous. The same with foul balls. I have never caught a foul ball at a game and I could care less if I ever do. I have five full buckets of baseballs in my garage it doesn’t matter to me if it’s a ball from a Major League game. I’d rather keep all my bones and extremities intact than have a ball with Bud Selig’s name on it.

STRIKE A POSE AND WELCOME BACK THE INTERN FROM VOGUE

Former Ranger and antagonist of Fat Marty of Newark, Sean Avery returns to MSG tonight with his new team, the Big and Bright Stars from Dallas and from the missives out of 33rd St and 7 Ave there isn’t much love lost in the Blueshirt locker room over the departure of Avery. It will be intriguing to hear the Garden Faithful reaction to one of the biggest fan favorites not named Fotiu or Domi.

On MSG’s Hockey Night Live Saturday night Ken Danyko stated the he had heard from some Rangers that team was glad that Avery was not re-signed for as much as he added on the ice he was an irritant off it for the club. All I know is as a fan he was a top notch pain in the ass to the opposition especially to the Devils and Fat Marty and when he was out with an elbow injury he sat in the Blue Seats and bought Heinken’s for the fans.  How do you not cheer for a guy like that?

Maybe Avery was a clubhouse lawyer but I think a lot of this team unity is more of #68 being gone than losing Avery.
