Freddy Says He’s Flush But are Mets Fans Buying It ?

Poor Freddy Skill Sets, whenever he speaks Mets fans shout “BULLSHIT”. Every spring, Freddy usually with his sidekick/brother in law Uncle Saul Katz, putz around on a golf cart and stop long enough to tell the main stream media that covers the Mets that everything surrounding the team is sunshine and fucking lollipops. This spring is no exception except for Freddy tag team partner Uncle Saul not in attendance.

There is nothing more side splitting funny than following along on my Twitter timeline when Freddy gives his State of the Mets Spring Speech. You know the old expression “If bullshit were electricity you’d be a powerhouse”? Well, if I had a buck for every time the word “bullshit” came up in Tweets on my timeline, I’d have enough money to buy a ML outfield and donate it to the Freddy’s club.

Freddy told the masses today at Port St. Lonesome that he and his family are flush with cash, thank you very much for asking. Between the real estate businesses and his stock holdings rebounding and the success of SNY (which puzzles the living shit out me because other than Mets games what the hell is there to watch on the network? Beer Money???? Loudmouths???? Suckitude TV) has helped the Skill Sets Empire to rise again. In fact, Freddy says that times are so good, we Mets fans could see the payroll rise to the heights it was at during the Minaya administration, when Ex-GM Omar Minaya was handing out overinflated contracts like he ran Haliburton. And to that the Mets fan base rises as one and replies “BULLSHIT”

Poor Freddy not matter how he tries to convince Mets fan that he has enough Dead Presidents to sign players that will make major contributions to his team and make Septembers in Flushing meaningful again, no one believes him. It’s got to suck to be Freddy.

Maybe Freddy is telling the truth, maybe there is cash to be spent. It seems the Mets were willing to give Michael Bourn 4 years and $48 million dollars to be a Met but when Bourn and his agent wanted that 5th year vested option that it seems would be easy to attain, Sandy Alderson pulled the plug on the negotiation leaving the Cleveland Indians to get bamboozled into give giving Bourn/Boras what they wanted. Can’t say I blame Alderson for not going 5 years on Bourn.

Alderson was very forthcoming with Pope Mikey I when he stated that they miscalculated on the dealing with Scott Hairston. It seems from listening to Alderson, Justin Upton was his number one target to trade for and he thought he had enough trade chips to make a deal but it seems Kevin Towers insisted on either Zack Wheeler or Matt Harvey as headliners in any deal for Upton, which of course killed that dialog. So Plan B was go after Bourn but that draft pick, slot money and vested option became a major road block and that went south as well. During all this Hairston signed with the Cubs and as Alderson said letting Hairston go wasn’t due to contract reasons but playing times issues as it seems the Mets GM was sure of landing either Upton or Bourn and instead he has neither.

Now for this next part, you will have to put on your Freddy Says Decoder Ring because I’m pretty sure Freddy is speaking on code or in tongues, I’m not sure:

“I think we would anticipate being big investors if that were appropriate,” Wilpon said. “That depends on what the market is. If the market is such that that’s where we have to be to be competitive and winners, yeah.

Let’s see the Mets need better players and since many of the better players in the organization are barely old enough to shave I’d say yeah to be competitive you will have to invested in some proven major league talent and that will cost money, but if Freddy is on the level, he claims he has the cash to make that dash.

“This is, to me, a breakeven business. I always strive to break even. I’m not looking to make any money. I strive to break even. So if [fans] don’t show up, that’s hard. So you have to balance it. We fed it pretty good the last five or six years. I think if the market was such, yes, the payroll could go up, but not to just have payroll go up so you can write headlines — if that, in fact, improves the team.

OK now this is Bullshit.  When did the New York Mets become a no-profit organization? What did you feed that last five or six years? Your attorney’s? CRG Partners to access the damage of the Madoff mess? Sure wasn’t invested in baseball players.

“I don’t know what the market will be at that point. But the payroll will be commensurate with anything we’ve ever done because we can do it. Remember, the people have to come to the ballpark obviously. If you have a competitive team, they will. Everything that was in the past, that you guys saw the pain that we went through, is gone. It’s gone.

Freddy, Freddy, Freddy there are only a few of us diehards left who support your team in good times and bad. You have lost a whole generation of fans to the Bronx Bastards. If you have the financial wherewithal you claim now would be a good time to show it off. The amount of diehard fans for any sports franchise in this town is much less than the bandwagon “I love a New York event “crowd. If what you are telling us is correct and you are ready to go back to being Big Bad Freddy and make an investment in quality Major League players that will have your team in contention for a pennant and GULP!!! A World Championship, Citi Field will be overflowing with customers on a nightly basis. Remember the 80”s Fred? Remember 3 million customers making the Shea Stadium turnstiles wiz like a carousel of cash ? Remember the television ratings that boosted a thrid rate TV station called SportsChannel into a must buy for FOX Sports? Break even? Freddy if you do this right and you are being honest with us, you and Uncle Saul will be farting through silk boxers my friend. JUST DON”T BULLSHIT US AGAIN!!!!!

Welcome To Baseball Purgatory

After sparing with Mets fans on Twitter yesterday I’m exhausted.  It seems I’m in the minority when it comes to the Mets inactivity after yesterday’s trade deadline as I have no problem with Sandy Alderson staying with a pat hand. I really am stumped as to what the very vocal majority of Mets fans expected him to do via the trade route? I’m baffled because the majority agrees that Alderson should not trade any of the best prospects in the Mets fame system, so where exactly are the trade chips he needs to make a deal and with the many needs that the big league club has, how was trading Scott Hairston going to fix them.

When did Scott Hairston turn into Frank Robinson? What do some of you folks think Hairston would bring back in return in a trade? Hairston has been great this year and right now is the best outfield the Mets have but in reality he’s a platoon player who hits only lefties and plays plausible defense. I’m sure Alderson got a good chuckle as the fans called for him to trade Hairston and get back a top prospect.  I don’t know if this is Mets fans being delusional over Hairston’ talent or if these same fans were real big Beltran haters? You don’t get Zack Wheeler type prospects for Scott Hairston; in fact according to Alderson you can’t get a top 30 prospect for Hairston either.

Now the debate is why didn’t Alderson act earlier to add more competent relievers to this awful bullpen? How dare Sandy Alderson not be smart enough to see in June that the Mets would go into the tank in July?  What’s worse is the Mets fan lets’ the beat writers take them for fools by goading them into putting their stupidity on display with mindless tweets and uninspired game stories, I love reading the Tweets of Mets fan who parrot what they read in a newspaper or hear on talk radio, it gave me incentive to unfollow a lot of folks who clog my timeline with inane buillshit. The same deep thinkers who all off season yapped about how bad the Mets were and how they were not going to any game at Citi Field and said the myself and other fans were schmucks for supporting this team and buying tickets and putting money in the ownerships pocket are now clamoring for Alderson to trade guys like Scott Hairston or Daniel Murphy for Mike Trout or Bryce Harper. All y’all need a big tall glass of Shut The Fuck Up.

The biggest problem the Mets front office has is the team is not good enough to be in a heavenly direction to a post season berth and they’re not hellish enough to finish at the bottom of the standings and secure a top 5 pick in the June Entry Draft. The Mets are in baseball purgatory, hovering around .500 not good enough to matter and not bad enough to ignore.

Did the front office fail at rebuilding the bullpen ? Yes and I’m sure the GM would tell you that himself but when the owners give you Goodwill money, it’s hard to come back with Nordstrom quality merchandise.

Without a doubt this off season will be the defining moment of the Alderson era as Mets GM as there is so much work to be done to fix the big league team from a whole new outfield to finding a way to make Jason Bay go away to putting together a solid pitching staff from 1-11.  But that can wait as there are still two full months left to this season and because I’m such an asshole I plan on spending as much time as I can watching the Mets from home and at Citi Field.

BE CAREFUL METS HATERS, YOUR SNARK MAY COME BACK TO BITE YOU

Ok, Ok, I get it the Mets are broke and the Skill Sets are in denial as their empire is crumbling all around them, so can all the copycat writers stop with the regurgitation of the Skill Sets financial quagmire please. How the hell can anyone write about the rise and fall of Freddy and Saul after Howard Megdal ,  who has written extensively on this subject, put all the pieces together in his book Wilpon’s Folly. Everything that has been dished out by other writers is just a total rip off of Howard’s hard work. There is without a doubt more honor amongst bloggers than there is among the main stream media.

Let’s set another record straight as well as we get closer to reporting date of spring training. The club that will report to St. Lonesome in a week is not the re-incarnation of the 1962 Mets. They are not the 1986 Mets either.  This is not the worst team in baseball either; right now the Mets are a middle of the pack team. Sure the Mets will be a disadvantage playing in the stacked NL East but after what we’ve seen of this club last year do you really think they are going to lay down or go through the motions? Do you think Terry Collins or Sandy Alderson will tolerate that? While on the subject of Sandy Alderson, Twitter is all a twitter over the GM tweeting some self-depreciating humor about the club; some folks are outraged over the snarky tweets that Alderson has tweeted. I guess those folks just don’t get it, Alderson possess an outstanding dry sense of humor and is using social media as a platform as satire on all the comments about the teams money situation. Got get with the program folks this is the thinking fans GM.

Look, I’d be as happy as any Mets fan is the Skill Sets sold the club and moved on, never to be heard from again but I’ve been rooting for this team for too long and my love of baseball too deep to let their difficulties spoil my summer. As I said in an earlier post I’m rooting for Daniel Murphy and R.A Dickey and after reading the piece in the NY Daily News on Jason Bay, I’ll root hard for him as well. Sure this team pisses me off a lot, I’m mad as hell that the team doesn’t have money for starting pitching depth or a decent left handed bat for the bench but as angry as I am, I can’t wait for the first spring game out of St. Lonesome on SNY.

I have no right to tell people how to spend their money and no one has the right to do that to me, if you feel not going to Citi Field or watching the team on SNY or buying Mets merchandise will drive the Skill Sets out of power, that’s your right but for me not going to Citi Field or watching SNY or listening to games on WFAN or buying a Mets 50th Anniversary jersey  would just make me fucking miserable (or more fucking miserable than a normal day)it’s what I love to do.

If you want to root against the Skill Sets that’s fine but to root against the Mets and by the Mets I mean the players, coaches and manager, that’s just plain stupid.

Remember all your favorite MSM columnists in this town were ready to burry Tom Coughlin, Jerry Reece and the coaching staff of the NY Football Giants  in December, today they have Coughlin in the Hall of Fame, Reece is a genius and the coaching staff was right to stay the course. Two weeks ago, the media was running Mike D’Antoni out of town on a rail, Melo was out with injury and Amare had a family tragedy to deal with so the Knicks were finished, But, out of nowhere came Jeremy Lin and now the media is ready to kill Melo and Amare if they don’t come back and mesh with the rest of their teammates as Jeremy Lin has brought his Harvard Chemistry Set to turn the 2012 Knicks into 1969 Knicks.  So take note of all the MSM folks who are predicting that the Mets will suck this coming season and when they become the surprise team in MLB, remember who called bullshit first when the fish wraps start comparing Terry Collins to Billy Martin as his “gritty, gutsy”  Mets win more games than they lose.

THESE R.A. THE GOOD OLD DAYS

My late mother was sitting with a few old biddie friends of hers, who were lamenting about how they missed the “good old days”.  After they were done with their trip down memory lane, my mother laced into them telling them how stupid they sounded, “don’t you realize that you’re living in the greatest time ever”? She marveled in the fact that back in the “good old days” whenever she wanted to call one of her sisters in Ireland, she had to call the operator, who in turn called an overseas operator, who them needed to know the number you were calling and what number you were calling from, then there was about a 20-30 minute staring contest at the phone, willing it to ring so you could have a 5-10 min conversation (it was expensive to call Europe, how much? I couldn’t tell you, but I know it was a lot because when my father opened the phone bill he’d scream out “JESUS CHRIST, CAN’T YOU JUST WRITE A LETTER”???? ) before she passed away, in her late 90’s she spoke to relatives via Skype and followed family activities via Facebook.  She proved the old biddies wrong again.

I bring all this up because we have this great new phenomenon of social media bringing more and more people together. Politian’s, actors, writers, and athletes have taken to Twitter to give their views on any and all subjects and to interact with fans. Don’t like what someone wrote about your favorite team? Find their Twitter account and let them know about it. Watching a game and a player comes out the game and you don’t know why? Go on Twitter,  as a beat writer will fill you in.  Articles get linked, opinions are expressed and then you have without a doubt the REAL, most interesting man in the world (not the old broken down drunk in the Dos Equis ads), Robert Allen Dickey, of the NY Mets holding a daily Q and A session with fans.

Dickey opened a Twitter account this past week and already has knocked out over 1, 000 Tweets plus he has over 7,000 followers (Disciples of Dickey)who check their timeline waiting for the tweet alerting them that R.A. is here and will be taking any and all questions. The questions run from what it’s like playing baseball in NYC, to Star Wars trivia, to whether Justin Turner (he too a great Twitter-er under the handle of @redturn2) is a natural redhead (the tweeter asked if Turners “carpet matched the drapes” to which Dickey tweeted back to keep it clean and Turner replied “hahaha” I’m telling you this is great stuff) to how Nick Evans cares for his hair.

We’ve come a long way from the days of sending your favorite player fan mail and having some clubhouse guy send you back a letter thanking you for writing with an autographed picture, always signed by the clubbie.

Got to go, you never know when the curtain will rise on The Dickey Show!

THIS IS MUCH WORSE THAN WEINER-GATE

Now I know how Anthony (See My ) Wiener feels, as my Twitter account must have been tampered with yesterday. Here I was in dark despair over Mike Pelfrey and his ineffective pitching performance but always holding out hope that my beloved NY Mets would overcome a 7 run deficit.

As always I was optimistic that the message Terry Collins sent his team on Wednesday night would wake up his team and it would lead to a late game surge even though some of the more pessimistic Mets fans thought was an insurmountable deficit , I never wavered from my support of my ball club.  That’s why whoever got into my Twitter account and wrote some nasty Tweets during the game yesterday infuriates me to no end, I mean I would never ever sent such Tweets:

 STUNNING!!!! Lick this Pelf!

how about re-location? #MoveTheMets

How about Terry Collins comes into post game presser with suit case and says I’M DONE

Does Winnipeg want a baseball team too #relocatetheMets

Maybe Old School Dan Werthan is discussing candle stick holders with Pelfrey

If I’m Terry Collins I leave Pelfrey out there to take the beating make him grow up god damnit

Can you believe those Tweets? I will not rest until I find the fiend you got to my Twitter account and wrote such blasphemous ranting’s. Unlike Rep. Weiner I KNOW these are not my Tweets! Seriously this is much worse than having your pee-pee displayed in public.  I am quite confident that the my attorney’s that I have retained from the highly respected “White Shoe” law firm Beatum, Cheatum and Fuckum will find the scalawag responsible for this invasion of my Twitter account.

METS FANS GETTING A BAD REPUTATION

Wayne Coffey in today’s NY Daily News has a story of former Mets pitcher, Pete Falcone’ son Joey and his plight to get back to playing baseball and leading finding himself after a serving three tours in Afghanistan.

Joey Falcone at 24 years old, has enrolled at the College of Staten Island and is a member of the CSI baseball team.  The story is not so much about him regaining his hitting prowess but more of how he left home to join the Marines and the atrocities of war that he encountered.

I guess I should thank the Mets fans twits who verified my post yesterday about the venom they spew at the Mets on Twitter. Seems I’m not the only one who is fed up with the fan reaction toward the team as Shannon of The Mets Police posted about the vile tweets towards R.A. Dickey yesterday and also Mike Vaccaro tweeted about it as well. Yes, R.A. Dickey is having a miserable season so far but the attacks on Dickey are just plain ignorant. Besides, some of you twits, your stupidity is getting noticed, that’s not good.

There is some kind of day of outrage planed at Citi Field to let fans send a message to management that Jose Reyes has to be a Mets 4 Life. The rally will most likely be attended by the same fans that called Reyes a lazy malcontent the last couple of years when his play dropped off due to illness and injury. These will also be the same fans who will call for Sandy Alderson’s head when Reyes falls short of stellar play in year two of his five year deal. I’ve been around you Mets fans too long, I’ve seen your act and it’s quite tiresome.

Far be it from me to look in a neighbor’s window, but our friends up in the South Bronx seem to be having some rough internal troubles. Can you imagine a big league player asking out of the lineup a half-hour before first pitch because he feels “disrespected” because his limp bat is at the bottom of the lineup? Even though this player is not only past his prime but should be collecting a pension, not a paycheck?  I would not be surprised if one the past their prime players in the Bronx flip out at their locker because of the wire hangers.

THE SANDY ALDERSON/METS BLOGGERS CONFERENCE CALL

I was fortunate to be invited to a conference call last night with Sandy Alderson and my fellow Mets bloggers. This is the second cc Alderson has done with bloggers and he seems genuinely happy to talk to us and values our input about the team. As great as it was talking to the Mets GM, the biggest kick for me was reading all the Tweets from other baseball bloggers who were soooooooooooooo jealous that we were granted access to Alderson and reading how they wish the head of the team they root for would give the same courtesy. Imagine that, the same wise ass’ who like to joke and make sarcastic remarks about the Mets, are envious of Mets bloggers.

I’m slowly getting used to the frank and honest way Alderson does business, whereas in the past, I’ve always felt you had to read between the lines to find the truth out of anything coming out of Flushing , but now it seems we’re getting the straight skinny from the Mets GM.

On the release of Castillo and Perez, Alderson said that to some extent fan sentiment was a factor in releasing both players, more so in Castillo’s case as the front office had hoped that Perez could make some kind of contribution. Alderson felt it was only fair that the new regime look at both players first hand instead of relying on hearsay.

With Emaus winning the 2nd base job, it’s clear his Rule 5 status helped him in winning the job over Justin Turner who had options. Alderson said that Emaus would only make the team as a starting baseman and not a bench player.  Alderson said he was happy that Emaus has come around with the bat and has shown signs of being effective turning the DP.

My question to Alderson was about the fight for the last spot in the bullpen, but first I added a bit of editorializing:

“Between the offseason and spring, it seems that there’s a minority in the fan base and a majority of the mainstream media that likes to dwell on the negative things that go on with the organization. They seem not to want to talk about that the team offensively has been terrific this spring, it seems that batters have been taking to Dave Hudgens’s way of hitting, a lot of walks, a lot of doubles, and the defense has been pretty good, too, maybe very good this spring, but the big thing is the pitching. The pitching has been outstanding this spring and hopefully it will carry over to the season. Now you spoke about the bullpen, and you do have decisions to make. How close is it in that seventh spot? It seems that we kind of figured the first six guys are in that pen, and that last spot, that seventh spot, seems to be the one that’s up in the air. How are you going back and forth on that decision?”

Here is Alderson’ reply:

“That’s a very good question. If you look at the guys who are competing for the last two or three spots. You’ve got a young kid, a Rule 5 pick who is untested, who has improved, we think, greatly since the beginning of camp, at least mechanically, has shown a lot of command, has shown good velocity, and we think has real upside. As compared to somebody like Jason Isringhausen, who is a veteran presence and not only because of what he can do on the mound but how he might influence the rest of that bullpen, is an attraction for us. Then you’ve got a couple of guys, [Blaine] Boyer, Manny Acosta, who are very, very close in terms of overall results, but they get there in different ways. Boyer is basically a ground ball pitcher. Acosta has the livelier fastball and is more of a strikeout guy, maybe a little more command, but occasionally gives up a three-run homer as he did yesterday. So not only is it a close competition, but interestingly, each of those guys represents a very different choice beyond how they perform, and that’s what we’re trying to balance right now is the desire to win, the feel-good story of somebody like Jason Isringhausen, who has also performed well, against the potential of somebody like Pedro Beato, and then the two guys that we brought in. And we haven’t resolve those yet. We just had a meeting today with some of the front office people here with the coaches and Terry Collins and we resolved a few things but the bullpen is still unresolved.”

The problem is Boyer ,who has had a great spring, has an out clause in his contract to become a free agent if he doesn’t make the OD 25 man roster. In a perfect world I believe Alderson would take Izzy north and hope Boyer doesn’t get a ML contract from another team and he signs him to a minor league deal. The odds of that are slim.

There were great  questions  from all who participated and to read the entire transcript check out the post Eric Simon of Amazin’ Avenue   put together in detail of the conference call.

TIME FOR A MEDIA INTEGRITY TEST

I’m sure by now most of you have either heard or read the attack article by T.J. Simmers of the LA Times about Marcus Thames. There have been a whole lot of opinions on how Simmers went after Thames with the nastiest of attitudes, basically calling Thames are no talent bum and also calling out Don Matingly as being clueless on how to manage a big league team. If you have ever read Simmers columns before this one, you know he plays the Angry Old White Guy perfectly and he takes pride in being an asshole.  As much of an asshole as Simmers may be, I have to give him credit for being an accountable asshole.

Everything Simmers said about Thames and Matingly he said to their faces and both knew it doesn’t pay to argue with and asshole, especially an Angry Old White Asshole but again he wrote what he wrote and walked into the Dodger Clubhouse the next day to face the men he besmirched. Got give him credit for that.

Yesterday on Twitter, I got into a bit of a “Tweet debate” with Evan Roberts of WFAN. Roberts sent out this Tweet that I felt made him look like an ignoramus:

“ I’m certainly not a booer, but the guy I will be first to get on if he doesn’t perform would be Jason Bay…”

My response to Roberts was:

“why would you boo Bay? by the way have you ever been in a pro clubhouse or locker room to interview players?”

The reason for the second part of my question was, Roberts and his partner Joe Benigno love to rip players, managers/coaches , GM’s and owners on the air, which is fine but I never remember either of them ever saying they have been in a locker room or clubhouse of the area teams to confront the folks they’ve blasted. I felt the statement that Roberts made was unbelievably stupid.

The Tweets went back and forth with Roberts refusing to answer my question of facing the guys he criticizes but when he finally answered, I felt bad for him:

@kranepool You think higher of me and my co workers then I do…most of these players don’t know or care who I am..

My Tweet before that was about Roberts doing a mid morning show on a 50K watt NYC radio station, and doesn’t think the players know who he is? I call bullshit. I think Roberts is either scared or intimidated by the folks he goes after.  Roberts loves to tell listeners that he buys his own tickets to Mets and Nets games and would rather watch the game in the stands than in a press box. Nothing wrong with that. But why not go into the clubhouse after a game and talk to the players or manager/coaches about the game or team’s performance? If Roberts put as much time and effort into his craft as he did in his Twitter baseball games, maybe the players would know who he is.

I think the reason I was so stunned by Roberts’ comments is the fact that the Mets have been gracious in granting Mets bloggers access to players, Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson and I’m not going to lie any time I can talk to someone affiliated with the Mets, I jump at it.

I’m very critical of the ownership of the Mets but believe me I would love to sit down with Fred, Jeff and Dave Howard for an interview.  If they wanted to rip me for sucky writing and poor grammar that would be fine with me, hell they could tell me to hit the gym and drop a few pounds, I’d be glad to take it because if you dish it out, you have to take it, but seriously a sit down between myself and management would allow them to see where I’m coming from as a long time Mets fan who just wants to see the team he roots for given more respect,  work on building a winner, and treating the Mets fans better that they do.  No screaming or yelling just conversation and debate.  I can act like adult when I have to.

I all come back to accountability, I stand by whatever I write and I have no problem going into the clubhouse and talking to whoever I have a beef with.

How the media tide has turned, it’s the bloggers now who are now the most responsible reporters of news.

DO THE SKILL SETS HAVE ANY SHAME?

I don’t know maybe I think a little differently than some folks. If me and my family were embroiled in a fight to save everything we’ve worked for and the embarrassment we’ve faced due to either stupidity, nativity or out right lying and I owned a baseball team in the biggest media market in the world, I’d kind of lay low for a while and not want to have to answer questions about an on going court case that I really can’t answer or baseball questions that I don’t know how to answer. I’d stay out of the public eye. Unfortunately Jeffey Skill Sets doesn’t think like that.  Here was Jeffey in all his glory and bad hair cut meeting the media at St. Lonesome.

Wouldn’t it be in the best interest of the organization to not have a side show on the day pitchers and catchers report? Especially when you are having a tough time selling tickets? Wouldn’t be in the best interest of the organization to just let Sandy Alderson do the talking this spring and season as well?

Just when I’m getting stoked for Mets baseball and decided to purchase a flex pack ticket plan, I see this video and think hummmmmmmmmm is buying a ticket plan a wise choice? I’m sure I’m not they only one who is thinking this way as well.

Besides Jeffey being there do I have to hear about our domestic violence abuser having his Lamborghini shipped down on a flat bed truck to spring training?  Then hear how great it was that he spoke to the media and a couple of day time yackers on radio? Why is it the guys I want to hear from the least I hear from the most?

The beat guy at the Daily Lupica likes to break Mets fans balls with some stupid Tweets. During last season I guess I tweeted him to many times telling him what a hack he was and how he seemed upset he wasn’t covering the Phillies anymore so he blocked me from his Twitter account which is no big deal to me but I would think it would be a big deal to his bosses at the Daily Lupica since I stopped buying the paper and I never link a story from their site. From the tweets I’ve read today it seems this beat guy has taken to calling Jose Reyes (Michael our resident Highlander fan, you better sit down for this one) a “future Yankee”. Mets tweeters have been outraged and have started a campaign on Twitter to unfollow him. That’s great but take it a step further, don’t link any stories of his or anything in the Daily Lupica on your sites or on Twitter. I ‘m sure Daily Lupica Sports Editor Teri Thompson will not be happy about that.

Ed Marcus/Rusty Jr. has number 21 in his list of the Top 50 Mets of All Time and this one is a bit of a controversial choice as he didn’t spend many years with the Mets and the years he did while showing flashes of brilliance from time to time didn’t exactly make a great contribution. But when he left he was legendary.

I had a great time conversing with Joe Demayo of  PSL to Flushing on the THIS CALL TO THE BULLPEN podcast today. Check it out here or on iTunes

NOW THE SKILL SETS HAVE TO BACK THERE WORDS

So the inevitable happened this afternoon at $iti Field when Freddy and Jeffey Skill Sets put the fan base out of it’s misery by firing Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel. First off, can the MSM put the violins away and give Mets fans a break about the termination of both of these men?  I’ve never seen the media make a fuss over auto workers or teachers losing their jobs like they are about Minaya and Manuel. Minaya is leaving with a $2.5 mil golden parachute and by the way, it looks like Minaya is totally gone from the organization as he stated in his only as Omar can way, that he was offered a position in the org but turned it down as he feels a new GM should pick his own front office. He didn’t rule out a return to the Mets in some capacity but he is free to find employment elsewhere.

Minaya will find a job as a scout or player development person and by the way, I have never seen a guy so happy to get the ax like Minaya, he kept making the goofy grin after answering questions that quite frankly has me wondering if he is either relieved to the get the hell out Flushing or he’s an idiot.

Manuel will be fine as well, he will get a coaching job at a nice Christian school where he can play his Gandhi act with some Evangelical baseball players and they all go out and win one for the Baby Jesus.

With all the tweets I’ve seen on Twitter about telling fans to remember that “these are two good men who lost their jobs” and yada, yada, yada. Spare me the nice guy bullshit.  I’m sick and tired of the lets’ play nice mentality of this organization. Enough of Jeffey and Freddy,  who spewed the same old line of horseshit about how they love this franchise and how Freddy Skill Sets hurts after every defeat, wah, wah, wah cry me a fucking river. I’m sick and tired of talk, as the old saying goes ,if bullshit was electricity, the Mets would be a fucking powerhouse.  Give me a guy like Bill Belichick who is hated by the media because he’s a world class prick, but he is a championship winning world class prick.

Jeffey, Freddy, Uncle Saul and Dave the Shyster, you have no idea how much pain me and my brothers and sisters in Mets fandom feel.  You don’t wear Mets caps or Mets jerseys or jackets and have people say “you’re brave to wear that” I’m not brave you asshole, I’m loyal.  No matter how bad this team is and how badly the $iti Field personnel treat me and the constant urge to stalk Jeffey Skill Sets just to smack the shit out of him, I stick with this team though thick and thin and as a guy rooting for the Mets for 46 years there’s been a whole lot of thin but I still buy tickets, I still wear my Mets regalia with pride and I still stick up for this team when it’s attack by other fans.  I can bitch and moan about this team and organization every day at this site but I still count the days until spring training and the day tickets go on sale and make sure I secure my tickets for opening day. All I ask in return is for the ownership to make an effort to bring in a front office and players who have as much pride in the New York Mets as this fan base does.

I hope the Skill Sets were sincere in the message they portrayed today, that they want a solid GM who is progressive in his approach to building a baseball team. Minaya is a dinosaur whose way of running a baseball team is way in the past; it’s time to get this organization into the 21st century and use statistics along with scouting to build a solid organization. No more throwing money at players where you’re the only bidder in the auction. No more throwing millions at 30+ year old players who are as washed up as hypodermic needles on the Coney Island sand, no more turning the other cheek , time to step up for your teammates. The next 3-4 weeks may be the most critical in the history of the Mets franchise, let’s just hope we are not here this time three years from now regurgitating all this “we want to win” mantra. Please Skill Sets I’m begging you ,hire a Baseball Czar and let the man/woman whomever, run the baseball ops as they see fit.  Actions speak louder than words Freddy prove me wrong about you and your dopey son, please prove me wrong.
