NEWS: Mets Still Dangling R.A. Dickey as Trade Bait

VIEW: Sandy Alderson knows his team is dire need of a front line catcher and at least one power hitting corner outfielder. Two get either prize possession will not be easy since he is working with a lack of trade chips and money, so what’s a GM to do? In Alderson’s case it seems he’s using Dickey as bait to lure in the sharks just to see how hungry they are. Reports from Nashville have the Mets talking to about eight teams about Dickey. Some are serious some are just bullshiters, the Red Sox and Blue Jays seem to be the most interested and have the most to give back in trade.

The Jays and Red Sox are flush with catchers, a position that Mets lack major league talent at (sorry Josh Thole) and outfield help again a deficient part of the Mets player personal roster.  Alderson is not going to give Dickey away and in fact he may not be giving Dickey away at all. Like I mentioned above, Dickey could be the bait to get the sharks out in the open to make his pitch for big time talent back in trade. I see where Alderson has asked the Red Sox for their two top prospects, shortstop Xander Bogaerts and center fielder Jackie Bradley. Bogaerts is shortstop that has power on offense and great range on defense. Bradley has great instincts in the field and covers a ton of ground in the outfield, gets on base by any means necessary and has (cover your eyes sabrmetricans) outstanding make up and is an on field leader.  Seems to me it would take more than a 38 year old knuckleballer to pry two gems like that, so maybe if Alderson switched the bait from Dickey to Jon Niese he could land these two trophy pieces?

Could this be the Mets GM plan? Lure teams with Dickey, ask for a major package in return, get rebuffed and then use Niese as the trade chip?

NEWS: Angel Pagan Re-Ups with Giants for 4 Years $40 mil

VIEW: How Brian Sabean has two World Series rings is astonishing. I guess getting Shane Victorino to the Mets is now out of the question as his asking price has to be the same as Pagan’s if not more. FUCK!

NEWS: Jordany Valdespin Suspended For Insubordination From Winter League Team

VIEW: Enough is enough with Valde, he’s not talented enough to get away with acting like an asshole. I’m sure any deal that Mets make this off season Valdespin will be a throw in and if no other team wants him he’ll be assigned to Las Vegas or better yet given his release. If I know anything about how Alderson runs his team it’s he doesn’t put up with guys like Valdespin.

NY METS NEWS AND VIEWS

NEWS: Terry Collins Upset That Ruben Tejada Is Not In Camp

I am with TC 100 %, don’t give me this “he’s not late” line of horseshit, that’s for losers. You same Mets fans who bitch and moan that Collins has some nerve calling out Tejeda are the same bunch who is spouting the Mets suck mantra. You can’t have it both ways folks.

I’m sure Collins made it known to Tejeda that it would be in his best interest to get to camp early to work with Daniel Murphy his news keystone partner.  I don’t want to hear visa problems as the reason Tejada couldn’t get to camp early, take care of your shit on time Ruben.  No excuses and to all of you comparing Collins to NY Giants coach Tom Coughlin and his insistence that if you’re on time your five minutes late, let’s hope TC gets the same results two championships in four years.

THE DOG SLED EDITION OF METS NEWS AND VIEWS

The only good thing about staying outside and shoveling snow for 4 hours yesterday was the baseball chatter between me and my neighbors. Your back and arms don’t hurt as much when your discussing the Mets and Highlanders starting rotation (there were four of us out there, two Mets fans, two Highlanders fans) the future of Derek Jeter (we all agree he needs to get off shortstop) and what teams announcers are the best (Highlander fans conceded this one early as the only guy the like is Paul O’Neil)    I guess the baseball talk keeps us sane as we look forward to pitchers/catchers in 17 days because I need something as I’m totally SNOWBLIND.

I had quite an interesting encounter this morning near my office. I’m standing on the corner of Thomas St and Church St headed up to Broadway. As I waited for the light to green so I could cross the street, a guy standing next to me is staring at me. Just as I was ready to ask him “What the fuck are you looking at” the guy says “oh a Mets fan uh”? Now I’m wearing a Mets jacket with my classic blue Mets cap so Sherlock Fucking Holmes has cracked the case.  As we both cross the street, this little hobit then says “You know I’m a season ticket holder. Maybe we can exchange e-mails and if you ever need tickets…..”? I turn to this cretin and tell him “Chief, the only way you’d get my e-mail address is if you morphed into Christina Hendricks in the next three seconds”   Of course he didn’t. What a douchebag.

Time for News and Views:

NEWS: Freddy Skill Sets wants Omar Minaya to stay with Mets

View:  What’s the fucking point? The biggest weakness the Skill Sets have is they never can say good-bye (no, no, no, now)Nothing against Minaya but for Christ sake man, you got canned as GM and all of your staff was given pink slips have some pride and walk away. Look if Freddy wants to give you a desk and a phone so you can stay in contact with folks around MLB to find employment that’s fine but com’on Freddy, I know breakin’ up is hard to do but stop making Omar you’re Calendar Girl. I don’t want to think of you as the King of Clowns.

NEWS: Freddy Skill Sets says he’ll cut your ass if you can’t play.

View: Now that’s how to walk like a man

NEWS: Mets Farm System is Rank

Views:  Seems the folks who are expert in minor league baseball feel the Mets crop of farm hands is not of fine vintage. It seems Sandy Alderson is of the same mind set as he has spoken about rebuilding the minor league system and doing so in a uniform fashion.  Last year we saw the near destruction of RHP Jenry Mejia but the mission failed so it seems, but Mejia is ranked #1 or #2 in just about every ranking survey (great job by Ed Ryan of Mets Fever by the way of posting the links) with Wilmer Flores right behind him and RHP Matt Harvey right behind them.  The Mets have two picks in the Top 50 picks of the 2011 First Draft, hopefully Sandy Alderson will not stir this draft with a slotted spoon.

NEWS: Strawberry to run in the Race To The Top of The Empire State Building

VIEW: Outstanding!  I hope he wears Mets gear while running.

FRIDAY NEWS AND VIEWS

NEWS: CHARLIE SAMULES BET ON BASEBALL, STOLE FROM METS

And we thought it was just Ollie Perez as the biggest thief with the Mets. I have to say the Samuels revelations are SHOCKING!!! This is a guy who is revered throughout all facets of the Mets organization so I’m sure there are a lot of blank stares after reading the stories on his stealing from the club.  Maybe it was the fact that the Mets paid him a mere $80K a year to run the clubhouse and be the traveling secretary (Where have you gone Lou Niss?) that led Charlie to a life of larceny. Give Samuels some credit here; it seems he reported all his ill gotten gains as his tax returns show an income of $600K. By the way the NY Daily News “investigative team” was all over this story and of course they had to add in the fact that no PED use were involved here because the Daily News “I-Team” is a one trick pony when in comes to in depth investigation on shit no one cares about. If the Daily News would put some of that investigative work into things that actual effect New Yorkers, like the thieving fucks at the MTA and the  Circus of Assholes a/ka the State Senate in Albany, their rag would be worth plopping down four-bits for.

NEWS: METS PICK UP JOSE REYES OPTION FOR 2011

What to do with Jose Reyes? This will be one of the biggest decisions of the Sandy Alderson regime. The part about taking the option for next season at $11 Mil was easy, what will be difficult is whether or not to sign Jose to a long term deal before the start the season. As Mets fans we are in uncharted waters as Alderson and his staff have no allegiance to any of the players in this organization so I’m sure the Mets will look at Reyes analytically to determine if he’s worth the years and money to keep him a Met.

NEWS: METS MANAGERIAL INTERVIEWS

Sandy Alderson met with Dave Jauss and Bob Melvin yesterday to interview them for the opening of Mets manager. This weekend will be the biggie as The People’s Choice, Wally Backman, The Dark Horse, Chip Hale and Organizational Man; Terry Collins will present their resumes to the GM. Even if neither of these gents gets the job, all three could still remain in the organization and maybe that will be what the bulk of the interview will entail. Ken Oberkfell and Tim Tuefel will get the call next week and that should end the in house candidates and after the open competitive part of the process is done, my guess is by the time you’re biting into your Thanksgiving Day drumstick, a new Mets manager will be in place.

As I was writing this I thought who in fact is the front runner and to tell you the truth I have no idea. If I had to rank them in order my guess would be:

Chip Hale

Bob Melvin

Ken Oberkfell

Wally Backman

Clint Hurdle

As I say I’m just guessing.

NEWS: ALDERSON ASKS PADRES PERMISSION TO SPEAK TO PAUL DePODESTA TO JOIN METS FRONT OFFICE

It’s hard to believe but the Mets are one hire away from becoming hip n happinin’. What’s next buying office space in Williamsburg?

NEWS: R.I.P. SPARKY ANDERSON

Hard not to feel sad hearing the news of the passing of Sparky Anderson who was the true definition of a “baseball man” Having watched his Big Red Machine come into Shea Stadium and smack the Mets around in the 1970’s I grew to admire Anderson and his Reds, same with the Tigers and the “Bless You Boys” of 1984. Anderson earned the name Captain Hook by utilizing his bullpen on an every game basis with great relievers like Clay Carroll, Will McEnaney and Rawley Eastwick and the way he’d jump out of the dugout clutching his right or left arm was pure show biz.

METS NEWS AND SOME VIEWS

NEWS: LIVAN HERNANDEZ NAMED AS 5TH STARTER

VIEWS: Who’d a thunk it? Wasn’t this supposed to be a competition between Tim Redding and Jon Niese? Redding in my opinion is being held back more for conditioning reasons and I guess that Omar feels Niese needs more work. How much better is Livan over Niese? When the name Livan Hernandez is brought up the first words out of the Mets mouths is “he’s an innings eater” which is the equivalent as the blind date that has “a great personality” As long as Livan is the 5th starter and not the 4th or God forbid 3rd, the Mets will be okay.  What is not talked about enough is the lack of depth in starting pitching if the Mets lose two or more starters to injury. That’s why Dillon Gee got the start the other day as he has leaped over Nelson Figueroa, Brandon Knight and Tony Armas on the depth chart. Bradley Holt is above those slugs as well.

NEWS: GOOD OLLIE SHOWED UP LAST NIGHT IN ST. LONESOME

VIEWS: Get used to it. Some things can’t be explained. Trying to figure out which OP will show up at any time is like trying to understand how Keith Richards is still draws breaths.

NEWS: MURPHY WILL BAT IN THE 2 HOLE

VIEWS: The only guy I know who would disagree with this is Willie Randolph. (let that be the last Willie Randolph mention) Sure Gimp is a most suited for the either of the first two spots in the lineup but the fact is Murphy is too good to bat in the bottom third of the lineup so Gimp has to take a spot in the 8 hole. Does Castillo mind batting 8th? Who cares?

NEWS: METS SIGN KEN TAKAHASHI

VIEWS: The Mets were rumored early in the off season to have interest in Takahashi who signed with the Blue Jays but was released. Takahashi will join the LOGGY’s On Parade in Buffalo with Casey Fossum, Adam Bostick, Jon Switzer and Heribert Ruelas. You can be sure one of this group will be called up the first time the Mets and Phillies get together.

NEWS: JOHAN SANTANA DOES A MEAN JAY HOROWITZ IMPERSONATION

VIEWS: Great job by Zoe Rice to get this clip of Kevin Burkhardt interviewing Johan Santana and Santana doing his impression of Jay Horowitz. I think it’s safe to say that Santana is enjoying being a Met.

NEWS: TOM SEAVER AND MIKE PIAZZA TO THROW OUT THE FIRST PITCH AT $ITI FIELD

VIEWS: Seaver is The FRANCHISE and Piazza played a huge role in the revival of the  franchise but where is the love for Ed Kranepool? The man still holds or is in the top 10 in all of the Mets lifetime offensive records, he’s an original Met not only did he play at Shea but the Polo Grounds as well why isn’t he involved in this piece of history? I know this will piss off all you PIAZZA 31 Groupies out there but Ed Kranepool is much more a Met than Mike ever was. It should Steady Eddie on the mound with Seaver and for that matter Keith Hernandez and Jerry Koosman should be there as well before Piazza, oh and no way does number 31 get retired before 7 17 or 36.
